View Full Version : Garden Plants in CAW ...

So, I was able to enable all the base game garden plants in CAW (there are 12 of them I could find in the data files). But I cannot seem to get the WA plants to show up. I followed Simsample's tutorial on enabling content for CAW useage.
Can anyone help me with this? What option needs to be turned on in Grid, or added?
I apologize if this is in the wrong spot.
Thanks for any help :)

Could you post the files of the WA plants you modded here so that I can take a look?

Let me upload them quick to Mediafire :) I'll upload the base game ones too.

Ok, here you go. It's in 7Z format. I've included the WA plants pkg files and the Base Game plants pkg files, as well as the extracted objd files for all of them. I could not find objd files for the money tree, the death flower or the omni plant. I looked but I also couldn't find files for carrots or plasma fruit. It would be nice to have a full compliment, even if we didn't have the specialty quest plants, like Egg plant, Hamburger plant, Links plant or Steak plant. I'm going to assume those are actually a specialy coded variation on the omni plant.
Thank you :)

Hey Mik, the Money tree, omni plant and death flower are all in the FullBuild0 (and Deltabuild0, not quite sure why there's two versions) of the basegame files. I don't know where the carrots or plasma fruit plants are, but someone has liberated them for use in-game here:
http://www.modthesims.info/d/450575
So you may be able to mod those to show up in CAW. They are scripted items though instead of straight OBJD mods, so perhaps there's some reason for the creator having done that (you could always ask in that thread), so perhaps that will explain why we can't find them.
For getting them to show up in CAW, it seems that the Build category flags are incorrect- I notice you've flagged them as 0x00001000 which should be Trees according to GiLaNg's original tutorial here:
http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Sims_3:0x319E4F1D#Unknown7
However, that seems to be flagging them as Rugs. So try setting the build flags to 0x00000800 (trees) instead, and if that doesn't work then play it safe and flag them as 0x00008000 (Landmark) which does definitely work.
What I'm guessing is that something has changed in the OBJD format somewhere (remember how the spawners and trees in CAW all used to show up in their own category in CAW, and then suddenly they didn't?) so perhaps my tutorial and the wiki will need editing. :)

Thanks Simsample! I knew it had to be something easy like that :) I hadn't tried setting the flags to 0x00008000. I'll try both the 8000 and the 800 and see if that works. What is REALLY strange is that all the base game garden plant objects worked just fine with the 1000 setting but the others would not. Go figure :P
Also, thanks for the heads up on the money and omni plants. Once I get these all working in CAW and I test to ensure that they don't die when not on a lot (thus leaving dead plants after a week or so and curtailing their CAW usefulness) - I'll post them for download here :)

Out of curiosity, where in metadata did the basegame plants show up, i.e in the main section or effects, trees etc.? I'm not sure where 'rugs' is in CAW!

They showed up under Game Objects -->Environment.

hey, you know something? I'm a total idiot. I hadn't searched for my installed plants by NAME - just typed in Auto and Plant and Tree. I JUST tried typing in GRAPES to my CAW meta data search bar and guess what? They are all there. Nice as you please. and they are named like they are in game. I expected the funky naming convention like the base game items.
I'm so sorry for wasting your time, Simsample. What a kerfuffle I got myself into!
Well, I'll try to find the carrots and plasma fruit now, anyway. Thank you for all your help :) I really appreciate it!

Oh wow thank you for the file with things, and am glad you did find them!
Am thrilled to be able to put garden plants outside of lots!

I found the Omni plant, the Money Tree and the Death Flower bush. I still have not found the Carrot plant or the Plasma Fruit bush.
I'll get the last three I've got up to speed w/ everything else and re-upload the files so they are all in one place.

Ok - I've got everything - including the carrots and plasma fruits. We'll see how they stack up and shake out. Like i said, I'm not extracting the steak/links/egg plant since it's a quest item :)
I'll get this test-world ready for export later this afternoon and see if I can get anyone to stress test these plants for me - see if they die.

Alrighty - Cannot get carrots and plasma fruit to show up in CAW. BTW - I extracted them from the download you linked, Simsample, so they may be entirely unsuitable to doing this with.
But at least I have everything else accounted for. I want to test this out and make sure the plants placed in the world are persistent (ie, they don't die) before I get things tidied up for listing :)
But for now ... I didn't sleep AGAIN last night, so it's nap time for me :P
[EDITS .... Later that day :P]
Ok, I've been looking around and I've found out that the Carrot and Plasma fruit ARE in CAW, they just aren't working, nor are they named right.

When looking at a base game plant, there are only 3 TGI slots. But with the Carrots and Plasma Fruit files I extracted from the modded files - there are 4.
It would really help if they would post on their thread and let me know how they got them LOL!

Okay, I'll be ready to test when you are, Mik! :)

Hmm - WA plants have 4 TGI slots too - so that's not it.
I'll release Garden Test for testing with all the base game + WA autosoils placed in any event so I can release those files as a download when stability has been verified.
I'll have Garden Test on my mediafire list later this evening.

There is the download for Garden Test world. It has all the garden plants I could get working in CAW. I tested it a bit last night myself for a few sim days. The death plant dies after picking the flower, as always. I don't know if the bush will regenerate or not. Everything else seems pretty stable so far though.
Download it and test it out if you would like - please let me know your results :)

Hey Mik, I ran the world for 5 sim weeks and the plants were fine. My sim harvested them several times during the course of the experiment, and all plants were still alive at the end (except for the death flower, as you noted). He was also able to feed and harvest the omni plant.
So I think these work just fine placed in-world!

Unfortunately, the house did not fare so well, and this is what it looked like after five weeks of Sim Sample and his family living there:

I'm going to gussy things up and get them uploaded by tomorrow evening then.
Thanks for the testing :)
