What trait, or traits, that you use the most for your non-legacy sims (legacy sims must random, right???)?
For me, I use brave and light-sleeper the most, cause too many burglar in my neighborhood. I don't know why, but for 2 weeks, there must be at least one burglar attack my household.
How 'bout you?

Edit : And now, with the least used traits by you too...
For me, I (until now) never use clumsy trait. And no hidden traits for me, yet. So, how about your sims?

My favorites are Green Thumb and Natural Cook because they have so much use, especially when used together. The Natural Cook trait lets you have an edge on cooking so when a sim moves in they are less likely to burn their food or something silly like that. I like the Green Thumb trait because it helps the sim be self sufficient and because I actually like the idea of putting something in the ground, nurturing it and watching it grow, while in turn earning a profit/food when the plant bares fruit. One of the reasons I love Harvest Moon so much

I always click random.

I don't really have a favorite trait, because what I wish for my Sims depends on who I want them to be. I think this question would have been easier if you have asked un-favorite traits, then I could have answered

- hates the outdoors
- couch potato

I like my Sims to be active outdoorsy people, so when I get one of the two I dislike, it will take some effort from me. I associate the couch potato trait to laziness, so it makes having an active sim very hard. But, there are exceptions to all rules. One of my favorite guys has the couch potato trait, but I still love playing him, even thou at the beginning I didn't like him having it because I was planning on him being super active. Thankfully he's social so he's still very active socially, always visiting people or having people over.

I really like gardening in TS3, so having any trait that makes gardening part of the sims life, i guess I could call them favorite traits.
- Loves the outdoors
- green thumb
- vegeterian
- eco friendly
- natural cook

Most of my Sims end up being Disciplined, Flirty, Clumsy Outdoor Lovers. I don't actually know why precisely but there are some advantages.
Disciplined - gain fun while meditating, sparring or whatever
Flirty - the only one being able to massage a pregnant partner without going all the way to irresistible
Loves the Outdoors - I don't, so that's probably why my Sims do
Clumsy - I just like the animation

I also tend to give them the Pyromaniac hidden trait and do something that gives them the sneak option. The advantages are:
Pyromaniac - eating a flame fruit fills hunger *and* energy motive (but that might be awesomemod)
Burglar, Private Eye - I play a with ghosts a lot and with that trait these can enter uninhabited houses.

On a reverse note I try to avoid those traits that give Sims horrible idle animations and autonomous behaviour, like Insane, Computer Whizz, and everything along the bad-tempered line of traits. And no Slobs, please.

Eco Friendly is easily my favourite trait so far. I'm not a hippie by any means, but I do care about the environment so I'm glad my sims can too. Plus the trait also makes the sims' world feel more culturally relevant and realistic.

Brave is good too. Great defense against burglars as said already, and good for adventuring too.

Dramatic is a funny trait just for the faking passing out interaction.

Insane trait is my favorite. Neurotic is next. Right now I am playing a family of insane geniuses. They did make one of the kids neurotic, whom turns out to be quite flirty, but also a genius. I do go for a natural cook with a green thumb. Shy sims are not quite shy, they just get negative moodlets when around strangers, but I do plan on playing a insane, neurotic, shy, loner that's a natural cook. Wonder how that will turn out?

Good sense of humour : I like people with a good sense of humour...so my little sims need them too :heyhey:

Artistic : I like to draw in rl so I love to see sims painting :)

Charismatic : not a lot to say, it's just a very usefull trait

Family-Oriented : usefull with legacy sims

Eco-Friendly : it's a great trait, I totally agree with Captain THPS4.

I always click random.

Same here.

I love the random button.

I click it again and again and again and again and again and then it loses its purpose and again and again and again.

>.x

Right now I'm on my second generation of a family. I really haven't, like, planned anything out for her from the start, so it was really hard to choose. I have her as friendly, neurotic, charismatic, hopeless romantic, and eccentric. . . but none of them were really chosen for a reason. I eventually want to create a simbot, but I don't know if that'll be this generation, so I just threw that in there. >.x

My favorite is probably neurotic, 'cause it's so interesting. I'd like insane if it didn't do the clothing-switching, because my insane always seem to change into formal.

I tend to use the same traits over and over again no matter how hard I try to be more creative. My favourites are:

- Artistic. A handy trait for a sim who isn't going to get a regular job. I like sims who are painters and artists plus it's nice to decorate the house with their paintings.
- Green Thumbed. I don't even own a garden in real life, but for some reason I enjoy Sim-gardening. It's fun and very profitable.
- Hopeless Romantic. Some of these animations are so cute plus it makes writing romantic novels easier.
- Bookworm. Probably my most used trait. I used to dream about becoming an author and now my Sims can live that dream. :D Plus it's fun to choose silly names for their books.
- Neurotic. I like to give my Simmies something from me. The freak out -animation is funny because I often feel like doing just that. :p
- Snob. Self-centered and arrogant people aren't fun in real life, but when it comes to Sims, I find them hilarious. Maybe because it's sometimes therapeutic to play a total ego-maniac?

Flirty - the only one being able to massage a pregnant partner without going all the way to irresistible

Actually, massage comes under 'alluring' not irresistible. But I agree, it's a pain to have to go through a lot of hugging and flirting to get to a massage for your pregnant spouse.

The traits I choose depend on the Sim I'm playing. The legacy I'm playing has you roll to determine career and whether the heir is to remain single or get married, so I pick traits to fit my roll. And more and more I'm finding myself hitting the random button, especially for my spares. Because I've gotten tired over the years of playing all my Sims with the same favorite traits over and over. Trying traits I never used has opened more possibilities for me.
Traits I never use are Slob and Never Nude.

Because I'm playing Los Aneigos, loads of the sims already in the neighbourhood have Snob, Flirty, Virtuoso, Charismatic and Star Quality.
My favourite traits, though, are:
Neurotic
Inappropriate
Mean Spirited
Hot-Head
Grumpy
Klepto.
Slob
No Sense of Humour..
But I use them quite sparingly, those along with genius.. (I swear half the town were geniuses!! Not everyone is a genius!!)
Sure I could have chosen some useful traits, but they're not as fun to watch or handle.

Most used, probably Friendly for all the NPC bartenders and Athletic for all the NPC bouncers. Ha! I also use Flirty in quite a few simmies so that they'll accept my vamps neck bites.

I love the workaholic trait. It really helps during work when they may not have a huge fun moodlet but I don't want them dipping into the red.

Genius, especially for kids and teens (Get that homework done faster!).
And the family-oriented trait, since I love making big families.

Artistic: I love to draw in real life too.
Green Thumb: I can't have a garden in real life so I live vicariously through my simmies! XD
Neat: I'm a neat person in real life and I love that they get fun from cleaning the house.

The only "negative" trait that I really like is...

Neurotic: I'm not sure why I like this one, but I really like the wishes that come with it and watching my simmie check the stove. (Maybe I am slightly neurotic in real life?)

I have only played built-in sims in Sims 3, so I use whatever traits the game gives me. Having said that, my favourite has to be Eco-Friendly because the buffs make me laugh so much! Childish is amusing too - I love how they get a positive buff from sleeping with a teddy bear!

I also like the extra socials available in Charismatic and Friendly.

Least favourite has to be Over-Emotional - these sims react more strongly to both positive and negative buffs, so it can be really hard to keep them happy. As soon as they're down to one positive buff, their mood plunges way into the red. When on vacation you have to faff about making sure they are Well Rested, have had a Good Meal, cleaned their teeth, have a portable stereo with them so they can listen to music, etc. etc. just to keep their mood up. Very hard work!

Other annoying traits: Can't Stand Art, Hydrophobic, Never Nude and No Sense of Humor. These traits seem to exist solely for roleplaying (making your sim "just like me"!), as they have pretty much no benefit.

My favorite traits usually revolve around artistic and scientific stuff, because in RL my favorite things are of course art and science :) So there's lot of Artistic Sims in my game, and Eccentric has been used a lot recently too. Brave is also a personal favorite.

In terms of bad traits, I really enjoy Kleptomaniac because it's just fun, and Hydrophobic, because if I can't swim neither should my Sims!

Traits I never use: Never Nude, Can't Stand Art, Snob, and Athletic.

im pretty sure that you do have the option to pick a trait for legacy sims if you actually achieved what was necessary to get it.....but if not, screw it, my game, my rules.

my favorite traits tend to be:
-evil
-kleptomaniac
-disciplined
-insane
-bookworm
and hopeless romantic.

evil, because it makes a very easily pleased sim (via ani_'s dexter bear, bwahah)... klepto, because you dont have to really wait for your sims job to take off to live comfortably (and even at work they end up stealing things sometimes to sell, or send back the worthless stuff for a free positive moodlet)... disciplined sims because i just like martial arts :P ooh, went really in depth with that one, didnt i?
insane sims i like because: 1) free social bar refills, talking to yourself. cuts out a lot of menial BS tasks like chatting on the phone or going to the trouble to invite a sim over and MAYBE someone MIGHT be free to visit...frustrating as hell whenever all of them cant, for some stupid reason or another; 2) i get to see every outfit i planned be worn by my sim C: even formal, which i practically never use, and swimsuits.
the bookworm trait i think is pretty self-explanatory, being the total progress junkie that i am. it makes reading skill books, recipes, and books quicker...as well as gives that extra oomph to authors' sales. always a big plus, especially with the "romance" genre.
which leads me to hopeless romantic. i know what you're thinking..."aww, SP does have a heart!"
you're wrong.
i like it because i can circumvent a lot of the relationship BS that sims 3 has incorporated, like your loved one needing to be "warmed up" before you can ask them to go steady/propose/etc (cue eyeroll--no spontaneity makes sims 3 a dull game!). its also ridiculously easy for hopeless romantic sims to obtain and secure high relationship points with other sims.

i think that about does it...

{...}Other annoying traits: Can't Stand Art, Hydrophobic, Never Nude and No Sense of Humor. These traits seem to exist solely for roleplaying (making your sim "just like me"!), as they have pretty much no benefit. There's one interesting thing about No Sense of Humour, though: Sims with this trait have a special social interaction that is called something like "Bore to Death" and any Sim that cares to listen to this will then pass out right on the spot. I learned this when one of the merchants in Egypt had that trait and I constantly found one of my Sims lying on the floor around the cash register, unconscious, for no apparent reason.

Sims with the No Sense of Humour trait also get the Having A Blast moodlet for 15 hours instead of the standard 8. Since that gives a +40 boost, I find it handy at the early weeks of the game when most of 'em will be working long hours and coming home exhausted. But even without this perk, I really enjoy using this trait because it's one of the few social traits that gives a Sim character. It's great watching my Flirty Sim interact with her husband, who has No Sense of Humour; she'll autonomously try to get him in the mood for WooHoo but after a few back and forth flirtations he'll just revert back to sharing trivia or boring her to death.

Other favourite traits:
Flirty
Hopeless Romantic -- fun when combined with Flirty because other Sims seem to be doubly receptive to your Sim's advances! Plus they're fun to watch in a facepalmy sort of way; leave a Flirty Hopeless Romantic on a community lot and he or she will pretty much hit on anything that moves. I once found my married female Sim trying to romance some grandmother in China. :|
Insane
Evil -- somewhat useless but the animations provide an endless source of amusement.
Snob
Neurotic
Childish -- you can even talk to them through the teddy bear! This trait really plays like Insane sometimes. What grown woman will fish in the pool, even if she's "childish"?
Genius
Brave

The last two are the only ones I really use due to their practicality; the rest are just fun traits that I use because I enjoy seeing the animations and interactions that come with them. I dunno, I find that skill levelling is easy enough in this game that I don't really have to use the skill-based traits unless I'm going for a certain persona (e.g. an Artistic, Virtuoso rock star with Star Quality).

I've always been annoyed by not being able to massage pregnant Sims easily without the Flirty trait or lots of flirting. They should have at least made it an option during pregnancy for Family-Oriented Sims.

I never use Never Nude either but I kind of like the slob trait but only if the Sim is a member of a rich family so I can afford a maid to clean up or at least there's someone in the household that I can stick with cleaning up the place.

I don't really have any favorite traits but I do have lots of unfavorites: Unflirty, Hates the Outdoors, Stupid and Hydrophobic (because I personally love the water) are by far my least favorite.

I love Lucky. It makes the random items seem to appear more often, and be worth more when they appear. NO need for a job unless it's a LTW; just run around exploring the neighborhood and picking up anything you find. I also feel as though I've been getting more magical gnomes come back from cutting low quality gems (which would be worth 1000 each instead of 450, except I don't ell them.) and the only collector I ever had trouble finding all 5 metals at the mine with was not lucky.

Daredevil is kind of fun, and handy if you have a sim who is going to be around fires. I gave it to my inventor, and every time he set himself on fire he just ran around screaming (pain, probably) until it burned out. Then he was wound up (with a positive moodlet) for a while after that.

Genius and Bookworm are a wonderful combination for skill building

Technophobe is kind of nice if you want to avoid all those wants for computers, etc. and want a sim who doesn't turn on any tv he sees. If I sent you to your girlfriend's house, I want you talking to your girlfriend, not watching her tv while she is outside talking to the mail carrier. (It also makes sense for some of my faeries.)

I had a lot of fun playing with mooch, and klepto. They aren't ones I would use a lot, but they are nice once in a while.

Over-Emotional Neurotics are another one I would not play often, but are kind of fun once in a while. Neurotic is actually easy to keep happy, especially if you make sure they can get the points for making the bed, washing dishes, cleaning the sink, and checking the stove/sink/fireplace. They get buffs for checking things, and get tranquil every time they freak out.

I don't know all the ones that I haven't gotten to yet... I've never been interested in clumsy, family oriented, or can't stand art, and I haven't gotten to Perceptive, Insane, snob, and a few others. (In a way I dislike not being able to give each sim every trait I want to add, but in another way I think it's probably a good idea.)
