Where can dogs find food?

Hello first post here. I am wondering if the dogs can find food other than from their own bowls at home. The Sim tried to give the dogs some hot dogs on the floor but not successful. Can the dogs carry and eat apples or watermelon? Or can they store food somewhere else and visit the place another day? They cannot go to restaurants. Can they have good food moodlet? I don't want my dogs to go back home every few hours just for food, and I don't want my dogs to drink their own pee when they are hungry and far away from home.

Hmm. Just starting my first dog family, so I don't know for sure, but Sims can make pet food in the kitchen now... try having the sim make something and see if you can put that in the dog's inventory?

I had my dog eat a seed, haven't seen anything else around town that my dog would eat yet, except the mailman:jest:.

They can eat from a trashcan, but it gives them 'ate something bad' moodlet. But it was already knocked over by a raccoon so I'm not sure if a dog can knock one over and then eat from it. Then they vomit and are able to eat that vomit... Then I suppose they can vomit again... and eat that vomit again... I don't know, it's just plain disgusting!

Drinking from a lake/beach or a puddle also counts as eating for dogs. You can make a less disgusting puddle by having the dog jump in a pool and then waiting for them to shake the water off when they get out.

If you buy a food bowl they owner can fill it with food.

If you make the dog walk to a neighbors house they can ask to go inside just like their humans :) And the other sims can feed them I think, or if they have a dog your dog can eat their food. Dogs are totaly scavenger!

They really should allow dogs to mooch at the table.

Haven't played with a pet yet, but can you put food bowls around town in all of the community lots? Isn't one of them always full? Maybe through buydebug? I have been putting the hitching posts around all the community lots for horses, but haven't thought about the cats and dogs.

I actually had a hungry dog running through the world after some treasure he'd sniffed out (turned out to be a chip bag, after he ran halfway across the map for it, lol). He passed by an apple seed and thought about eating it -- that is, the action was added to his queue, but it fell off again after he'd passed the seed. So they may be able to eat seeds from spawners... I'll test this next time I get a chance.

dogs can eat lots of stuff, mine found a leaf (maple leaf) and he could eat it.

When your Sim is cooking something at the stove, your dog can watch the sim cook, and then the sim has the option to "Toss Scraps" to the dog! I haven't tried this yet, but I've read several accounts of it. :D

just use the pet bowl
