Hi everyone: I have a question about default replacing method. I've been doing lots of clothing default replacment in many categories &ages using the making a default repl.package method and, I notice the bodyshop loading time is getting longer&longer. Now my question is, when I do that i'm adding more files to download folder just to show maxis clothes in my taste by adding extra GMDC& texture files. Wouldn't it be more file space economicall if I just overwrite the original stuff without making new package? Is that gonna be a problem for the game? If it's ök,then I'm gonna reduce the download folder size& loading time which is perfect. Please tell me if it's ok if you know..cause I don't really understand the fileing system that well. I appereciate your help thanks in advance. :faceslap: :Pint:

It's the extra texture files that are killing your loading times. Notice how the game has smaller files and then an LOD version? Default replacements just replace a little texture with a big one. While technically *you can* overwrite the game files it is not recommended for a couple of different reasons. 1 You cant share your creations because they are stuck glued to your game. 2 If you get another EP or SP there is a high chance of all your work being erased and you will have to do it all over again. 3 Your defaults will not show up in earlier versions when using AnyGame Starter unless you edit them all of your game versions. 4 this is the most deadly reason. If you mess up even the smallest thing, you will have to reinstall the entire EP you were editing, potetially losing Save files or Game data.

A better solution is just to run all your files through the compressorizor and grab yourself a cup of preferred beverage while you wait. When doing testing you can just yank all your downloads out and save time that way.

Thanks Phaenoh: That basically answers my question. So, as I understand it, making a new package is the only solution as I see when using compressprizer does help extrem reduction of the file size of the new package,it seems like one does add some more mb's upon default replacing anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong but, that seem to be the only choice. Thanks.

Its by far the safest choice. You wouldn't believe how many default replacers I have in my game (having practically pioneered the technique for clothing with HP) and even I wouldn't consider editing the game files that way. I am still toying with the idea of permanently editing the catalog placement for stuff, but again, there are big risks.

Also, as a side note. Welcome to Bodyshop Modding. The vast majority of the questions you've been asking are actually modding questions and not meshing, so I've been moving them over to my territory ;)

I'll look better as I'm still in the process of learning. I'm a turtle when it comes to learning sometimes but, once I get the answers,i tend to try harder. Thanks for helping Phaenoh. :turtle: :)
