Financially Challenged Challenge:

Generation 1: Starving Artist

Creating the Founder:

Traits:
1. Artistic
2. Loner
3. Bookworm
4. Absent-Minded
5. Your Choice
You may want to give him/her that raggedy I-was-up-all-night look. :)

Finding A Home:

Choose the a 60x60 lot. If one isn’t available in the world you’re playing, delete a few smaller lots and then add one in.

Build one room. That’s all he/she gets.

Furnish it with…
1. 1 cheap toilet
2. 1 cheap shower
3. 1 cheap fridge
4. 1 cheap sink OR dishwasher
5. 1 cheap stove
6. 1 cheap dining table
7. 1 cheap bookshelf
8. 1 cheap living chair
9. 1 cheap bed
10. 1 cheap career item (see below).

(By cheap, I mean the cheapest thing that you can buy in that category. Also, keep in mind that every generation will be living on this lot.)

If you can’t afford all of that stuff at first, prioritize and pick what you can afford. Then, once you begin to establish your career, you’ll finish furnishing your house. Also, the lights, windows and doors are up to you.

Careers:
1. Author—Career item is a computer. Choose this as profession if you have Ambitions. Writing books is the ONLY way you can earn money.
2. Painter—Career item is an easel. Choose this as profession if you have Ambitions. Painting is the ONLY way you can earn money.
3. Sculptor (Ambitions only)—Career item is a sculpting set. This is the ONLY way you can earn money.
4. Band (Late Night only)—Career item is a guitar. Form a band, and rise to stardom while barely scraping by financially. This is the ONLY way to earn money. You can’t join the music career.
5. Photographer (WA required)—Career item is a camera. Choose this as profession if you have Ambitions. You can use buydebug to get this. This is the ONLY way to earn money.

Money Rules: (These rules apply to all generations.)
1. The first thing you do with your money is furnishing the house based on the list above.
2. Once your home is furnished, you are allowed to spend your money a bit more freely. You can upgrade your items. However, you can’t skip ahead to that fancy fridge you’ve got your eye on. You have to move up one fridge at a time. This goes for all items, including career items.
3. Once you have the highest quality of the original furnishings, you can add one more room. Since you’re now used to living a life surrounded by fancy things, you cannot add a door to this room until you can furnish it with high-class, expensive things. The room must also give you the “beautifully decorated” moodlet.
4. If for some reason they can’t afford the bills/to do the things in their “rules” section, you must sell items in the house. If you really still can't afford anything, kaching is allowed five times as a last resort. It is not recommended, since cheating is pretty addictive.
5. If you become a celebrity, you CANNOT sell items you get for free or participate in any opportunities that pay you. Skill opportunities that pay are fine.

Starving Artist Rules:
1. Your busy artist must find time to marry and produce at least one heir. (Spouse CANNOT work. Also, it’s recommended that you don’t marry a filthy rich Sim so that the challenge doesn’t fall apart.)
2. He must complete the three skill challenges.
3. Must reach level 10 of painter/photographer/author/sculptor career (Ambitions only)

Generation 2: Spoiled Spender

Traits:
1. Snob
2. Excitable
3. Dramatic
4. Hopeless Romantic
5. Your Choice
Careers:
1. None. This Sim has decided she would rather live off her parents than work like her artistic parent.
Rules:
1. Must keep parents in the house as a YA. He/she needs their money!
2. Once she/he reaches adulthood, kick the parents out. She/he keeps all of their money, but doesn't have working parents to provide a steady income anymore.
3. Once a week, this Sim visits the spa. If you forget one week, go twice the next week.
4. Once a week, visit the Bistro. If you forget, go twice the next week.
5. Once a week, visit the salon and have a stylist makeover. If you forget, go twice the next week. (Ambitions only!)
6. Go to some sort of event (movie, stadium game, etc.) once a week. If you forget, go twice the next week.
7. Visit a club at least twice a week. If you’re in Sunset Valley or a city without clubs, add one in Edit Town. (Late Night only!)
8. If you run out of money once the parents leave, your sim must start selling things in the house. (See Money Rules)
9. Must marry and provide an heir to continue the challenge. (Spouse must not work!)
10. Must befriend at least three celebrities. (LN only!)

Generation 3: General Failure

Traits:
1. Ambitious
2. Commitment Issues
3. Workaholic
4. Unlucky
5. Your Choice
Careers:
1. Any base-game careers. After watching his/her parents struggle with a lack of money, he/she is determined not to let laziness get the best of him/her.
Rules:
1. Choose a career to start with. Progress to level three of the career. Then get your Sim fired/quit. Firing is much more fun, though.
2. Must never be in one career past level 3
3. Must purchase all skill objects for all careers (ex: treadmill for athlete career, telescope AND chess table for doctor career.)
4. If they begin to run out of money/can’t pay bills, sell items in house. (See Money Rules)
5. Follow the money rules about re-furnishing the house if the previous heir sold stuff.
6. Don’t forget to marry! (Spouse cannot work.)
7. If you run out of money and have already sold everything you can, then you can consider marrying (or re-marrying) rich, choosing the really cheap spa options, and giving yourself makeovers. This just makes it easier.

Generation 4: Outdoorsy Sim

Traits:
1. Loves the Outdoors
2. Angler
3. Green Thumb
4. Family Oriented
5. Your Choice
Careers:
1. Angler/Fisherman—Sell all of your fish. If you have Ambitions, choose that profession. This is the ONLY way you can make money.
2. Farmer—Sell all of your vegetables. If you have Ambitions, choose it as a profession. This is the ONLY way you can make money. You can’t sell your fish if you choose to develop that skill too.
Rules:
1. All children must age up well in every stage of childhood.
2. Must complete all gardening/fishing skill challenges.
3. Must reach level 10 of fishing and/or gardening.
4. Must go camping at somewhere off of your home lot once a week. (You can purchase tent under the buydebug menu if you have WA, or a sleeping bag if you have Generations.)
5. Must bring entire family to the park at least twice a week.
6. Must marry and provide an heir. (Spouse cannot work!)

Generation 5: Krazy Kleptomaniac

Traits:
1. Kleptomaniac
2. Evil
3. Snob
4. Flirty
5. Your Choice
Careers:
1. None! Your sim lives off of stealing items and selling them.
Rules:
1. Can only steal three days (or nights) a week.
2. Cannot steal from the same person twice in one week.
3. Must never return items.
4. If your Sim doesn’t manage to pay for the bills from a lack of money, must sell items in the house.
5. Must Woohoo with a different Sim once a week.
6. Your Sim doesn’t have to marry or provide an heir—he/she’s the last generation! If you want to continue, you can start the generations over and have the 6th be starving artist and so on.

Thank you! I hope you enjoy my first challenge!

PS: Sorry it's so long. :report:

I have a question - this sounds very interesting but I'm wondering - do you fail if you get to a point, say in the second generation were no one's earning money and you've sold already sold everything in the house? As in, if there's absolutely no way to fulfill any of your requirements from lack of money? I assume that's total failure - but what if you simply can't fulfill one or two of the requirements? Is that also failure?

Also - when you kick the parents out, how much money do they take with them? Does it depend on where they're kicked out to? Could, conceivably, the challenge end immediately upon the heir turning to adult hood because the parents took most of the money?

(Basically - I think the most challenging bit will be the second generation. Have you play tested it? Is is possible?)

If you can't fulfill the requirements in the 2nd generation, then you are allowed to use kaching a total of five times in the 2nd generation, but only as a last resort. Also, you can choose the really cheap options at the Spa and you can give yourself a makeover rather than a stylist if you don't want to cheat. Also, if you choose, for this generation you could marry rich and use their money. The only catch is that you'd have to use up all of their money so that it still gives this generation a purpose.

The purpose of the 2nd generation is to deplete all of your money. You're free to modify the rules when you're playing if it's too difficult. I'm playing the first generation, and my sim is already doing pretty well financially. I don't want it to stay that way.

The parents don't take any money with them. They're only in the 2nd generation to provide steady income until she becomes and adult.

I hope I helped! :)

EDIT: I'm going to add some of this to the rules. Thank you for bringing it up!

its not too bad my 2nd gen is a teen now and the "starving artist" has the best of everything and almost 100,000 in funds...no cheats by the way...i've got to where i'm not sure what to do with the money. i waited until the 1st gen was an adult before he got married and a kid...so maybe the parents should now be old so the 2nd gen can depleate the money by the time they're adult. i'm going to start spending the money when she's a teen so maybe it would work...i'll let u know, but it's interesting so far...gets me outta the norm so thank you!!

I just started this today and my starving artist sim is married and trying to get pregnant right now.

My only question, and sorry if this was already answered somewhere, but is it okay to accept opportunities that give you money? Because my sim completed an opportunity to give someone 5 paintings and ended up being given about 5000 simoleons. Is it okay to keep the simoleons even though they weren't earned directly by selling the paintings?

Yes, opportunities are okay as long as they are directly related to the Sim's career.

Sorry it took me so long to reply, I was at sleepaway camp. :)
