Alma Mater?

I noticed some sims have the alma mater thing.. what is it? Coz one of my sims daughters who moved out has this, and I didn't know what it was. She didn't go to boarding school..

All the YA-A & elder sims have an alma mater. Even though they didn't go to boarding school, they still went to a school and therefore have an alma mater.

Thats weird as my daughter who is an adult doesn't have one.. very confusing.

I asked a Sim- pre made in the town, and he said his alma mater was the nearby school, not one of the boarding schools. Therefore, all pre-made sims and sims who are not sent to boarding school will say that the nearby school is their alma mater.

Really? I asked several sims, and some said different places. Nancy Landgraab said she went to the snobby school.
EDIT: I meant to say, all the pre-made sims I asked said that they went to boarding schools.

I only knew what an Alma Mater was through the years of watching American TV. We don't use that phrase in the UK. We say Alumnus of...

It does have a benefit in making friends if the sims went to the same school. Having them talk about their school makes friends faster.

We say both, 'cause they're technically two different nouns. The person is an alumnus of their alma mater. For example, after I graduate next year, I'll be an alumnus, a member of the alumni. The school I went to is my alma mater.
