View Full Version : CAW not compatible with Late Night only - will installing Pets fix that? *FIXED, BUT TOTALLY NEW PROBLEM UNRELATED*

Hey guys! I have installed probably every old version of CAW compatible with Late Night to get it to work but to no avail. Current patch levels are:
BG: 1.17.60.
LN: 6.0.81 (Basically virgin levels)
Anyway I was thinking that if I install Pets with the newest version of CAW while Late Night is installed, then uninstall Pets, would this make a difference? Hehe, confusing right? To sum it up:
Late Night + CAW = X
Would Late Night + Pets + CAW = WORK if I then uninstall pets? It'll be a stretch to get the disk space, but I'm willing to try!

Alan_Gast, you would need version 1.10.9 of CAW to work with basegame 1.17 and LN 6.0.81.
If you updated your basegame to the latest version without Pets and some of the newer EPs, it would not work- since each version of CAW seems to have a minimum EP level to make it work.
For basegame 1.26, I had CAW working without Pets- but, I did have all other EPs and SPs. And we know, for example, that you need Town Life and/or Generations to run above 1.11.10.

There are download links to archived CAW versions there, too.
If you have any more problems, please post it there (as that will allow others to easily find your question and benefit from it).

I used the compatibility chart to see which version of CAW corresponded with my newly updated 6.5.1 game (thank you SO much for the archived CAW files!), installed it, and IT WORKED OMG
I was SO elated to see all the Late Night objects in metadata! Oh happy day! But then I noticed another problem... :faceslap:
I know you said to post in the other thread with problems, but this problem I've encountered is completely unrelated.
I've enclosed some screens to illustrate my problem. Essentially, spawners and effects are not recognised in metadata. Also, curiously, my CAW CC is showing up, but not with its original name, just with a random assortment of numbers!
These are pretty minor, but boy, will they be a hindrance later! I'm super nervous at the prospect of having to reintall CAW....

Glad you got it working, well done! :)
For the spawner thing, that's normal- EA messed up the categorizations, so you have spawners in the main section now (and trees seem to be in two places, making it really hard for us to find anything!). It's like that in everyone's CAW, so don't worry.
For the numbers thing, it sounds like you have some STBLs missing- is this custom content like Riverview objects? If so, then it usually means you don't have Riverview installed correctly (or Barnacle Bay or hidden Springs, if it is CC from those). Otherwise, it could be bad CC. See 'Odd hex numbers in the metadata list' here:

Oh, yes! I don't have Riverview installed - hehe, silly me. :)
However, effects such as the sailboats or pigeons aren't in CAW, but I noticed that the spawners were...
Thanks for you help simsample, you are so amazing! :D

Hmm, it's been a while since I had that version of CAW installed- but I don't remember not having the effects. Are they not in the main section either?

Wow, what a quick reply!
Check out what I mean by the effects not being there in the enclosed screenshot. Apparently, they're under 'Trees' but aren't appearing there.I've searched under the main 'environment' tab and in the metadata search box, but nada. It's so weird because I can't find anyone with the same problem as me on any site!

Yeah, I can see that you don't have the expand symbol there, which as far as I can remember has always been there (in all versions). Before doing anything else, just drag your Documents\ Electronic Arts\ The Sims 3 and Documents\ Electronic Arts\ The Sims 3 Create A World Tool folders to the desktop, and remove your packages from your CAW install. Then test to see if you still don't have any effects listed.

Nope. :( I have ZERO idea why this is happening! I mean, I have the spawners, just not the effects in metadata. I used another users CAW files and they were working, so I just am stumped.

If they don't show up when you have removed all CC and refreshed user files, then try reinstalling CAW. It's possible it hasn't picked up your game data correctly.

Unfortunately, I tried that twice! I am thinking of maybe using a previous world I made as a source for some effects and then using simPE to transport the layers into the world I'm making. D'you think that would worth doing, or should I continue to look for the root of the problem?

Well, I've never had Late Night installed without WA and Ambitions too, so it's quite possibly a problem with CAW beta when those EPs are missing. The archived upload is just a file uploaded by one of our forum members, and there shouldn't be any problem with it, so if reinstalling doesn't work then I would assume it's a program error (since they messed up the metadata categories anyway).
Yes, importing the layers would be a good solution, but also check that CAW is working stably for you by opening a copy of one of your previous worlds and attempting to save it in EIG and CAW, just to check all is well.

Hey simsample - I just thought I'd let you know that while I didn't get the effects to show up organically, I successfully modded them in and will have a stab at getting multiples of the same object into a world tomorrow. :)
Here's a shot of what I was able to accomplish today from your help! (Sorry for the LQ)

Well done Alan_Gast, I'm glad you got it fixed, although I'm still not sure why effects aren't showing in Metadata!
