So, basically there's a cosplay convention in my area every year. I haven't been able to go because pretty much everyone's wearing cosplay and I don't want to look silly, so that's why I'm starting now. My main question here is: is it a bad idea to go as my own fan charater? I really want to go as my Star Wars fan character, Scadz, but I don't know if that would make me appear...vain? I don't know...
What do you think?
Thanks

I say, cosplay is more than dressing up as a character from a movie, manga etc... It's going beyond the norm to become an original fictional character. Granted, it helps to make him/her/it relate to something quite definitely, so if it's a Star Wars character, is it a Wooky or a Jedi or something of a recognizable race/character type? (pardon spelling... I'm not a big Star Wars fan) If someone can say, "O look, a wooky!" or "Which Jedi knight are you?" You've done your Cosplay. Granted some people might laugh and say you didn't stick to the rules of cosplay... some people might degrade you for it... but I say go for it! And there are many people, I think, that will admire your creativity and uniqueness! :3

Just so long as you don't fall under a category of annoying (aka don't glomp and bathe regurarly), you'll be fine. The only think I would say be causious of is cosplaying Naruto of your a hyper person you don't want to be qualified as a narutard (yes that is a fraze now days). Just make your cosplay charater the best you can. Cosplay isn't just about copying it is also about being unique.
(Been going to conventions I have accumilated 15 years of experiance)
