View Full Version : How to Erase Some of a Mesh?

Alright well i have seen around town that people make interesting shapes out of planes (flat shapes in milkshape). Like in some hairs I see there are curls that are flat but they have it like drawn into a curl look (if you know what I mean). So I thought that they would just use a plane, then erase some of it using the alpha file but maybe I am wrong? I tried to put a plane on a girls shoulder and shape the plane into a flower by making the edges black but it didn't turn out right :( I attatched a photo of what it turned out like.
Is there anything different i need to do or was i completely wrong with my idea and they do something else? Anyway if you dont understand what im saying i can include some pics of what im talking about.
Thanks and PLEASE HELP ME i really want to make this dress haha

What you want to do is a perfectly acceptable idea. You can indeed add parts that are cut out with alphas.
However, you can't have those parts combined with the "body" part of the mesh. When the "body" part uses alpha cutouts, it cuts out to skin - that's why the edges of your flower are grey. Any parts you add like this will also alpha cutout to skin, because the "body" part expects that any alpha cutouts will be used to create arms, legs, neck, etc., - as you can see on your sim there with her arms, legs, and neck grey and exposed.
What you need to do is use a mesh as a base that has multiple parts. The "hula outfit" is a good one for this as its parts are already setup for alpha cutouts. Then you replace its "body" and alpha group(s) with yours, and use your modified textures.

Oh thankyou! that sounds good! I know this is probably a dumb queastion but to replace its body do i have to delete the body group, then import my body into it and then rename it body or do i have to re assign like every arm, leg ect. on my new body?

Import your body and rename it, and then delete the original body. You don't have to reassign anything.

:S I did exactly what you say but when I select some of the body and go into the bone tool, no bone comes up
