View Full Version : May Be A Stupid Question: But Is It Worth Getting LN?

I know that it's a dumb question and I'll get mixed answers but I've read a lot of good and got excited. Then I read all of the horror stories of the glitches and crashes and my hope level dropped dramatically.

So, is it really worth dishing out the $30/40 to get Late Night? Considering the good and bad?

In my opinion, Late Night is worth buying. All the new content is super cool, I couldn't imagine playing my game without it.

You should have pre-ordered it from GAME, I got it for £19.99 - the original price before it went up to £24.99, then up to £29.99. I saved £10 by being a silly fan! ahahaaa..

But yeah, I think it's great.. I can't imagine not having clubs and extra instruments now. But it's a matter of opinion. Get it, then if you don't like it give it to a friend or go to one of those exchange stores. I swear you used to be able to rent games from places, or is that just for console games? Idk..

@Brillo Console games don't get Installed, now, do they? :D They quickly stopped hiring PC games after reports of Codes not working after authentication, etc. Making the copies useless and with a No-CD crack, people were able to get away without barely paying. [Though, TBH, now with the advances of the Internet world we live in, people download the things)

@OP I'm resisting urges to buy the game, in hopes that the price will soon flop with a new Expansion, or Sale, and I can get a good deal! I don't play Sims 3 much, though I used to pre-order almost all my Sims 2 EPs.. *Sniff*

Thank you all for your opinions but what are the main errors/glitches in the game that may annoy me? Just so I can consider the last few details before dishing out my money

Glitches i have encountered that mods have not caused:

[This is a copy+paste from my support thread, Which still needs an answer by EA]

- Half way through completing a command, The Sim Stops doing it. For example, Walking from the lounge in the flat, To the bed... The sim walks half way, and then the command goes off.
- After a command is been completed, The sim does the opposite. For example, I tell my 4 sims in the active househould to sit down in the lounge. They sit. INSTANTLY after they sit down, They stand up again.
- I go somewhere, Then the sim starts going home, Yet I told the sim not to go home or to do relative commands.
- I have used cheats to edit the lobby/outside of the flat. When I go to my flats lounge or do something on the ground floor/lobby, I GET KICKED OUT FROM MY OWN FLAT! Yep! I have to teleport to the bed. How the hell am I kicked out the flat and not allowed in to morning?
- I go into someones house with a gate. When its late and my sims leave, and all four leave the same time, Some get left behind tapping their feet. Once they stop and try to leave, The gate wont open. I have to teleport them using the testingcheatsenabledtrue to outside that house!

Maybe I can explain the first 3...

1- Does your sim have the absent minded trait? If so then that will happen sometimes.. OR have they been distracted by a sim entering the room or something?
2- Have they been distracted by a new object, sim or creature entering the room. Or a ghost passing by?
3- Are the moods low and free will on? I've noticed that happends to me...

Definitely buy it! It's so worth it.

Definitely get it, it's just as essential as Nightlife was for TS2 IMO. On the flipside I'll admit that LN is the buggiest EP, although it's more poor design than game-breaking glitches. Here's some things that annoy me:

-Hardly any of the new world objects are available to place in edit town, though they are in CAW.
-Food trucks are only available in "city" type worlds. You can download a mod that enables it in any hood but it won't move from its parking spot.
-The new fish don't show up when you put them in the HELS fish tank. They only show in the fish bowl.
-The HELS electric guitar isn't available on community lots but a mod on this site thankfully fixes this problem.
-The only way you can have pigeons walking around in your own neighborhoods is by using the fog emitter (see my thread for instructions (http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=424256))
-Apparently playing with story progression on can eventually turn every sim into a vampire. I play with it off so I'm not 100% sure.
-Elevators can cause major routing problems in high rises.
-Bridgeport is not very flexible. There isn't a lot of room to change things. You're either going to like it or hate it.
-There aren't many ways to become a celebrity aside from talking to one.

Even with those annoyances I'm glad I bought it. We should have had hot tubs, groups, clubbing, stage buliding and pianos long ago. I'm glad we can have famous sims as it adds a sense of social class to the game. As much as I like SimBots, vampires are the most fun supernatural creature to play as in TS3 so far. The new CAS/Buy/Build/Map View music is actually really good, not the slightest bit annoying. All the new CAS stuff is amazing too, I no longer need to download formal dresses and the guys finally have decent clothing. Apartments are great too even if for just the great view. I can't imagine going back to a pre-LN game. :)

Bridgeport looks stunning, the atmosphere is amazing with the sights, sounds and the sky that never looks exactly the same.. Bridgeport it very different and new in comparison to previous neighborhoods/worlds, and there is A LOT to explore.
The apartments offer a new and different way of living, the new objects are useful and great looking, and sims can do more smaller jobs, like work as a bartender or musician.. And the vampires! They look pretty neat with the gleaming eyes and cool running effect.

As for annoying stuff in gameplay: for example if your sim is really famous, the paparazzi will RUN after you EVERYWHERE. And I mean literally everywhere.. Sometimes they even come to your apartment, just march in and start taking pictures.
Also the elevators.. It tends to take forever to get into elevator when there are other sims trying to get in it too. The game just seem to have a lot of difficulty with sims queuing into the elevator.

Using LN with 1.17 is enjoyable, Arisuka and Captain THPS4 noted all the major things. Though the vampires live a really long time and I have yet gone through an entire vampire sim's lifetime if they were bitten as a YA.

Since you are already getting LN anyway, I'll spare you my long lost of grievances :P - no actually I would recommend getting it anyway.

Just a few warnings:
- If you have WA, base camps count as public spaces. So if your Sims woohoo there (like in a hotel bed) with any paparazzi around they'll get bad press for it which gives them a major negative moodlet for three days. Usually there are ways to get rid of that, but in the travel locations the necessary rabbitholes are missing, so they'll probably have to live with the bad moodlet for much of the vacation.
- Never tell your butler to cook! Once you do it, he/she will regularly cook meals which force an action to eat into the action queues of all Sims on the lot. You can cancel it, but it is still annoying. And I haven't found a way to get rid of that annoyance.
- Build a second set of elevators in all high-rise buildings you plan to visit a lot. Sims tend to get stuck waiting for the elevators, and with a second set, your active Sim will at least be able to circumvent that waiting queue. Sometimes the elevators still get 'stuck', i.e. they are no longer usable altogether. The only thing I know that helps then is to enter build/buy-mode of that building which resets all Sims, including whoever was blocking the elevators.

Still, it's a fun Ep -enjoy yourself :D

I'm also thinking about getting Late Night, but my mom won't allow me cuz she thinks it's not age-appropriate. (I'm 13.) She thinks so because she saw the pics on the cover art of the bartender flipping drinks and the couple sitting together in the hot tub, and cuz of the name ("What do they do, late at night?"). She also asks me why I want to buy a game about clubbing and bars, even if I said I wouldn't do that in real life. I also mentioned that I want to get it for the instruments, but she doesn't approve of some of the other features (i.e. getting drinks at a bar, dance on a surface, etc.) So she doesn't want me to buy it. Any suggestions, please?

The drinks in bars don't really get them drunk - it's a "sugar rush" and while they -can- dance on tables, your sim has to have had a drink or be a party animal to do so. Mostly they just socialize, get snacks, play foosball or darts, etc. - it's pretty tame. Couples can sit together (and woohoo) in the hot tub, but they don't -have- to.

There's also a lot of fun things that aren't related to the clubs and whatnot - high rise apartments (or regular apartments), a cool big city neighborhood, rather silly cartoonish vampires (who don't have to feed off of other sims at all using blood fruit/snacks), and celebrities.

Unless you have the Moodlet Manager from the Lifetime Rewards. You can easily "cure" your Sim of Bad Moodlets with it. ;)

Those high-end rewards always feel like cheating to me, but I suppose in this case it may be worth making an exception.
That still won't get rid of the paparazzi in my hotel room, though (although I suppose I can send them aways with resetSim?).

-Apparently playing with story progression on can eventually turn every sim into a vampire. I play with it off so I'm not 100% sure.

Wait, what? really? I don't like this at all.

Sure they do. I've never had any prolems with the fishes. I currently have 8 HELS aquariums, each full of different species. And no, I didn't download any fix for them. :)

I think that's totally exaggerated. I've had NL since release day and I haven't noticed this happening. I don't see that many vamps at the club and none of the members of the families I play(except for one person that I wanted to become one) have become vampires.
