I currently have my files in C:/Program Files/EA Games/The Sims2 Mansion and Garden Stuff

and downloads in H:/Documents and Settings/Administrator/My Documets/EA Games/The Sims 2

I want to move both of these directories to an external Hard Drive, J. How do I let the program file know where the Downloads are ??

With Win7 you can move your Documents folder into another drive through Folder Properties - Location.

You can move your documents folder to another location with any OS. Game_Help:Change_Location_of_Downloads_Folder It is not recommended to try and move your game install though as it has registry entries that in all likelihood would not be manually fixed properly. If you want to move your game install you will need to uninstall it and then reinstall it to the external drive.

I have two internal drives and one external. One of the internal is partioned but total free space internal is 72 GB. The external is one TB so lots of room. Thanks for the info and I'll let you know how it works our. So far I've copied all my files to the external but haven't erased anything yet.

Be careful not to allow the external's drive letter to change, or Windows will freak out and lose your Documents.

Just map it to a particular drive letter.
