View Full Version : Okay, I can do XML tuning mods, what kind of mod is...

What kind of mod is the NoMosaic mods that are out there? I see that it has to be redone every Expansion Pack, and I'd like to be able to help come up with one the next time a patch/EP comes out, which is, from what I understand, March of this year with Primetime. I saw a quick guide to making one once, which said you clicked on the Grid button on S3PE and looked for the visual effect that tied to SimCensorFX. However when I open S3PE, open the Gameplay.package and then click on Grid, I do not see anything, so I'm obviously missing a step there, and I'm wondering if it's because I'm treating it like an XML tuning mod (can be done purely in S3PE and Notepad) and it's really something more like a scripting mod.
Any help would be very appreciated and hopefully I will be able to return the favor by uploading said mod the day, or day after Primetime comes out.

There's a lot of different ways to do it. Best thing seems to be the way Twallan's done his NoCensor, which hasn't needed updating for each EP; not sure how he's done his, maybe scripted? But in any case, a doesn't-need-updating-all-the-time one has already been done, so unless ya just really want to make one of your own for learning purposes...

I will have to actually look into Twallan's, it sounds like it would do what I want to do, because yes, while I would like to learn how to create these mods myself (I'd preferably like to be proficient in Scripting mods, XML tuning, Object Mods and Core mods) I realize that no one person really needs to be able to do all of that. If anyone knows the answer I would still like to know how it's done, but I will look into Twallan's work until I figure it out. Thank you.

You could just ask the developer as well, I hear they are more than amiable to explaining what the scripting does in their mod.
Though it is preferable if you ask over at their hosting site. :)

I posted basic instructions for modifying the Sims3Effects resource here (http://modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3382631&postcount=7) (both for hexedit and changing it with S3PE).
I should add that the resource to modify is Sims3Effects (0xEA5118B0-0x0051185B-0xAE1859FADE0A9056) in [Sims 3 folder]\GameData\Shared\Packages\DeltatBuild0.package.
Please note that "Grid" will only work correctly if you have the s3pi-wrappers (http://code.google.com/p/s3pi-wrappers/) from Atavera, which add support for the _SWB resource type among others.
The No Mosaic that I update for each patch (if necessary) is a simple override of the effects resource. Twallan's approach is a scripting mod.
