View Full Version : How do I buy a pet?

I just started playing the pets for the first time. So how do I get a pet for the sim family without making it on CAS and adding it to the family?
I don't see pet stores anywhere in the town which came with the pets. There's no pet store in the lots bin either. Does it need to be downloaded from the official sims 3 site? if so then where exactly is it there? I already registrated my game but I can't even find the pet starters kit on that site :faceslap:
Help, please?

Call on the phone or computer (I think) and you can adopt them.
You can buy horses, I think, at the Equestrian Center although I've never done this. The cats and dogs can't be purchased anywhere, they are adoption only.

Apparently, if you got the limited edition pets (like I did) then you can buy supplies on the store for free using the code included in the pack to build a pet store, but you have to build it yourself. I only like the :alarm: :mod: :!: Pawprint Windows :!: :mod: :alarm: that came with the Limited Edition/

The pet store does not sell pets, just pet-related objects.

You can't buy pets in this game, except for horses at the Equestrian Center.

Besides adding pets to your family via CAP and adopting them by phone, you will sometimes find neighbor families that have puppies/kittens/foals to adopt out. Check the paper or look for map tags on your map.

Neither buy horse nor any of the adoptions will let you customize the pets, mind you. If you're looking for a specific animal/breed, you will have to CAS it and merge it in.

yeah this is probably the only thing that really bothers me about S3 pets. in TS2 you could go to one of those little cage thingies at a community lot and buy/adopt (whichever it was) and it would take you to CAS so you could customize it. why would i only want to adopt an ugly pre-made pet with a stupid name?

Well, if you take the pet into CAS you can change the appearance, which changes the genetics. And you can change the name by clicking on it. And you can redo the traits.

So really, just buy some random pet of the age and gender you want and remake it in CAS.

While I agree with the response that it's not really that much of an inconvenience, it's still a little annoying. I was so confused why my family in a custom hood couldn't buy a cat or dog for fifteen minutes. The adoption people take so long to get there too.

Oh yes, and it's an absurd oversight that EA left it out. I was just offering a working solution, not suggesting a problem didn't exist.
