View Full Version : Perfectionist trait makes for lousy inventors? Or is this a bug?

I have a sim with the perfectionist trait that had maxed out handiness, so I decided to try his hand at inventing. He has gotten up to level SIX in inventing and has only managed to discover one invention (a toy cow that he got mid level 3 or 4) He has spend hundreds of scrap up on the invent command at the bench, which he's been going almost nonstop for days.

The only other sims I had inventing in my games were eccentric and handy and they discovered all sorts of inventions by level 6. I'm wondering if not being eccentric or handy and being a perfectionist to boot is seriously slowing him down or if there is some sort of bug that is keeping him from discovering anything.

Well i've always had bugs with inventing, no idea whether it was just my game or not. Perhaps the lack of handy or eccentric is the cause for the slow discovery? But I don't really see how being a perfectionist could realistically prevent speed of discovery, but saying that...it wouldn't surprise me lol

Perfectionists cook, paint, sculpt and I maybe clean slower as well. They do things more slowly, but when they do it it's better quality. I think maybe there's a chance that inventing is slower as well, even though there is no quality improvement -- the price could be higher though.

actually perfectionists take longer in doing things so take longer in inventing things....... they will get there eventually..... and they will probably be improved widgets

Bleah. So far, he's only made a cow. My eccentric sims would have made tons of widgets, one big invention and probably one or two improved widgets by now. Perfectionists are going to be banned from the invention tables in my game. The time they take and the scrap they waste isn't worth it.
