I have noticed something in the sims, that bothers me and im not sure if a patch will fix it or its just something we have to get on with, but I have noticed that after playing for a long while and many generations have aged etc... you get automatic families move into lots around the city to keep the population going. Thats all well and good, but what I find an issue with is when you visit a friends house and they are like a 5 person family, yet they only have one bed in the house/apartment. I stayed round a friends for a party, the mother and father went to bed, and the kids, teen, toddler and child where all proper kicking off because they were really tired but had no bed to sleep in. Is this something fixable where non playable sims can buy essential needs for basic living comfort?

As far as I know, it's not possible to make sims buy furniture on their own. However, IIRC Awesomemod (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?PHPSESSID=4ff7f3892bf226d7aea9206b2ccb6057&topic=15185.0) provides a different sort of fix for this, in that it only allows families to move into a house if there are enough beds/cribs for each member. You'll simply have to add more beds manually if you want bigger families to move in.

When my sim is visiting neighbors, I simply use the Buy On This Lot/Build On This Lot, and that lot is in buy mode and I purchase the furniture, cribs, toys, guitar, whatever for them. I think this is great because my sim uses his money to do this, so I pretend my sim is a good samaritan helping the hapless townies; also this is a way to use all his excess wealth.

Shim, I do this too, only I write down what my starting funds were so that I can "familyfunds" cheat the money back to me. I guess my Sim isn't as good natured as yours! haha

I guess I do it the old fashion way, I just build more appropriate houses from starter to wealthy family and plop them around the town. I prefer my lots to EA's when my sim go visiting. They always give a good environment if you use the free (buydebug) to low cost decor moodlet and have things to do for fun inside them.
