View Full Version : Creating One Huge Lot in CAW?

I am wondering, with Create a World tool, are we able to put two lots next to each other and create it as one huge area that sims can go to?

I am using a house plan for a huge house and the 64 x 64 lot is way too small. I am wondering if it would be possible to add the lots right next to each other in Create a World and then use the CAW retaining walls or fences to connect the worlds?

The house plan I'm looking at could easily be cut up into three 64 x 64 lots, but I am not sure how it will act in game when Sims go to visit it since it will be a community lot. If anyone has done anything similar, would you mind telling me your experience with it?
Also, sorry if this should be in the Building section, but I thought this was more of a Create a World issue since it is placing the lot in Create a World.

Sorry but this cannot be done.
The maximum size for a lot, as you have found out already, is 64x64
If you then try to place another lot directly alongside another lot CAW will not allow it.
You must have at least a single square between two lots in order to place them.
Perhaps you could place two or more lots with, like you mentioned, some fencing directly around the lots to emphasise that they are one giant lot?
You will, however, have to still leave one square gaps between the lots.

If anyone else knows of a way to join lots together then I will admit to being wrong but, at this moment in time, I am, at least, 99% sure that I am correct.

Sorry that is not the answer you were looking for.

Aw, I was really hoping to create this building. :(

Is there a way to create a bigger lot area then? Like a mod or something?
If not, I should probably move over to the building forum, but I'll ask here right now so I'm not clogging up the forums.

I am trying to make this building:

Floor Plan Part 1 (http://www.folklib.net/graphics/hotr/hotr_tour_20090914a.jpg)
Floor Plan Part 2 (http://www.folklib.net/graphics/hotr/hotr_tour_20090914b.jpg)

It has three distinct areas, and the building itself is huge. I was hoping that there was something I could do via CAW with the lots to be able to create this since I'm almost positive it's too big for the pre-made lots.

Since the three lot trick will not work with creating this building, does anyone know a way I can create it? If I need to go to the building forum, I will do so, but I'm still not sure if this is more of a building question or a CAW lot question since I am using CAW to create the lot with the EIG mode.

There has been talk in the past of what I am about to suggest, but how about if someone makes an object that can be placed to hang over the lot (that can be done) which acts like a sort of fake part of the building. Having it as an overhanging lot object at least means you can CASt it unlike a world object. The sim won't spontaneously cross from one side to the other, but it could mean you get the appearance right.

I was thinking of something that looks like wall and floor slabs, so they can be arranged as required.

So what happens if I take your lot size tool and add a lot for, say, 128 x 128? Hmmmm.

Edit: O.K., it crashes the game!

I was just wondering if it was one of those things where a voice booms from above:

"Thou shalt not make lots bigger than 64 x 64, or I, thy Lord and EA shall smite thee."

or it simply was a case of EA deciding that lots larger than 64 by 64 were not needed.

it's probably down to the data field defined. At some point it probably gets processed in a data type that can't hold more than 4096bytes

There was talk on these forums about trying to figure out how to do custom lot sizes bigger than 64x64 but I don't think anyone got anywhere with it

I am pretty sure that is a hard limit. It was the same in TS2, in spite of all Mootilda's extensive work on lot modding, it simply could not happen.

It's a shame that it can't happen. I will try Inge Jones's method stated above to see if it will work. Luckily, the area that I picked is connected mostly by outside paths, so the building itself is technically three buildings. :)
