Screaming Mustard

Hello everyone.
I'm having a little bit of a problem with the textures of a few objects I have recently made. I'm a noob to meshing, but I followed a tutorial and everything seemed to work out really well.
So after saving my meshes, I went to test them out in game. The meshes themselves work perfectly fine and there isn't a problem with them, but the textures aren't the right colour at all. They all look terribly dark as they were in a shadow.
Here's some pictures to illustrate my point.
This is the texture I used for the object (it's a table).

And this is how it looks in SimPE. Perfectly fine, nothing wrong with the textures at all.

But then ingame it looks darker than it should. This is an opened room so it's not closed off by walls all around. The game allows sunlight to lighten the other objects, but not the table for some reason.

In a closed room without windows or lighting, the texture seems to darken slightly which it should.

And when there is lighting in the room, the table lightens slightly but still no way near the right texture colour it should be.

I made some other tables too just to see if it was a problem only with that particular file, but all the tables show the same darkened apparence which is so much darker than the original texture I used.

What is going on? Does anyone know how to fix this?
All advice would be great!
