problems with sims mediaeval

Hello, and sorry if I've picked the wrong forum to post this. I have been playing sims mediaeval without any problems (except the crashing once a day or so) but today, whatever game I load, it comes up all pitch black. All you can see in the dark is the flames of torches and the bright bits in the water where there are fish, and in Kingdom view the icons for the various buildings. I didn't have any problems yesterday but today it's like this. Can anyone advise me on how to fix this?

EDIT: I have already tried rebooting. It makes no difference. The only thing I did different since the last time I played is that last night I was playing around a bit with XtraNormal.

Exactly. The TS3 help forum is here, (http://www.modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=551) although they might have a separate one for Medieval, might want to browse a bit before starting a thread there.
I will say this though, it may be problems with your graphics card, since it sounds similar to something I went through with TS2. Still, try and check for a solution there (you may not even have to start a new thread, just search first).
