Has anyone found the trick to the international level of horse racing?

My horse has maxed racing skill, the fast trait, and my rider has maxed riding skill... yet I still can't seem to place higher than 3rd using any of the paces or combinations of them.

My horse and sim are elated and their every need bar is pretty full and I choose "go for broke" pace. Although, that horses jumping skill is also full, but I don't think it matters in racing, it wouldn't be logical. And I almost forgot, my horse has gained that long distance racer challenge. Hope this helps, I had issues winning cross-country in international level.

Chances are it has to do with how many hours you've spent training and how long you've galloped for (Like how performace number will get you more tips in instruments or books read affects writing skill).
Although I don't think you need to do much, my horse won her first International from just being really happy and level 10 on go for broke.

Someone posted that at the international level, you should run half the race at "Take Risks" and then switch to "Go For Broke" in the second half. I can't verify that ;) If I can find the post again I'll link it.

I'd say make sure you have the skill challenges completed and see if that helps.
