have 5 friends

I have 5 friends but the have 5 friends aspiration is still there. Do they have to be people outside of the household?

Yes I think they do need to be people outside the family. But everything in my game seems to be a bit messed up at the moment, e.g. it says I have 8/10 friend and then I make one more friend and I achieve the 10 friends want.

No immediate family no one that lives in the house and no one you are romanticly involved with. I have been able to get cousins/aunts uncles to count not grandparents though.
