Will guys play skyrim? I want to but my computer might not be able to handle it but then I again I can play batman arkham asylum and that plays fine.. Maybe I'll be able to play it on low settings...
So are you guys going to get it? are you getting on pc, ps3, or xbox 360?
If I get it I would get it on pc. I don't have a ps3 or xbox 360.

Me? Deffers. On 11/11/11 The RPG nerd within me will finally come out!! I saw the trailers months ago and I was astonished. The graphics are so amazing it's like playable ART. And the fact that the game actually has mounts. I'm sorry but the reason why I never played Dragon Age or Morrowind is because for me, an Action-RPG without at least horses is like toast without jam.

I can't wait to play Skyrim while listening to the longest most epic prog-rock songs (think Yes-Close to the Edge and Kansas-Incomudro Hymn to the Atman) :)

Yeah the game looks really beautiful. Games like this makes me want to go buy a nice computer and be able to enjoy the graphics fully.
I didn't realize this game had mounts that's awesome!
I was watching a video on gamespot and the music is really good as well.. I also heard some of the voice acting!

Two words: Hell yes.

Now whether I can afford it on release date is currently up for debate. *pouts* All my bills are due the day friggin' before. Of course.

Note: I'm definitely buying it for my computer. I haven't strayed from my PC for the Elder Scrolls Series before and I LOVE the mods the community creates.

Nope, I don't think so. I tried Morrowind and 1. I found it irritating in very many respects (from the amount of aimless wandering about to the too dark default graphics settings) and 2. the first person view made me sick (as it always does and I know you can convert it to third person, thanks). I know those are all trivial and fairly fixable things but I just didn't like the experience of playing the game when I tried and EVERYTHING rubbed me up the wrong way. I guess I'm just not a natural fan of the game series. Anyway, I gave Oblivion a miss and I shall also miss this.

Yes, yes, so yes. I already have the disk, actually (have for a couple days - game shops here usually call you for preorders as soon as they get the disks in, regardless of release date) but Steam won't let me install it yet. On PC, of course - Bethesda always releases a Construction Set for their games which means you can mod the hell out of them, but only on PC. Plus, well, I have a beefy gaming rig so it'll look beaauuuuuutiful.

A bottle of mead is chilling in the fridge.
A bottle of mead will be mulled and heated.
More mead will be purchased.
Tankards are washed and ready for filling.
Food (and I mean food, not crappy ass snacks) for ease of preparation or reheating is being purchased and prepared today.
Computer is updated.
All chores have been done, will be done today, or will be forgotten about until Monday, possibly Tuesday.

Umm.....yeah, think we're ready for my husband to play.

I, however, won't be playing until a spider mod is made. Therefore, I am going to set up camp in my computer room and play something else until my eyes bleed.

That or I'll go shopping. :D

I have been waiting for this since I beat Oblivion.

I will cease to exist in the real world for AT LEAST a week. I'm looking forward to a week living in Skyrim, while my body inhabits the couch in my living room. Also, preordered JUST for the cloth map. I'm hanging it on my living room wall.

I hated Oblivion but I do find myself enjoying Skyrim a great deal. The dumping of the prior game's generic fantasy setting certainly helps as does a much more toned down scaled leveling system.

All up I'm pleased with my decision to return to the franchise after Bethesda's last TES misstep. The fact it's all running a max settings at a constant 60 fps also helps. ;)

i have it for xbox, as i know all too well that my computer would have a bitch fit if i put another game on it, and also i played oblivion on xbox, so to me, thats my preferred format. i am loving this! i love the way the characters look, the towns, the wilderness, everything, it's amazing. playing my usual type, a sneaky archer Khajiit named Kiskirr. unlike normal though, i'm not stealing everything thats not nailed down. being good, for once. it can't last! xD

The best time I had so far - and I know this is morbid - was murdering my follower, Lydia. She was useless in battle - I didn't even know she was there during attacks until the bloodshed was over, at which time she would arrive next to my side, sheathing her sword as if she'd helped. She uttered a really bitchy phrase each time I had her carry anything for me, constantly got in my way, and lacked personality. After one particularly intense battle I noted she was laying deceased on the ground, so I went and looted her for my things. It turned out her gear was better than mine, so I took it all and donned it. As soon as I put it on, though, I realised I was not comfortable with my follower being dead (this was before I learned how crappy she REALLY was), so I reloaded a save and made sure to keep her out of harm's way. But I kept thinking about how I'd like to have her armour. Then she got round to annoying me and proving her worthlessness. So I brought her to the woods, killed her, stripped her of her clothing, and dragged her body into a nearby river. I watched her float away before sinking into the depths. It was so sinister! I felt like a true viking!

Then a few days later, a courier found me and gave me her inheritance.

I have a different follower now - Uthgerd the Unbroken. She's a little better, but not much. And I like her gear too... >.> :giggler:

Actually, I think the companion system in Skyrim so far isn't that great. I haven't got much a sense of personality from either follower I've used, and they both seem very unfriendly and unlikeable. Fallout: New Vegas companions are better. In NV, it's annoying when they repeat the same lines all the time, but you actually get a sense that a real character is following you around rather than a bot. And I never really get caught up trying to move around a companion in New Vegas, whereas in Skyrim I've been blocked by my followers many times, especially in caves where there isn't much space. They also keep scaring me when they run up to me from odd directions. I was making my way up a hallway in a fort, killing bandits, and Uthgerd the Unbroken was at the end of the hall running toward me. Didn't realise it was her until my warhammer was coming down on her skull.

My other complaint has to do with the mountains. Like in New Vegas, there are slopes that look like they should be mountable but are not, so you wind up having to walk all over the place in the wrong direction(s) trying to find a path you can take to get to a location on or around a mountain. I find that pretty frustrating. It would be nice if you could scale the cliffs! At least the easy looking ones. It does give you an excuse to explore the world, yes, but sometimes I just want to get to a quest location and I cannot figure out how to access it because there are stupid hills in the way that my character should be able to just walk or climb the hell over.

Anyway, here's my character. I figured I might as well make a Nord, since this is Skyrim and all. :) I'm crafting him with two-handed weapons, heavy-armour, and not much magic at all in mind.

I didn't realise how much he looked like Captain Jean-Luc Picard with hair until I snapped this screenie...

My follower mostly tends to be a packmule and a distraction for enemies. My sneak skill is very high, so she's good at luring enemies closer once I start sniping them with arrows, and she'll keep them busy while I set them on fire once they get close enough. At one point, I went through a gate that came right back down behind me, with tons of enemies on the other side... but they only noticed her, on the other side of the gate where they couldn't get her, and completely ignored me while I killed all of them (there was a TON of them!), snarling at her through the gate. Hi-larious.

The other problem with companions in Skyrim, is if you take an odd route - say, down a very steep mountainside, they will not follow. The game wont teleport them either. They probably take a long way searching you out, but sometimes depending on the terrain, they wont be back any time soon, til your enter an instance.

Has anyone else had the glitch where you get shot with an arrow, but it never fades off your character until you're hit with an arrow again?

Also is there any rhyme or reason to the cinematic kills?

Rock Chick
16th Nov 2011, 08:12 AM
I thought it was quite funny having an arrow sticking out of my characters head as she carried on casting and running through the cave :D I think the slow mo kill is for when you do a special move/extra power kill . I have done a few by luck I think!
I have Lydia and a stupid pilgrim type who both got in the way of my flame spell when we got attacked by a looter outside Whiterun , next thing I know all the city guards in sight of it attacked me!!! No turning the blind eye for a thane !!

I loved Oblivion (I used to watch my dad play it for years before he thought I was old enough to play it.) but I uninstalled it after going through the entire game twice.
So when I heard about Skyrim I was super-excited and drooled over the beautiful pictures and the DRAGONS :O but the 18+ rating is scaring me off a bit. I'm 14 (15 in febuary) and was unphased by Oblivion but I honestly don't know wether to get Skyrim or not.

I guess it depends on what you're concerned about. There is some blood and ick, and the finishing moves animations can be a little bit graphic. There are a couple decapitations (executions) too. But most of the time it's not -super- graphic violence... it can be pretty scary, but that's more in a suspenseful sort of way. And also spiders.

It's still worth going by foot I think though since the scenery is gorgeous, you can stock pile alchemical ingredients, hunt, mine ore if you find any and level up from random enemy encounters. There's also a dog roaming around somewhere that can become a companion :D

I've been holding off playing until something is done about the spiders. The giant ones in Skyrim are horrifying! I saw a picture of one in the game guide and that sealed the deal of no play til a mod is made.

Fortunately someone over at the Skyrim Nexus has made a temporary mod (http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=28) to replace the spiders with bears or sandcrabs. When the creation kit is released there will most likely be better mods for replacing them, but this will work for now.

Once Thanksgiving week is over and I start playing, this mod is being loaded up immediately.

Amazingly, outside of one hidden object game, Skyrim is the only game I've encountered that has taken my arachnophobia to such a degree that I can't play a game. I've had few problems with all the various spiders in DDO or in DA:O and those were some of the worst offenders to date. IMO realism can go too far.

It's best to behave as if no one's clicked any of your buttons, good or bad. Thinking too much about them, I've observed, can drive a user to psychological breakdowns and desertions.

But speaking of Skyrim, does anyone have problems with the grain wheels? I'm not sure what to do with them. I get an option to activate the wheel, but my character doesn't do anything. However, there was a grain wheel outside in a farmer's field (under the open sky rather than INSIDE a mill) and my character did push the wheel as he should...but nothing happens. He just pushes it.

Also, when speaking with vendors, does anyone else find that when you click the "Misc" category of their available wares, the whole "What have you got for sale?" menu cancels out? :wtf:

Lol thanks for the link! I saw one of the big spiders in the trailer and it was scary then, coming across it in-game however would be awful *shudders*. I was fine with Daedra in Oblivion but high-quality and detailed giant arachnids in dark, gloomy caves? Nu-uh!

I haven't come across any other games with spiders in, thankfully, but I have an obsession with Lord of the Rings and I find it hard to watch the Shelob scene lol.

Sadly my dad's told me that the laptop can't handle both TS3 and Skyrim so naturally I chose to keep the first one. I'll definitely keep Skyrim in mind for when we update our pc's in future years. I just got Pets anyway so that'll keep me busy for a long time.

I started a new game though! I wanted to see how stealth and shooting arrows was. Turns out, very fun. I think I may prefer my sneaky khajiit now.

Um, talk about your actions coming back to bite you. Remember how I said in this thread about how I killed my follower Lydia, etc? Well, I just went to get married, and her body (which I put down a river, remember) pops out of the sky and lands on the temple floor. The wedding quest fails, my partner leaves and says, "How could you!?" and no one in the temple will speak to me. I've looked it up, and it seems to be a bug ... but a pretty scary one. Didn't think Lydia's corpse would ever come back to haunt me... Wow.

From what I've read you now need to start the game on Steam (press play) so the old desktop shortcut to executable no longer works.

Looks like possibly the "Better Nights" mod on Skyrim Nexus, but the northern lights effect is in the vanilla game. What mods are you running, Damocles? I use the detailed faces mod, high quality eyes, sunglare, and glowing ore veins because I found it very hard to spot any mines, even in daylight. I tried using the FXAA Post Process Injector, because in the sample pictures it looks like it really increases awesomeness . . . but though I tried a few different "presets", I couldn't get used to any of them and found I preferred the graphics to NOT be so sharp and crazy bright. Looked less real. I'm not sure, but it appears you've got some kind of a graphics enhancement in the first pic that's very pretty . . .

Loved the "The Adventures of a Bored Dragonborn" by the way, and a few days ago I noticed your signature and almost fell out of my chair laughing.

I think I'm too addicted to this game. I am awake all night playing it. I started playing yesterday at around 7pm, played til the sun was up the following day, then couldn't sleep so I watched someone ELSE play Skyrim on Justin.tv while I tried to snooze, but it looked so fun I got up again around 8am and played some more... :\ I went to sleep around 2pm, then dreamed about...yeah, Skyrim.

Anywho, thanks for the tip about toggling free cam. I love that. Can finally get some screenies with weapons drawn!

Here's my Khajiit. I had to start him over, as I accidentally wrote over the original one's save. But I think he looks pretty much identical. He's swiftly becoming my "main". My Nord is a higher level still, but it's FUN being the sneak thief. ^.^

Anyone else dual wield daggers? The animations are really awesome. I actually just started using them when a thief attacked my Khajiit with 2 daggers drawn, and was doing all sorts of impressive moves to intimidate me. I thought, yeah, that looks fun!

As for the Bosmers... the ears look good, but most of the NPC elves I've seen look kind of ugly IMO. It might be possible to design your own so that it's nice looking though. I haven't tried yet. I'm eventually going to make a mage character that's either a wood elf or a dark elf. But I've already got three characters going now! Started a 3rd last night.

He's an Imperial, and specializes in one-handed weapons and restoration spells. I figure this will make combat quite fun. Run in, swipe a few bandits with my sword, back up while casting heal, and then run back in again.

I'm using Faendal from Riverwood as his follower, because you can ask Faendal to train you in archery, then take the money back and retrain all the way to level 50 for free (I think 50...?) in Archery. So my Imperial here also happens to be quite an accomplished Archer! Even though he's only shot a few arrows and isn't even level 10 yet ...hehe.

I play it on the PC and I know quite a few people enjoy playing on XBox, but from what I've read Bethesda has problems doing a good job programing for PS3's. It's a telling indication that their first patch on Monday (notFriday) was for the PS3.

If you have a good PC with a good graphics card, the PC should be your 1st choice. The modding community has quite a few mods out already for the PC, over a 1000 was what I heard. Though rumor has it there's an project in the works to make mods available for the XBox, not sure if the same effort is being made for the PS3.

(edited to change day that PS3 version of Skyrim was patched)

PC! For better graphics and modabilaty, I'd never consider playing it on anything else! The drawback is that the interface was designed for console which can make it a bit fiddly but pick up a wiered xbox controller for windows and its win/win. The benefits of PC gaming coupled with the gaming pad ease of use is superb :D

Definitely get it for PC if it can handle it. I would have gotten it for pc because I've played Morrowind and Oblivion on it, but it isn't strong enough for Skyrim unfortunately.
The problems the PS3 version has (lag issues after hitting a certain mb) is annoying. Makes the game unplayable. I haven't installed the patch yet and really do hope it fixes it, but some people over on the Bethesda forums are saying it barely did anything, and then for others it has worked.

Pc is the way to go, just make sure your system can run it as the game IS quite graphically intense. But with PC you have the capability of installing mods, as others have said, and you have console commands which come in handy.

Despite the game being very gamepad friendly I do recommend playing keyboard and mouse as you have 8 customisable hot keys for weapons, items, magic, shouts, etc... by having those hot keys at your command you can spend less time outside of those pesky menus.

Mmmm yes hot keys...... I did play with keyboard and mouse at first but I decided to sacrifice hot keys after a while. Favourites are still very accessible outside of menus and I don't miss the magic numbers at all!
I've always been a console gamer since I was a wee girl (snes anyone) so a pad's going to be more comfortable for me and likewise PC gamers tend to prefer the m & k but I would still recommend a pad to PC gamers for skyrim, it makes navigation much easier

EDIT: I wouldn't recommend a pad for all PC games though, some PC games are just awkward with a pad :P

Eh, I'm comfortable with both controller and mouse & keyboard, and have played Skyrim with both and I greatly prefer mouse & keyboard. Some things are slightly awkward but you get used to it - but the advantages (like being able to aim a bow with incredible precision) are worth it. If you're playing a melee character, or if you don't care at all about decorating your house, it might not make a big difference though.

I like to playing a mage or at least a magical character. In previous TES games you could do that. In Morrowind you have quite some options to play a full mage, not mention the awesome Great House Telvanni. currently playing a telvanni mage.

I've heard some real mixed messages about Skyrim mage characters. . . Some say they are underpowered, some say they are overpowered. I've also heard the Destruction skill tree isn't very "good". Ultimately I think I'll need to create my own Mage, and decide for myself.

Nvenya
1st Dec 2011, 10:58 PM
The Destruction tree doesn't scale very well in the upper levels. In the lower levels, like below level 40, it can be pretty strong. Depends on what difficulty you play on as well. Over at the Nexus there is a mod out that buffs up Destruction. If you want to play without mods then I would suggest not going without Conjuration as a mage.

Sneak is overpowered. Aside from bosses, there isn't much I can't kill with a backstab. I hear the Smithing+Enchanting+Alchemy combo is very overpowering. To keep things interesting I've only taken Alchemy on my assassin.

I find companions amusing. I also use Lydia as bait. She never seems to die.

I'm using the No More Blocky faces mod which includes Less Ugly Elven faces, the 4GB patch and the Improved Destruction Magic mod. I can't wait until Bethesda releases the CK so the community can fix all the bugs. Some of the quest bugs make me want to pull my hair out.

I have a level 25 stealth/destruction mage who's also a high level enchanter (80 skill).

I've been using a "tutorial" by evilnight as the basis for most of my character's development.

evilnight 's post "Here's how to rock Destruction without even caring about your mana bar" can be found a ways down the page in this link, it's the second post. The first post is a huge "tips and tricks" info post.

http://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/mb8la/massive_list_of_all_the_tips_and_tricks/

Basically it's about enchanting gear and choosing perks to get a very mana efficient character. Some nice suggestions for spell choices such as Frost vs. Fire vs. Electricity.

I chose a Breton for magic resistance and her main spell choose is lightning bolts/dual casting (Impact perk). I've had problems with chain Lightning killing my companion since it tends to arc back. I might to enchant some shock resistant gear for the companion. :)

I have a theory that all of the old cheese and cabbage you find in dungeons actually gets eaten by your companion, and their sudden disappearance is due to really needing to, uh, take care of some personal needs, since they've been eating all that nasty old food that's been sitting there since god knows when. My first 10 minutes of gameplay: "Oh my god!!!!!"
I had always played with mouse and keyboard. It was hard to handle the controller.
The game throws me into the story. I had to react. From nervous to hysteric I found a way to escape.
I love games like Gothic with a very slow beginning. "Go to the city!" is like a promenade. I had time to learn the control. But Skyrim is insane!!! No time for discovering and learning, react or die.
I played just the beginning of the game, the escape. I'm playing a Redguard.

I'm holding out for patch 1.3 at the moment, as it seems patch 1.2 broke more then it fixed. The main issue that it was supposed to fix on Xbox, the texture scaling problems, isn't even solved for me, if anything it's getting worse.

The irony is that I got it on Xbox because my PC wasn't powerfull enough to run it, thenn the weekend after I got Skyrim, my PC broke down and I got a new one (not pouring money in a 4 year old PC) So now I have a i7-2600 with my old HD 5750 card, a PC that can handle Skyrim just fine...

Knowing how slow M$ can be with approving patches it'll be next week before the patch will be released on Xbox, by which time I'll be playing SWTOR, too little, too late :(

Good thing I got Saints Row 3 to keep me busy.

I'm waiting for the next patch as well. It seemed to help with the lag problem a bit but it introduced another game breaking bug for the PS3. It keeps freezing randomly which 1. Is annoying as heck and 2. isn't good for the PS3 and can break it.
So I stopped playing after it froze 4 times in a day (didn't play long either).
That's the only thing I really hope get's fixed.
Others are complaining about backwards flying dragons, magic resistance not working and lag. I haven't encountered the dragons and lag wasn't a problem. The resistance I noticed but it's not game breaking for me.

Sounds like your monitor could do with some colour correction or at the very least you might want to hit up skyrimnexus.com for some of the shade/tint/saturation mods that allow you to tweak the colours to your hearts content.

But don't be fooled, the Xbox graphics are not better, not even close. A modern gaming PC is capable of showing Skyrim in significantly more detail than the Xbox or PS3 is.

- Higher resolution
- Better shadow rendering
- Full screen anti-aliasing
- Larger draw distances for landscapes, trees, grass and fauna
- And a whole slew of other improvements the console versions do not have

In addition there are a variety of high resolution texture mods available that enable you to have higher quality textures than either console version.

Odd thing is you can't take the thieves guild and DB armor and "disenchant" them to get their enchantment added to your available enchantments. Oh well, double enchanted gear is still nice, wearing 'destruction spell cost 26% less' and a 'plus 65 health' Gilded Elven Armor (Epic) works for me. :)

Even tho I loved both Morrowind and Oblivion I would recommend starting with Skyrim. Not playing either of those two shouldn't make Skyrim any less enjoyable, since the game stands on it's own.

Here is a two part Let's Play from my favorite LPer Quill18.. He does a nice job of explaining the game. Be warned he's going through a dungeon that's a quest for the group called the Companions and if you don't like spoilers you shouldn't watch them. But it's only one quest out of the hundreds you can do in the game.

Looks pretty good, I like the graphics :) I might make a separate board with specifics on which one I should get first of those games, just for the fact that I know very little about them. Only that I really want to play some nice RPG (that's the one where you go into games and slice people with swords and collect loot, right? The genres are a bit tricky for me to get XD) on my new computer :)

Since I've made up my archer character very little of the game has been very epic - it's just a matter of creeping up on places where you go "looks like monsters" and then shooting 1-3 arrows into the thing. Even the dragons have been pretty pathetic, and these dungeons with the enormous rooms where you can see all of your potential monster spawns ahead of time are just silly. It's harder remembering to tell the NPC mule-character to sit in the back for a while, because Papa Mook has got to do Serious Business with his bow. On the other hand, I can't imagine all that working with an Xbox controller. Some of the more extreme shots I attempt rely really heavily on the physics engine and understanding where the arrow is go in the milliseconds it takes for it to travel to target and the monster to keep walking its pathing.

Now I'm having more fun just walking around and looking at the view. I hated the previous Morrowind games because I thought they weren't very pretty, but Skyrim's gorgeous.

It was no good idea trying to kill the dragon with a bow when you have no skills. My redguard character was level 5 and I invested all skills in heavy armor and two-handed weapons (1 point for magic).

I feel often like an idiot when I play Skyrim. Sometimes because I missed something important, sometime because I have problems with the playstation controller. I am a pc gamer.
I confused the buttons and made a dragon shout in the middle of a city. :p

HAH! I was just testing what sort of warning you get on low health with an invisible HUD, so I attacked my companion/husband enough times that he would fight me back. I let him kill me, and after the cinematic of my slaughter I heard him say to my corpse something along the lines of, "Hello my love. Back from some great adventure?"

I just got Skyrim this week, so I'm pretty late xD

I played a mage at first then made an archer. Sneaking around and assassinating people is a lot more fun. I don't actually do much fighting as most enemies are one-shotted by my sneak attacks anyway o__O

The only trouble I'm having is fighting against dragons. My arrows only do about 2% damage against them and they only stay still for a few seconds. My mage follower actually does a lot more damage than me.

I got skyrim for xbox after christmas and love it. I haven't got as far as I want to because I've been busy though. My character is a Breton thief named Mimi. I wish I could take a picture to show what she looks like, but I think taking a picture of your TV screen with a digital camera wouldn't turn out right. Anyway, she has the chin length dark brown hair, and brown eyes (I wanted blue but I couldn't see the eye colors on my little tv), and is wearing the thalimor robes and carries around a big steel war hammer that has been improved at the blacksmith. Her specialty skillwise is going to be alchemy and probably speech. I may make a secondary character, maybe a Khajiit or dark elf. My nephew plays and we talk about the game all the time. One of his his character is a Khajiit named Mr. Mittens. :) I'm only level 5 and have a long way to go, but I'm really enjoying the game. :)

I started a social group here for people who play the sims and also skyrim.

I got Skyrim shortly after Christmas. I've made several character to experiment with different races and styles, but my main character is an Argonian rogue. I haven't gotten the hang of melee sneak attacks yet, but I like to sneak around, shoot with my bow from a distance, and then switch to sword and fight in hand-to-hand combat. So maybe I'm a bit more ranger-y. Well, except for the fact that I do lots of lock-picking and stealing. I have a little less of a focus on pick-pocketing, but I do a bit of that, too. I've got another character I like playing where I'm going the totally honorable, no stealing, no pick-pocketing, only lock-picking chests that don't belong to anyone else route. She's a Nord fighter. I like the combination of two-handed weapon + light armor, because it means you're still quick while dealing lots of damage.

I love the little details of the game. The way the world works around you even when you're not witnessing it. One of my favorite minor details so far is in the beginning at the chopping block scene. If you play any race other than Imperial, Prince Stormcloak will stare at you during the beginning of the execution ceremony. If you play an Imperial, he will ignore you. It fits, and I like that they put the work into that level of detail.

Thieves Guild Spoiler

I find this storyline kind of hypocritical. Here we have a group of people that has no problem with theft, blackmail, assault, occasional murder, and framing innocent people. Then everyone gets their feathers in a ruffle when Mercer Frey stole from them. I remember in some scene where your character confronts him, you have an option of saying, "At least I still have honor!" ...uh, no you don't.

I say, well played, you magnificent bastard. If I had a magic key that unlocks anything, I wouldn't give it up either.

You need level 90 smithing and it's made of ebony ingot and Daedric hearts :3

(Best place to find ebony ingot is to mine it from Gloombound Mine, by going through the Orc stronghold Narzulbur. There's tons of ebony ore there, even if the Orcs dont like you there they wont stop you from mining in there or stealing ore that's just lying around. And the hearts, (Spoiler Alert! >.>) the best way to get them I think is doing that museum quest for the guy in Dawnstar, he'll take you to Mahrunes Dagon's....temple...thingy. And there's usually like six or so Daedra there you can just mash and steal there hearts ;o Also if you have done all the companions quests and can take things from Kodlak's room without stealing there's usually one on a plate on an end-table that respawns every...ten days I think? c: )

It's much better on PC if you have a decent one. Console versions only render at 1280x720 resolution while the PC can render at your native resolution. There's a high-res texture pack to improve how things look, and the Creation Kit is fun. It's super easy to make your own CC with it. I made my own NPC followers, one of which is a chicken. He's kind of annoying and gets in my way so I have to jump over him all the time, but he does distract enemies for a bit so I can launch a few arrows at them while they're wasting time attacking the chicken (who I made essential so he can't die). My human followers are fascinated by him - I catch them staring intently at him all the time.

Just got the game in Feb and already put 200+ hours into it. I'm at level 55 and have completed just about every quest and am kind of sad that I've almost exhausted all there is to do.

Yeah, probably! Don't feel bad, I've killed her (and Jordis) accidentally a few times. Sometimes I saw it happen (they jumped in front of the bad guys in the split second that I launched an arrow or destruction spell), other times I wouldn't see it, but I'd find one of my arrows stuck in her corpse.

That's one of the reasons I made my own followers and made them essential so they don't die from friendly fire!

Funny, the day you bumped this I started playing again. But it's taken me this long to get around to showing off my latest character.

I've got Dawnguard installed but haven't started the quest yet. On my "main" character I figure I'll make him a slayer. But then I realised I kind of want to try out the vampire stuff as well. None of my current characters really felt "vampirey" to me so I opted to start all over yet again.

Here's my Redguard, Soon-To-Be-Vampire, Anora.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v80/castrostaal/skyrim/TESV2012-08-2401-15-42-03.jpg

Currently she's pretty efficient with bows, light armour, one-handed weapons (I might try to get her one of those Redguard Curved. Swords. I intend to use a lot of poisons on her blade(s)...which makes me wish Skyrim had spears because I'd love to have her roaming the tundra with a poison-tipped spear...), and illusion magic. Illusion will fit in nicely with her vampireness, once I get her started on the Dawnguard quests.

@Damocles - whatcha got goin' on there? :) It looks very nice & cinematic. I've had a lot of problems with getting ENB's to behave properly but I'd love to try some. I've just never had any success with the ones I've poked at.

@Damocles - whatcha got goin' on there? :) It looks very nice & cinematic. I've had a lot of problems with getting ENB's to behave properly but I'd love to try some. I've just never had any success with the ones I've poked at.

First go here:

http://enbdev.com/index_en.html

Click the Download button and under Graphic Modifications click TES Skyrim. Click Download v0.117 beta. That will take you to "ENBSeries v0.117 beta for TES Skyrim." You should see a small icon to the left of those words. It looks like a down arrow inside a box without the top. That is their poor choice of download link, I say poor choice because it can easily be mistaken for something else and it just doesn't scream "click me." Download that. Inside that .zip is a file called d3d9.dll and that is the main file for the ENB Series.

Put that file in your Skyrim folder where TESV.exe is. As long as that file is in that folder then ENB is installed.

Next, you will download a custom set to tell d3d9.dll ENB what to do. I recommend Project ENB:

http://www.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/20781#

It's not that taxing of an ENB, but it does have those nice effects like Depth of Field and Godrays. Download and unzip any and all files that begin with "enb" into your Skyrim folder where d3d9.dll is.

And then it is installed. You start Skyrim and ENB plus the set is enabled by default. But you can toggle it with Shift + F12, mainly to see how much of a performance drop the ENB costs, and to switch between "screenshot worthy mode" and "gaming mode."

If Project ENB is too much of a hog then you can try a different ENB set:

http://www.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/15425

^This one claims no performance loss. I doubt that one has Depth of Field

Finally, there is one more thing. You might notice a strange dotted pattern in the shadows when using ENB. But there is a fix for that:

http://www.skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/283

Follow one of the three options of instructions, apply the bugfixes, and the performance fixes. I actually like to set my shadow resolutions to 1280, which is slightly higher than medium. But it looks okay because the shadows are blurred with this fix.

@Shoosh Malooka Thanks :)

Have you folks heard there's another DLC coming out for XBox on September 4th? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7gXwNVpDmfo

PC version is coming later. The trailer is pretty underwhelming. 3/4 of the way through I wondered if it was a joke. Not that the idea of having a family and building a home is a bad one. It just seems very oddly presented in the trailer. But honestly, if all Hearthfire adds is what's covered in the preview I don't think the entertainment value would be very long lasting. Probably a waste of money.

In other news I'm loving my Redguard. She hid behind some rocks at Valtheim Towers and kept hitting the bandit leader with the Fury spell, causing her to kill three of her own guards, at which point I sneaked into her tower, "calmed" her, and slaughtered her. Really fun!

^Putting aside the fact that this new DLC seems pretty lame to me, it pisses me off to no end how they prioritize releasing DLCs on the Xbox. They released Dawnguard on the console like one fucking month before they did on the PC. It's so unfair!

There is a reason for the DLC being lame and cheap. It's to put the nail in the coffin for that contract they have with Microsoft. The one that makes add-ons exclusive to XBox for 30 days. It expires with Hearthfire. So if, say, the next expansion were to be "War With the Thalmor" we don't have to feel one-upped by XBox.

Anyone planning on trying the Elder Scrolls MMO when it's released? Other than me? :heyhey:

I may try it if I hear it's quite worth it. But I spent over a year really addicted to an MMO so I tend to avoid them now. Elder Scrolls Online is definitely intriguing though.

That is a sign that cannot be ignored. Sure, there are tinfoil theories. But this is cold, hard evidence.

I also find it interesting that Bethesda made a big deal about releasing Skyrim on 11-11-11. Now, if we were to add the roman numerals of ELDER SCROLLS...

0 + 50 + 500 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 100 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 = ?

...and add 5 for the V in TESV...

0 + 50 + 500 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 100 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 5 = ?

...and the common number in 11-11-11, which is 11...

0 + 50 + 500 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 100 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 5 + 11 = 666

After finishing ME3, I went back to Skyrim to play Dawnguard.
I decided to share the chicken follower I made in March since the site for Skyrim mods has no standards whatsoever no matter how stupid the mod.

Anyone here do any modding for Skyrim? I think it would be fun to mod that game, but I don't know where to start....

Sort of. I just learned some really basic scripting. I downloaded someone's Succubus Race on that Skyrim Nexus site, and that race has the ability to change form, so I made a custom Succubus follower and wrote some scripts so the player can ask her to change form via dialog or she will change form automatically based on whether her weapon is drawn or sheathed. I can tell you for certain that Skyrim modding is WAY easier than TS3 because the scripting language and Creation Kit is very well documented at http://www.creationkit.com. Not to mention the scripting language is a lot simpler than the C# used for TS3, and you can go from zero to save game loaded in under 10-seconds to test your mods rather than 10-minutes of TS3. It also has a really nice console that lets you view and set global variable values for poking and prodding at your script code.

I'm afraid of Skyrim Papyrus and a bit angry that they switched scripting language from Oblivion / Fallout 3. When I look at an example script from a tutorial it may as well be in heiroglyphics. Learning this new reference based script will take time, which I'm not ready to give up when I could actually be gaming. But if I could, I would access all humanoid actors near the player and give them random Oblivion birthsigns and powers, and then script them to use it in combat on GetDistance. For example, how would you like to like actors to use paralyze kiss if you got too close, or to use Shadow sign to teleport to a location where the player was 2 minutes ago and then package hunt the player? I did this with Oblivion, but it was very late in Oblivion's mod scene.

It would be fun to mesh and retexture some stuff for the game. Just did some noodling around, and it looks like 3DMax is the preferred program for that. Hope it's not the only one with import/export plugins. Guess I need to join the Elder Scrolls version of MTS!

Skyrim Nexus (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/) is where all the mods are, and the forums can get pretty busy, but I've noticed it's a lot harder to get help there than here, for example. I'd be interested if you find a site that offers more modding help.
I would have actually preferred if TS3 modding had been more 3DS Max oriented. It seems to be extremely powerful, and if you're a student, you can use it free for 3-years. http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=14185424
Texture mods are super easy, if you name your replacement texture the same as the original and put it in the correct folder, the game will use your copy instead. I was able to make a few simple face texture mods to the Breton race (smoothing out the forehead wrinkles) and also to the Redguards (smoothing out eye bags). I haven't tried any meshing yet though.

Permission to reload: Go ahead and reload. Technically you didn't die, right? Just reloaded before you died, but don't make that a habit. So reload and be more careful, this is the last break you get. The DiD topic on the Official Forums would tell you that you must die with the consequences, but I think that Skyrim is too wonky an interface for that. Moreover, there have been times I've put away my weapon to signal a yield and guards were not alerted to it.

There are far nobler ( and cheap killmove or arrow critical ) deaths ( I would dl a mod to turn off enemy killmoves ) out there to be had by enemies that truly want you dead, than to some combination of bad AI of guards and poor menu.

Companion Vilja for Skyrim (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/26393) is here! Actually, she was released 4-days ago, I'm a little behind. She was the best part of Oblivion, I can't wait to try her for Skyrim! Even after 200hrs of play in Oblivion, she still surprises me with new dialogue I've never heard before.

Yep, i read it on emma's forum. It's also uploaded on emma's site.
Emma is one of those TES modding pioneers. She started with modding already in Morrowind in the early days and worked together with grumpy (who is responsible for the companion script in morrowind, which is used at alot of companions)
For Morrowind she created Laura Craft, Morgana le hex, Constance and offcourse also White wolf of the lokken mountain, as well as many other mods. Her daughter, known by the name majamikol, has also started with modding.
I still play Morrowind myself and use alot of Emma and Grumpy's companions, like Constance, Morgana and Laura. Especially Constance is great. The companionmods from Emma are more then only a packmule and meatshield.

I have Skyrim for the PC and dawnguard and hearthfire and I found the game has bugs, and some quests can't be cleared from your journal entry once completed!..

I use mods in my game from nexusmods, but I don't think there to blame for quests not being cleared from my journal, Bethesda games need's to come out with patches for the game!..

here's the armor I choose from it, it also has a leather crown with a steel piece that partially covers the nose, this image is used in my steam application as a avatar

It has a TON of new spells, shouts, powers, weapons, and armors, much more than Dawnguard. It was also nice to spend some time in a new map. It can be hard for lower level characters at first, but if you can survive the first few missions, you power up pretty quickly. You can also go back and forth between Skyrim and Raven Rock any time you want, so you can snag a few goodies, then go back to the mainland if the quests are too hard at first.

I re-installed the Unofficial Skyrim Patch and the two Unofficial Patches for the dlc's!..

I was playing without the Unofficial Patches and was doing the thieves guild quests and the quest Dampened Spirits wouldn't come up in my journal and I didn't the quest Loud and Clear perfectly!..

So I'll start a new game with the Unofficial Patches and see what happens in the new game!..

New

The Skyrim dlc Dragonborn for pc is now available for pre-order on Steam. Dragonborn. Downloadable content pre-order. Because I guess the downloadable content supplies are limited. And to be available to us early so that we get to play it before others like the 360 owners before us. Low price of $19.99, even though it must have been expensive to mass produce digital copies in this economy. Featuring truly original content of dragon mounts that you probably thought you saw for Oblivion on nexus or planetelderscrolls but good luck finding it there now, and is instead on here (http://modsreloaded.com/akatosh-mount). Bethesda will send free lollipops.

I played hearthfire for the first time this week sense buying it when it first game out, it's best to do the Dawnstar quest first, skald is the most buggy Jarl to get quest completed properly by, so buy Heljarchen Hall or it's land first!..
