Since I want to use the existing sofa table meshes, wouldn't hall tables be redundant?

Besides being a bit taller and not being eaten by the wall, there's no difference from the sofa table.
So what can I do to make them different and worth downloading? I played around with a couple of ideas (adding a mirror, adding a drawer) but *blah*. Neither of those seemed good enough. I may try the drawer idea again. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance. :)

What about cupboards? They could then be used as console tables as well?

Something like this?

It's still very rough. The little shelves probably need to be lower and the mirror should probably have some kind of support. I think I like it. (It sure looks better than my first try, lol.) Hmmm..yeah. Looking at it now, some kind of supports for the mirror part and lower (maybe wider?) for the little shelves.
btw- there's still plenty of room for stuff to fit on the slots. Those little shelves look deeper than they really are.

Do you mean supports going from the sides of the mirror to the shelves? That would look really good I think. Would it be possible to have wicker type baskets or boxes on the shelf underneath? Or even the ones on top having a drawer inserted into it? Or is it in the too hard basket? I'm just throwing out ideas, wouldnt have a clue whats involved in making objects! ;) Looking at it some more, what about the mirror being on a slight lean, again dont want to give you too much work just chucking some ideas! :heyhey:

I was thinking cupboards underneath but I like the suggestion above re baskets. Whatever you do it'll look great!

ekrubynaffit: That's exactly what I meant about the supports. :) Wicker baskets.. I happen to have some of those, lol. So I'll see what I can do with them. If that doesn't look right with this table, it'll look right with another one. About the mirror being on a slight lean- after the supports are added: absolutely.
karen lorraine: That's what I thought you meant and that's how the little shelf things came to be. I tried putting one underneath and couldn't get it to look right. I think that's because of the table legs. I saved a copy of the first shelf so I can try play around with adding it to different tables. (Sometimes I DO think ahead, lol!)
*runs off to play in MilkShape*
edit: I just might be getting somewhere here! Hopefully it works and I'll have a real, in game pic soon.
edit 2: !@#$$% There is a reason I've only done 1 mirror!! *ugh* I totally screwed up the version I was working on and had to start again. All that's left is to get the mirror in the right place. Pic(s) later-after-I-get-home-from-work-ish. :)

It's later-after-I-get-home-from-workish, right? (Never mind the fact that I've been home for almost 11 hours, lol.)
Pics first..

Obvious issues:
The mirror needs moved down. I changed a few things and must've used the old mesh. Since the mirror is actually lower than the table I just didn't notice that until I checked it out in game. (I worked on this for a bit after work, had the mirror in the right place.. broked it today, started over..*sigh*)
The shadow and lack of wall shadows- those are always the last thing I do. (Because I hate shadows!) I honestly don't know why the ground shadow is so dark since I used the same one I edited for the sofa table.
What I'm not sure about:
The knobs on the supports- originally they were oval. I wanted to try a simpler (lower poly) shape. They're kind of big because I wanted them to be noticable. Should they be smaller? Should I lower the polys on the oval ones and use them instead? (Which I planned on doing so they could be used on other tables.) The knobs on the drawers were changed too. That was thanks to some of the recolors I already did- the originals just didn't look right with some of them.
The drawers- too tall maybe? Wider maybe?

It's coming along nicely, thanks, looking forward to seeing it finished.

I think those knobs will be fine, but what do they look like in the same colour wood as the supports? The drawers are good, whole things coming along nicely :)

Thankies karen lorraine. :)
ekrubynaffit- Those knobs. I want to throw those knobs out the window. Why? Because I don't really like them in the different wood color, but if I map them to the table then they kind of get lost. I'd like them to be noticeable- otherwise why have them there at all? What I could do is just make them (and the drawer pulls) their own subset (non-recolorable) in a nice, neutral off-white. If I did that i'd probably make them a bit prettier shapewise. (But white is so..so..blah.)
I added a frame to the mirror. It's mapped to the table and made a subtle change for the better. I'm really trying to NOT add anything else now though. Gotta think of the polys!

Could you make the knobs a metal colour gold, silver, bronze?

That's probably the best thing to do. I'll probably go with silver. :)

Im not really feeling the side things on the mirror, it looks like too much in a sense. Why not try extending the sides to where they meet the drawers.

You know, I think I agree. There's been something "off" to me with this table and that might be it. While the sofa tables are all the same, I don't see the hall tables being all the same. In fact, I think the Simple Structure table might look good with the side things. (When I get to that one, that is, lol.)

The Simple structure is the Quaint one, right? I think the side things would look better on that table if they had a curved side to it to make it more cozy looking. I know there is an EA item with what I am thinking of but I am too tired to go in-game to look.
Edit: i was thinking of the Country desk from Seasons. That would look nice on the quaint one instead of the one you made (no offense, they look good)

MLC, I just saw your thread so I hope you don't mind that I'm chiming in late! Your sofa tables are great so coordinating hall tables sound like a good idea to me. I'm not loving your latest mesh, though. Well, actually, I do like it but not for a hall table--it's looks more like a vanity right now so breaking up the symmetry like was mentioned seems like a good idea. The raised cubbyholes if you took off the fronts might look nice and would be a hit with clutter lovers so maybe one off to the side instead of two or maybe even a longer, thinner one centered would work.
As for new ideas, when I think of hall or foyer tables I think of thin or half sized tables as they don't take up that much room in narrow spaces. I know Morphead made some 1/2 tile cabinets (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=451700) for small bathrooms that were pretty popular so maybe people might like something similar for their foyers?
Another idea that's always great are one tile conversions...with a shelf underneath for more deco? And maybe a coordinating wall mirror instead of one that's attached so it can be used with the sofa tables in the living room as well. Actually, a one tile hall table could probably be used as an end table in the living room which would be nice.
That's all I have. :p Whatever you come up with I'm sure will be great and I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Honeywell: Chime in all you want! I've taken a break from the hall tables because I just wasn't feeling any love for them. And I do believe it's because the one I've done looks too much like a vanity. There's also the fact that I wanted to use a vanity as a base because of the mirror - I trashed that idea. I extracted and made basegame the Season's vanity just fine (for some reason the Uni one would disappear in live mode) but I really don't want to fool around with getting rid of unwanted behaviors and that.
Sooo.. I now wish I played Sims 3 so I could have those 1/2 tile cabinets-those are awesome. I'm gonna play around with the mesh some more. You and Levini have some pretty good ideas. (As soon as I finish up something fun I'm working on..something fun, very simple and kind of awesome.) Btw: You know there's going to be shelves- there HAS to be slots!! I'd slotify every shelf/shelf like mesh there is if I could, heehee.
