View Full Version : Custom Paintings by me cause endless save?

I made some custom paintings for personal use and somehow they get my game stuck in an endless save.

I followed the tutorial to a T and the paintings show up fine in game, but when I place them in a house and save, the save just goes on forever. I let it try to save for about four hours today. I am wondering if something went wrong in cloning process, because the paintings that mine were cloned from work just fine and save fine. I really am lost on this issue. I don't know if anyone else had this problem, but it is really bugging me. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I used GIMP to simply copy and paste the the .jpg images onto the image file.

I used this tutorial HERE (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=377737)

I cloned the goth poster thing made CAStable, the Fable 3 paintings by Gelydh, the Tayu paintings by amjoie, and paintings by Ritsuka on the Advent Calender of 2010.

Could it be that I cloned custom paintings?

The image files need to be .dds files...it may be that this is what's causing your problem.

They are .dds. What I meant was that the images that I was using to put on the texture file that were copy and pasted .jpg onto the .dds files.

Sorry...I misunderstood what you were saying. Also, as far as I know, you can only clone user-made content that was originally made with s3pe...that is, you can't clone objects that were made with tsrw and have things work right. In looking at the Fable 3 ones at Club Crimson it looks like they may have been made with tsrw so that too could be an issue. I may be mistaken about that but that's how things used to be and I haven't heard that it's changed.

Okay, thanks. Apparently, I was wrong however. It seems that all custom paintings cause the save issue now. They didn't before, so I have no idea what is going on. I used the Dashboard, but it doesn't detect any problems.

Post one and we'll take a look at it. ;)

Why not?

I used the Dashboard, but it doesn't detect any problems. If you mean that other people's custom paintings which worked before are now causing your game to hang up then this doesn't sound like an object creation issue...it sounds more like a game help issue. If I were you I'd post in the game help area and get that problem taken care of first before resuming work on my custom paintings :)

If you mean that only yours are causing the save issue then doing what Cmo said would be helpful...post one of your paintings that's causing the problem so someone can look at it and see what the issue with it is.

I think it is my paintings that are causing the problem. The save issue started after I added them to my game. Where should I post the file?

Have you tried removing your paintings from the game to see if that fixes the save problem? If it does fix the problem have you tried adding your paintings back in one at a time to see if it's one specific painting or all of them that make the game not save?

I have not yet, but I know that it used to be that I could place everything else but them and have it save right, but as soon as I placed one, the save issue would happen. Now it is all custom paintings, though.

Now it is all custom paintings, though.I'm not sure if you cloned the painting by this person I just downloaded and tried in my game but if you did this is your issue...the painting is not compatible, for whatever reason, with the current patch.

It's the SleeplessAngel_TS3OBJ_PostersBioshock-Ads.package and it put my game into an endless save loop when I tried to save after placing it in a house. It wouldn't surprise me to find that other paintings they made based on this one are the same...in fact I'd be surprised if they weren't.

My advice to you is to clone an EA painting and practice on that until you feel confident that you have the process down. Then move on to custom paintings *after* you've tested them in your current build to make sure they work before cloning them. :)

Ah! That is the one I used. Strange. Thanks though!. I guess I will practice. I just wanted a poster style picture that had multiple images, instead of flooding my Paintings section with 1,000 pictures. Dang...

Dang...The tutorial I wrote and linked above shows you how to easily add multiple images to a painting that already has more than one material. If you just want a painting clone that has many images on it already you're free to clone and use any of the ones I've posted at my site Indigo that you like :)

Okay, I'll look into it. Thanks a lot for all your help!

EDIT: Okay, so I deleted the paintings that used that mesh and made all new ones using the Texture Tweaker and everything works fine. Just thought an update was in order. Thanks again!
