View Full Version : Spawners spontaneously multiplying - has a fix been found?

I just found out today that apparently there's a bug that causes an erruption of spawners on lots that have been uploaded with them. I found [url=http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=431270]this old thread[/i] about it and was wondering if there's been any progress, has anybody found a fix to stop it happenning?

RoseCity posted this in another thread that might help once it's already happened but I'd like to prevent it from happening on my lots:I had that happen to me with a downloaded lot that I placed in Barnacle Bay - every time I turned it, it doubled the spawners. I didn't notice it until there were insects crawling everywhere. It was fixed when I deleted the excess spawners and caught the insects that were already spawned.

Right now I'm thinking I might have to re-package and upload all my lots without spawners :(

PS I did play test them but didn't come across this problem....though I don't think I picked them up and rotated them :/

I've had trouble once with this. My quick fire solution was to try and delete the replicates that appeared and that has seemed to have solved it for me.

If they keep reproducing I'm not sure what to do as I've not come across that glitch/problem, sorry :S

P.S. I've uploaded and downloaded lots with spawners in and not once had a complaint about or experienced this from other peoples lots, I've got no idea as to the "trigger" to start replicating spawners but I don't think you need to worry and re-upload all your lots :)

I just tried with the lot in question. Initially it has 3 spawners, 1 spider, 1 termite and 1 vampire gem. Placed it, checked, 3 spawners. Picked it up rotated it by 45 degrees, checked, 6 spawners. Picked it up, rotated it, checked, forgot to count, but must have been 9 or 12.
But anyway, it seems that as soon as you pick up a lot the initial spawners will sort of sink into the lot itself, because the location of three of them remained unchanged by rotation, while the copies rotate with the lot.
This would then also explain why removing a junk yard lot will not delete the junk spawners because they are duplicated during deletion. One set goes with the lot but the other set remains in place.
Now I wonder whether the same is valid for fish spawners, because this would mean that removing a lot with a fish pond would leave some fish jumping underground.

BTW, wasn't there also a patch once that tried to fix the reverse issue where moving a lot with spawners would delete these?

And I do think that this is quite relevant for builders because if you build a lot with spawners and then build another house on the same lot later the spawners might still be there and carry over to your next house without you noticing, because just like with junkyard spawners, these are not necessarily visible with buydebug on. They are underground and resurface only again when you build a basement with the basement tool.

I have a similar problem, however, I do not remember rotating the lot EVER. Could this also happen by saving a lot to the bin and placing it again? :( Or could it have been caused the Generations patch?

I have TONS of water bugs on my lot now, though I have probably deleted 1000 spawner boxes by now - they are all on top of each other, and the spawning area circle is white, not see-through as a single box' one, which means there must still be loads and LOADS of layers and therefore bugs. :( They are creeping me out!!

I seriously do not want to rebuild the whole lot...
