View Full Version : Butlers Going MIA

I'm not sure if this is actually a bug or if I borked my chance of ever having a butler again with this family but anyhoots...

Here's the deal. I moved my simmies into the house of their dreams and got them a butler. I had three sims. A guy, his sister, and his fiance. His sister ended up getting it on with the butler and eventually married him. After that he became a part of the family and was, obviously, no longer a butler. I moved the ex-butler and my dudes sister out to their own home and continued to play the other two.

After a while I hired another butler. She arrived as planned and made good friends with my female sim. Problem is one day she just wasn't there. I paused the game and searched all over the house. Then thought... ok maybe butlers run errands or something. A few days go by still no butler. When I called her it said, I'm at work right now and don't know when I'll be done. I was like really, I thought you worked for me and you certainly aren't at my house. So I picked resetsim which kinda worked because it "fired" her as my butler. I invited her over again and she arrived as an everyday non-butler type simmie. I realized I hadn't set her bed so I thought ok maybe that's what I did wrong.

I hired another butler and made a point of setting her bed. For several sim days everything was fine with her. Then all of a sudden she went MIA too. Here is, I think, the weirdest thing. A day or so after she went MIA I wanted my sims to woohoo so I sent them to relax on their bed. They started doing that thing sims do when something is in their way. In the little thought bubbles they had the blocked footprints with an crossed out face of their butler above them. So for some reason the invisible butler was evilly preventing them from getting their woohooing on (or sleeping for that matter). I replaced the bed and that fixed the bed being unusable issue. Still no butler though.

I hope that made sense. I just wanted to be sure I covered the problem entirely and addressed possible causes.

For generic game related issues, please see this FAQ:

Game Help:Sims 3 Game Problem

Follow the guide above to remove ALL Custom Content, delete the cache files, and test your game. DONT SAVE the game while testing. This will either solve the issue or rule out CC as the cause. Is this the only game you have played/tested? If so, try a new game and see if the issue occurs in all games or just the current one.

:faceslap: I can't believe I didn't think to test it in a new game. I suppose that would solve the question of rather or not I borked it with that family or it is a general game bug.

I did take out the few custom contents I have and it had no effect at all. Still no butlers. Although when I start the new game I'll test both with and without CC again. I don't think the CC is the issue though.
