View Full Version : I need help with the anims in my cloned object, please

Hello, I have successfully cloned and remeshed/retextured the silly looking pineapple punch barrel under party supplies. I'm trying to make it more Medieval friendly! Anyway, upon putting it into the game, it looks good and the sims are drawn to it and use it quite nicely, the problem arises with the actual animations of the silly thing! When they 'pump' the handle, the handle goes thru their hand, when they go to pick up the nozzle, they go thru the motions but the nozzle just hangs there!? I made a point of NOT changing the handle/nozzle contraption in the mesh hoping to avoid this problem!!! :rolleyes: The only thing that I did do to this thing was extend the base of it so that it would 'attach' to the spiket on the barrel.

Another thing is that bright red plastic cup! I remeshed these (the ones stacked on the ground as well as the morphs) to look like a pewter tankard/mug, and you can see them sitting there around the barrel, but when the sim reaches for a cup, it's the silly red cup!!! And where is the red coming from considering there is ABSOLUTELY no red on the TXTRs?!?!?

I know it's just a picture, but you can kinda get a feel for what I'm talking about here (http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/9519/sims2sc2010110208021438.png). You can see the pump doesn't move with his hand and he's holding a red cup. You can also see the tankards I made and was hoping to see in his hand! ;)

I don't understand all the computer jargon and I'm still kinda new at this. But I am pretty good and reading and following tutorials!!! :D

I'm still waiting for some help here. Does ANYBODY know what I might need to do to fix the anims so that this would work properly?!?

I've attached the actual file so that you smarter-types could maybe take a look at it and let me know what you think! ;)

Are you using Milkshape to mesh, or some other tool? Because it's an animated mesh, some tools will cause meshes to lose the ability to animate.

Yes, I am using Milkshape. The sim animations are there, the sim will interact and go thru the motions, it's just that the object anims aren't. Does that make sense?

Okay, I just took a look at that package, and unfortunately it seems to be using a morph animation rather than a joint animation. This is quite a pain to fix, and I'm not entirely sure what is involved. It should be pretty close to the way body morphs are handled, so maybe someone with body meshing experience can chime in?

Regarding the cup, you also need to clone the cup that is being generated, put in your cup mesh, and give the new cup a new GUID. Then you just need to substitute that GUID into the "Event - Get Drink" line. There are some instructions for something similar here:

Thank you Echo! I followed your tutorial - kinda! I opened the objects.package like you said and I found an Accessory_KegCup that I can only assume is the one I need, but upon opening the party barrel (the games - not mine) the number referenced under Get Drink is different than the one I found in the objects.package. Is there any way to backwards reference...find the correct object via the GUID?

Another thing, How do I replace the object when I do find it?

EDIT: I just tried it again, I was looking for it early this morning the 1st time, but this time instead of going to my last EP (which I have all of them), I knew this came from University so I checked there this time. And the GUID is the same as the referenced one in the Barrel. In Plug-in view, I only have the Object Data info, how do I get to the gmdc? To change it?

As far as the morphs, I think those are only for the level of juice in the cup: full, half and empty. But I could be wrong, I'm new to all of this! :D

Anyway, thank you for helping me get this far...but I'm still a looooong way off! How do I find the gmdc?

I have successfully gotten the anims working! YEAH!!! Stupid me!!! I forgot to assign the joints!!! <DUH!!!>

Now, I just need this silly cup! I have found the correct one under objects.package, where your tutorial said to look, but I can't find it in Object Workshop! There's a whole bunch of 'Accessory' items, but the 'Accessory - KegCup' isn't listed. ??? How/where do I get this cup so that I can clone it and change it to go with my party barrel?

Frustrated!!!
