:here: Concept:
In each round of this contest, you will be given a foundation on which to build a house. There are 4 different families looking for homes - one for each round. Using each family's unique requirements, you build a house on the round's foundation. You can pick any family for any round, but - obviously - you can't use any family more than once.

:here: Qualifications to Host:
I am have competed in the following contests: Superb Sibling Contest (http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=338188) (3rd), Maxis Makeover Sim Edition: Belladonna Cove (http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=337982) (4th), Agency Search: The Next Rising Star (http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=376013) (4th), Picture This! A Mini Contest (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=466033) (4th), MTS Official 2012 Calendar Contest: TS2 (http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=462106) (July) and hosted two contests: The TV Producer Contest (http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=347237) and The Aspiration and Me Contest (http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=338196). I previously ran this contest over at The Sims Circle (http://www.thesimcircle.com/showthread.php?t=880), and it was really good fun I just had to bring it here!

:here: Rules:

This contest is open to TS2 and TS3 entries.
There will be no eliminations.
Any/all custom content is allowed. There are no bonuses/penalties for CC use in any way. You can make a lovely home without it and get high marks!
You can use any/all EPs and SPs. The families are designed to be Base Game compatible - they have no pets, for example.
Photoshopping is allowed for tweaking/enhancing colour, sharpening and adding borders only.

:here: Requirements:

For each round, you need to build the house meeting the requirements of that particular family.
It is your decision which family lives in each house, so make sure you think carefully about which family will suit each foundation. You may want to leave the most adaptable family until last!
Please clearly state the family you have selected in your entry.
No family has a budget, but remember that mansions don't suit everybody!
You can only build in the foundation area, and you can build two floors. The second floor cannot go over the edge of the foundation in any way either.
Basements and separate or attached garages are not allowed. Driveways by themself are allowed anywhere on the lot.
The foundation template can be rotated any way (but not mirrored) and can be placed anywhere on the lot. Gardens (including paved areas) are not included in the foundation and can be placed anywhere.
For each round, you can take up to 8 pictures (no collages) - you must provide one external picture showing the front of the house, and one top-down picture of each floor of your house (max. 2) and the rest of the pictures can be of any rooms or areas of the house. You can make the families and take pictures of them living in the house, or you can just show off the house without Sims in it.

:here: Timeline:
Each round will last for three weeks, however the rounds will overlap by a week (so during the final week of each round the next round will also be in progress.) Extensions may be offered (of no more than 2 days) if they are desperately needed - however three weeks should be sufficient. The first round will begin when the contest is approved.

:here: Judging:
Each entry will be judged by 3 judges and each providing a score out of 25. The judges will mark on the follow criteria:

House design - 10 points: Does the house look and feel like attention and care has gone into its building and designing?
(Judges will consider breaking any rules such as the inclusion of external, detached buildings and basements etc. in this section and change their score accordingly.)
Foundation ingenuity - 5 points: as the foundation (and the way the rooms have been divided up) been used cleverly?
(0 points will be awarded from each judge if the foundation is not correct.)
Family requirements - 10 points: Does it look like the chosen family would like to live here? Have the requirements in the family bio been met?

:here: Family Bios:

The Barkworth Family - Mike and Meadow Barkworth both love the outdoors. They've always dreamed out having a beautiful log cabin home they can come back to after a long day of hiking and insect collecting. They would love for their house to be a traditional pine cabin, with a gorgeous fireplace in the living room. The bathroom(s) should be simple and in-keeping with the style of the house, and Meadow loves the idea of flowers, home-made quilts and decorations all throughout the house.
The Montenegro Family - Rain Montenegro is a struggling artist. Her house is filled with art projects in various states of completion, but she wants a studio in her house so she can escape the world and focus on her art. As for the rest of the house, simple, cheap furniture will do, as long as it's bright and colourful. Rain loves the colour green, but can't stand purple.
The Lewis Family - When Layton and Lucinda found out they were expecting it was the greatest day of their lives. When they found out they were having triplets? Not so much. Now their three daughters (athletic Lara, bookworm Leanne and musician Lorrie) are all teenagers, they are demanding their own rooms. Layton and Lucinda are happy to move, but want a large master bedroom and their own en-suite bathroom.
The Gravel Family - Tyler Gravel is a romantic, fitness fanatic and rising athlete. He wants his house to have a modern feel, and the wow factor that will impress all the ladies. A home-gym is a must, and a swimming pool outside would be his idea of perfection. Tyler also wants a guest bedroom for when his family fly in to town to watch his matches.

http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/1360/round1z.jpg

As a reminder, you can select any of the 4 families to build for in this round (as with all rounds.)
The foundation template can be rotated (but not mirrored) and can be placed anywhere on the lot.
Please remember to consider the contest rules and the family's requirements. Good luck!

This sounds like a lot of fun!

But I have a couple of questions...

1. We're allowed 2 floors within the space of the foundation - but do both floors have to be above the foundation, or can one be a basement?
2. I'm guessing driveways would be allowed as part of the garden/landscaping outside of the foundation space, but what about garages - are they allowed?

Croutonian... Basements are not allowed, and driveways are allowed, but garages are not.

This may sound a stupid question, but do we have to use the exact shape and size of the foundation picture you posted, or is it okay to tweak the sizes?

Just a quick question, sorry if it's a really stupid question, you said that the 2nd floor couldn't go over the foundation, does that include the roof? Can the roof 'overhang' and go over the foundations?

w_sims
16th Feb 2012, 03:33 PM
vhanster... the size must stay exactly the same, but you can rotate (not mirror) the foundation any way and place it anywhere on the lot. You can also use any size lot that you want.
flatpack... Nothing can overhang... your entire building must fit over the foundation. You can always use any spare space as decking or outside areas; and then put an overhanging roof over these areas.

Can decks and stages be added to the foundation? How about using boolprop constrainFloorElevation true/false cheat to flatten a wall to add more room to the house? In other words, it is technically possible to make a foundation-like structure without ever adding a foundation, just use walls instead.

Is there a lot size limit, or can it be whatever size we choose?

I'll volunteer to be a judge. You can check back through old contests to see I've both hosted and judged before.

Normally I would jump at the chance to do a contest like this but I just have too many other things I need to get finished that I don't think I'll have time for this too :/ I would however still like to join in the fun so if you still have vacancies can I please be a judge? (I would spend days on a build but can judge in a few hours so I'll have time for that :p )

Qualifications to judge: I've judged a couple of TS2 beauty contests and then judged two contests which I also hosted (Make Me a Model and Picture This!). I've also competed in a couple of TS3 contests including the original foundations contest (2nd place) and the calendar contest (Feb). I have a few houses uploaded and have also written two build tutorials.

I have been DYING for one of these.

Question: are we allowed to use friezes(like between floors 1 and 2) as long as they are inside the foundation frame?
Also, are we allowed to build three stories?

And.. (sorry about so many questions) Umm.. are we allowed to use CC, in this case Yogi-Tea's lower elevator for the friezes.

And... Are we allowed to edit the terrain under the foundation, like build it on a slope.

No, wgroome only allows a maximum of two stories.
Yes, you are allowed to use custom content and also allowed to build without it. Custom content or lack thereof has no effect on the scoring, in wgroome's words.

w_sims
17th Feb 2012, 01:45 PM
NollemD... no, you cannot add decking to the foundation (and therefore changing the foundation shape at all.) The building doesn't have to exactly fit round the edge of the foundation, though, and some areas can be left to become outside decking-like areas - but the foundation itself must remain the same shape, size and must remain foundation.

ForeverCamp... You can use any size lot you would like, however you can't build any external buildings such as garages or sheds (a paved outside garden area would be okay, though, for example, as long as there are no walls/roof!)

Riptide651... You can only have the foundation itself and two stories on top of that, so no, you can't have a third story. I'm not familiar with the piece of CC you have mentioned, but, as long as it doesn't not interfere with any of the building rules and you believe it suits the family you are building for there is no reason you cannot use it! As for altering the terrain under the foundation, that is fine.

kattenijin and missroxor... you are now judges! Thank you very much for offering to help! I still need an emergency judge, though, if anybody is interested.

This contest looks great. A question, can we change the height of the foundation?

w_sims
17th Feb 2012, 02:08 PM
aUserName... You can change the height of the foundation, but you cannot build a basement or use any other "trick" - as it were - to gain extra building space by using a tall foundation.

I can't believe I've never posted on the forums. I was notified on livejournal and decided to give the contest a go. Very excited for it!

I've chosen for the Montenegro family. It was very hard to take only eight pictures, though.

Rain Montenegro, the struggling artist has specialised in painting and pottery and her pots can be found everywhere, from dining room to bathroom. However, she loves green and greenery and makes flower bouquets for fun as well. Rain has a fondness for IKEA furniture.

Sry more questions :/

Does a frieze count as a story?

w_sims
19th Feb 2012, 01:16 AM
Yenkas... Thank you for the first - and I must say, a lovely - entry!

Riptide651... I am counting stories as they are counted in the game... foundation is not included as a level, then you get two levels of playable space and a three level for roofs (you can't have any useable space on this floor, so no roof top terraces on the third level!)

My first time doing one of these! Here is my entry for round 1, the Barkworth family.
Here is the front of the house. The lot is completely surrounded by pine trees. They have a porch swing on the front porch.

Kitchen. Mike and Meadow eat at the counters on days when it's yucky outside. They prefer to eat outdoors most days.

I built the first foundation for Rain Montenegro:

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/Streetview.jpg

I envisioned Rain to be a carefree, slightly-eccentric sort of artist, so her home has plenty of bright, mildly-mismatched colour schemes and writing and drawing on the walls throughout the main level of her home.

I'm pretty proud of that kitchen and studio, I'm not going to lie. I had a lot of fun designing the colour scheme for that one.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/Kitchen2.jpghttp://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/Studio2.jpghttp://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/Studio3.jpg

Rain's living room loft and bedroom are both a little less... splashy than the kitchen area, but still have lots of colour to inspire her artwork:

I think I'm actually going to leave that house where it is in Pleasantview - I like it for a future resident.

aaries16, ForeverCamp... Thank you for two more awesome entries. My favourite part of this challenge is that everyone doesn't have to pick the same family every round, which means that every round we get to see some really clever uses of the same foundations, and yours are no exception!

Dear Mr and Mrs Barkworth,
Thank you for registering with our real estate agency. We have a new listing today which I think would be just what you're looking for. It's a modern take on a log cabin, maybe not as traditional as you were looking for but it has some real advantages over that style. Firstly it has large windows and lets in a lot of light as well as great views of the outdoors. Secondly it has room for a small seating area on each floor at the front of the house and a good size garden with fruit and veg patch, hot tub and eating area. The house is situated next to a park too so perfect for outdoor lovers.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-30.jpg
The ground floor contains a small hallway with spiral staircase. To the left is a front-to-back living room with focal point fireplace. There are patio doors at the back giving easy access to the garden.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-39.jpg
To the other side of the hallway is the dining room with eating area and cabinet.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-38.jpg
Past the dining room is a small W.C. and fully equipped kitchen.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-36.jpg
Upstairs provides a master bedroom with ensuite shower room and small walk-in wardrobe.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-31.jpg
The main bathroom has been decorated in keeping with the home using timber panelling. It boasts a large bath and his & hers sinks.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-35.jpg
There is a second double-bedroom which would be perfect for guests.
Floor Plans:

First Floor
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-41.jpg
Despite the modern design the interior has been decorated in a traditional style and would feel as homely as any log cabin. Most rooms, if not using the original timber cladding, have wooden panelling and wallpaper bringing some colour into the house. It is a house designed for lovers of the outdoors!

I don't usually build with foundations so this is quite new to me. I am doing the Barkworth Family.

Outside the house is a small pond, a vegtable patch and a little table for eating outside on. It also has a little fire pit if you ever want to warm marshmallows in the firelight. It has a blacony to look out onto the trees and pond.

Are we allowed to build an external structure (not a garage), like stables?

w_sims
20th Feb 2012, 11:26 PM
Riptide651... as I said earlier:
... you can't build any external buildings such as garages or sheds (a paved outside garden area would be okay, though, for example, as long as there are no walls/roof!)This includes stables.

Does an awning count as a roof?

w_sims
21st Feb 2012, 12:07 AM
aaries16... If it fits on the foundation, you can have an awning attached to your building to provide some shade over outside decks or porches. You can't have a completely detached awning in the garden, though.

It's been a long time since I've been in a contest, and even then I've only been in 2 or 3, I believe. Forgive me for poop graphics and messups haha!

Without further ado, I welcome you to The Barkworth Family's home!

First, frontal and bird eye's view of the home:

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx11/noteardrops/7.jpg

http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx11/noteardrops/8.jpg

Let's take a tour of the inside, shall we?

The Entry room:
http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx11/noteardrops/6.jpg
Notice Mrs.Barkworth's quit, handmade, and the wooden stools made by our very own Mr. Barkworth. The couple together are very outdoorsy and hands-on, and like to have their tools within reach of the front door for easiness.

The Living Room:
http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx11/noteardrops/4.jpg
More of Meadow's lovely quilts also hang in the living room, where they do most of their entertaining. Mrs. Barkworth is has a flowerbed outside that she often picks flowers from and displays throughout the house. A cozy fireplace is the centerpiece of the room, and to the left Mr. Barkworth's insect collection boasts his hiking adventures.

The Dining Room/Kitchen:
http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx11/noteardrops/3.jpg
Neither Meadow or Mike are very good chefs, so they prefer a smaller kitchen and a small dining table for their intimate dinners. Meadow chooses to grow her own herbs and vegetables, and to also can them by herself, which you might notice on the counter - Neither of them are very organized either!

The Bathroom:
http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx11/noteardrops/5.jpg
Continuing on with the theme of their love for the outdoors, Mike also has a special soft spot for the water and Meadow finally let up on the decoration of the bathroom, so that is what he chose: An underwater theme. Childish and fun, it displays Mr. Barkworth's personality very well.

Mr. & Mrs. Barkworth's Bedroom:
http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx11/noteardrops/2.jpg
Shown here is where all Meadow and Mike's magic all happens! ;) As you can see, another one of Mrs. Barkworth's quilts are displayed and more of her lovely fresh flowers! Her old-fashioned sewing machine sits in the furthest corner of the room, close to Mike's collection of souvenirs from his latest hiking escapades. A sliding door steps out to a small closed in patio that holds a rose trellis and a bench. Meadow very much enjoys taking a break from quilt making and getting a breather while lounging on the bench.

That's it, folks!! Hope you enjoyed Mike & Meadow's cozy home!

You will just lose the 5 foundation points available from each judge. 3 other good entries and it shouldn't make a massive difference to your score!

Rain is planning to put her painting skills to productive use by entering the toy industry and crafting toys; thus, a special room for crafting toys is added. A cheap art gallery is where Rain can place her finished art projects. The art gallery can serve as a room of inspiration for times when she has artist's block. For fresh air, Rain can simply walk out to the balcony from the gallery.

Round 2 will open tomorrow - and will be open for the next three weeks. Round 1, however, will still be open for another week (closing on 7th March) so if you haven't joined there's still plenty of time to enter, and you won't have fallen behind!

As a reminder, you can select any of the 3 families to build for in this round that you have not yet built for.
The foundation template can be rotated (but not mirrored) and can be placed anywhere on the lot.
Please remember to consider the contest rules and the family's requirements. Good luck!

Round 1 will close in a week's time (07/03/2012) and Round 2 will close on 21/03/2012,
so you still have plenty of time to join the contest if you haven't already.

Hello! :) I've almost finished my round 1 entry, but before I post it I have two questions for you. You mentioned that awnings are not allowed to hang out over the foundation, but what about a window seat? It functions the same as a normal flat window (it has no extra interactions), but it does poke out a little bit. Also, I was wondering if half walls were allowed to be used on the terrain outside of the foundation. I assumed they were because they're basically the same as a fence (no roof and what not), but I thought I'd check first. I'm not creating an extra room with it or what have you, it's merely functioning as the railing by the stairs.

w_sims

Buckley... as bay windows are just windows, they are allowed to hang over the foundation yes (however they must be actually bay windows, and not ones created from normal windows and walls. As for half ways, if they are used in place of fences that is perfectly ok! :)

The Lewis Family:

Layton and Lucinda are busy working parents. Between his erratic schedule as an ER doctor at the city's main hospital and Lucinda's hectic days of meetings and phone calls as the vice president at a major corporation downtown, they still have to drive Lara to her soccer games, pick up Lorrie from band practices, and pry Leanne out of the library. Living out in the suburbs far from the girls' school and their jobs, some days it felt like they practically lived out of their cars.

So, they made a choice. They decided to sell their home, pack up their belongings, and move to a house in the city. Sure, it's a bit smaller than they're accustomed to; that's part of the trade off. But the opportunity to actually sit down and eat dinner with each other every night made it all worth it. Layton and Lucinda still managed to find a house with a sizable master bedroom and enough space to give each of the girls their own room.

The Exterior:

A historic, detached house on a corner lot, it may be small but it's roomy enough.

Second Floor Layout
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-122-1.jpg

Kitchen and Dining Room:

While it's an older home, it's been recently renovated with a slightly modern edge. They left some of the original details such as the exposed brick wall in the kitchen and dental crown molding throughout the downstairs.
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-103.jpg

Living Room:

The living room is open to the kitchen and dining room. The Lewis' have added their own personal touches throughout the house.
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-99-1.jpg

Lara's Room:

Lara may be the most athletic sister, but that doesn't mean she can't like pink. In fact, she's mildly obsessed with the color, and despite being tougher than nails on the soccer field she's quite a girly girl the rest of the time.
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-95.jpg

Leanne's Room:

Leanne loves to read. She gets lost in stories of far off places and daring adventure, but no book quite captures her imagination like the story of Alice in Wonderland. Her bedroom decor reflects her passion for the "other Lewis".
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-82.jpg

Lorrie's Room:

Lorrie and her guitar. The two have rarely been separated for the past few years. She enjoys loud colors almost as much as she enjoys loud music.

Mkay, so I generally can't stand modern houses. I did this as a kind of challenge to myself, to make a modern house which wouldn't immediately make me want to go hug a bespoke fireplace or something. I think I succeeded.

The Gravel Family
Tyler Gravel, up-and-coming sportsman (though good luck figuring out which sport he plays from the somewhat ecclectic collection of memorabilia in his house), is all about style. His house has a contemporary, sunny feel to it, accented by carefully manicured greenery; and is fully equipped for the life of a debonaire young bachelor.

http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34627_120301070430Front.jpg

Ground Floor
The ground floor hosts the centre of the house: the open plan kitchen/living/dining room, with plenty of space for entertaining - although it must be pointed out that the baseball bat on the glass coffee table is for eyes only...
Across the hall is the gym, smartly equipped and complete with a small attached shower room. Privacy glass in the front windows ensures that passers-by can only see muscles, and not anything so detailed as sweat stains or tears of rage; while at the rear, sliding doors open onto the small covered porch and the huge patio - and also offer a handy way to air the place out when necessary.

http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34630_120301072904Floorplanground.jpg

First Floor
The first floor is dominated by Tyler's bedroom; a luxurious room with fantastic views over the two balconies - one ornamental, and one functional, the latter equipped with a small breakfast table and a telescope (for spying on the other guys' training sessions, you see). The master bathroom comes equipped with a corner tub and shower and, in one of the earlier pics I took, a mysterious bathing woman. She clearly vanished back down the plughole before I got to taking floorplan shots. The spare bedroom sports (ha! geddit?!) a fold-away double bed, so the room can be converted for use as, well, almost anything, once Tyler's family have gone home; and with a conservatory window, even this small room feels spacious (and it has blinds, too, so Tyler's little siblings can be concei... yeah let's not go there).

http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34631_120301073329Floorplanfirstfloor2.jpg

Outside
No-one can be a half-way decent sportsman without having a love of the outdoors, and Tyler is no exception. The garden is low maintenance, and has plenty of space for victory celebrations - not to mention starting five BBQ fires in the process of taking one fricking photo. The swimming pool, apart from being, well, a swimming pool, provides a beautiful backdrop to the living room, sparkling quietly through those tall windows.

http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34632_120301073929Outdoors2.jpg

Sports Facilities
Sticking with the outdoors theme for a moment, the house comes equipped with a netball hoop, so that Tyler can make all his friends feel terribly inferior. Through the window, the gym, and one of those "spot the person as they looked ten years ago" games - sorry, I mean a team photo - and other assorted memorabilia. There's nothing like staring at your old coach's scowling face to motivate you to keep pedalling.

http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34633_120301074412Gym-sports.jpg

The Kitchen
Moving back inside, the kitchen is all fancy and shiny, and perfectly equipped for looking after guests - whether that means knocking together a meal for his parents, or boozing it up with his mates out of the wine cooler (turn around! It's right behind the camera...)

http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34635_120301075008Kitchen2.jpg

The Living Room
At the other end of the room, the living area provides a stylish and comfortable setting for Tyler and his mates to watch "The Big Game" (that's a thing, right?); or, as the case may be, for being more concerned with making bases himself than watching other people do it.

http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34634_120301074605Living.jpg

The Bedroom
And, finally, the master bedroom - with warm and sophisticated decor, and lots of soft surfaces for some more... personal relaxation. The sound of the fountains on the ornamental balcony make for beautiful dreams; and if not, well, there's always the option of watching Badly Dubbed Porn at 3 in the morning (when the hell else would they air it?).

Good god, I have no idea how I'm going to manage to do the triplets family in 8 pics. o.O
I also have one question - which may turn out to be academic, but it'd be good to know anyway: are we allowed to switch games - to do some rounds using TS2, and some using TS3?

w_sims

whiterider... you can't swap between the games for you entries! As for the triplets family, you have 5 free pictures to work with (assuming you build two floors) so I would suggest highlighting your favourite areas or rooms that show of elements of the brief... You don't have to show off all of the girls' rooms, too... as long as the look good in the overhead, you can just show your favourite(s)!

OMG, these are my favorite contest/challenge/thingies. I loved the one I did on RealPollyMog's foundation (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=272926) and then again with my friends in #create (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=322588). It's been too long. I was thinking about starting one of these myself, but its way more fun to build than judge as I've recently found out. Though judging is fun too. And *technically* I'm not *officially* qualified to run a contest... whatevs.

Ok, I swear I wasn't copying Whiterider, I had this house built by yesterday afternoon but taking the pictures took me a lot longer and I couldn't get back to till for another 12 hours. I promise. I took one look at that silly octagon shape and thought it would be perfect for an in-ground hot tub. After trying it out in game I realized I needed a 5x5 space so that was out, but I really liked the half and half this house provided. White must have seen the same thing because our floor plans are nearly identical.

Let me introduce you to Tyler Gravel (in my game he's going by Jason Graham, after I made him he just looked more like a Jason). He's recently graduated college after having played on the basketball team every year. He joined the sports fraternity while he was there and he proudly displays his Greek letters on his house. He was recruited shortly after graduation so that accounts for the nice house and the nice car. He didn't want the fanciest car out there, because he knows the ladies think only self-centered boys drive Hunkas. He set up a hoop in his driveway to help keep himself grounded.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1276976-SportsHouse-FrontHoops.jpg

He loves having the guys over to watch the games, he usually can't get them to come watch the replays of his own games, but that's ok with him. He's got all his basketball trophys and memorabilia around him and he absolutely loves his big screen.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1276977-SportsHouse-GameNight.jpg

When his parents and little brother come into town for his games they have their own suite. His little brother has a day bed just inside the guest balcony so it can be used as a couch as well. He loves shooting hoops with his big brother outside, and even wins a few of the games (though Mom and Dad think Tyler/Jason is letting him win).
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1276978-SportsHouse-GuestSuite.jpg

His home gym is perfect for keeping himself toned. He has a full wall mirror so he can check out his muscles and fine tune his technique. Next to it he has a shower and a steam room where he can go to rinse down and relax. He enjoys the large windows and because they are half height, he doesn't have to worry about flashing the neighbors, though there is a hott little blond number down the street that secretly wishes he would - damn that's some fine abs!
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1276979-SportsHouse-HomeGym.jpg

He's finally got that pool he always wanted. Its great for keeping himself in shape and for working through injuries. It's also kick ass for summer cookouts. He likes to surf and snowboard when he isn't playing ball so you can find some of that sprinkled through the house as well. Just off the patio is a shaded relaxing porch, it is open to the backyard and has candles and a little fountain. All the deck furniture is teak so it can withstand the elements and looks pretty too.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1276981-SportsHouse-PoolYard.jpg

And lastly, what kind of bachelor pad would be complete without a swanky bedroom. He's got more romantic touches in his bedroom than most single guys, but then, he is a romantic, and he really likes touching ;)

And just something that was fun, Jason's One True Hobby is Sports, so my incarnation of him really really loves living here. He and the other three families will make lovely additions to Desdirata. Jason's house is right in between the Spark! Sports Park and the FreeTime Recreation Center. He's in heaven. :) It's now available for download as well (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=470696)!

I like this challenge since I always wanted to make houses for fun since I love decorating the inside but building them... not so much x,x.So here's my first entry, with the Montenegro family.

Tyler Gravel is sure the Sporty type, but he has a modern side as well. From his spacious bedroom to his swankin' new living room, to his detached gym, his home is bursting with a modern loft atmosphere. Outside is a wonderful exercise pool, with fountains pouring over it for decor. Out front on the rare granite driveway stands a mint-condition Shelby Cobra.

This house surely fits the gymnast, as well as brilliant interior to wow anybody who comes inside.

Tyler's comfy new couch and his top of the line home theater system is a must.

A little reading never hurt... Or did it? Where did the bookshelf go?

http://i.imgur.com/wrQWW.jpg

A roomy bedroom. Wow! Is that.. Is that a bed with stairs?

http://i.imgur.com/R8AoD.jpg

For when his family visits, Tyler's gym easily converts into a little bedroom, where he can stay while his parents occupy the Master bedroom. :) How nice...

NOTE: During the construction of this house, I realized I can use as much CC as I want, and since I don't use CC in my houses I upload, I decided to have a treat and go all out on the next few houses in this contest, especially round 3 and 4. I am happy to say that all of the furniture in this house except less than 10 pieces is CC.

... I'm...hmm... not sure what I am exactly! lol! At first I though the overlapping of rounds was a great way to fit the contest into the allotted time frame while still allowing plenty of time to do all the work. Now, I'm not so sure; because, as a judge I'm seeing things in the round two entries that bothered me in round one. They probably would have been changed by the contestants after receiving the judging notes. I really don't want to penalize the second round designs since they won't get the round one info for almost another week...

Well, I had a thought about that. Probably a bad idea, but I think it's worth mentioning. :) What if wgroome still gives us (the contestants) the foundation plan a week before the current round ends, but we aren't allowed to post our entry until the previous round's scores come in? That way we still have ample time to work on our lots, but it also ensures that we have the chance to look at our reviews before posting the final product.

I don't know. Maybe it's too complicated. I mean, that would be a lot of dates to remember. Well, it's just an idea. Either way (whether it's an official rule or not), it's probably wise to wait to see the scores before posting the next round. Although, to be honest I wouldn't have thought about it until reading your remark.

I covered up my chimney in the first round with walls so I could recolour it and was considering doing so again this round. Can I just clarify that it won't be counted as 'living space' - nothing (except the odd bird) live in chimneys and no more tiles have been used than the standard chimney would have used. I think the problem is that 'living space' hasn't really been defined. When asked about friezes, which in my mind are purely decorative, or on the same note, decorative walls which are not full height the answer seemed like a 'no' but these cannot be used as' living space'. Can we have a definitive answer on that? Even if they are purely used on the top of the house only?

I wanted to give myself a challenge and I chose Gravel family for the first round. I have not built modern in a long time, and the foundation seemed most unsuitable for modern - so of course I picked that for round one!

The house is an experiment in other ways too. Trying to keep within the given restrictions and requirements, the house may not be romantic in a way it would seem obvious. My Tyler loves strong colours that go together in a harmony. His home is kept clean, and he likes to collect art and enjoys taking care of his indoor plants. He found a statue of Simmene -the goddess of love and caring- on his trip to Rome, and it now watches over him in his livingroom.

Home gym is included of course, and I also gave him a pool and a hot tub. First floor contains the livingroom, kitchen and dining, and a big bathroom. There is also a small terrace with barbecue. Second floor hall is the exercise area, and leads to two bedrooms. Tyler's bedroom is a bit bigger, and has a desk for work and a little en-suite. The guest bedroom may be a bit smaller, but still has some room for seating, and a balcony too.

Right, so enough with the blabber, you probably want to see the pics too. Here you go!

sandy, since you're doing TS3, did you consider using armi's CAStable Chimneys (http://www.modthesims.info/d/432817)?

kattenijin, I thought of that - it's why I'm not going to post entries until the judging for the previous round is done. I can build the house, even take pics, beforehand - and then take any suggestons by the judges into account and tweak if needed. It's an easy solution, and I don't think we need to turn it into a rule; if particular people decide not to wait, because they're not going to be online during the "middle" week or just think their house cannot be anythng but perfect :p , then it's up to them to penalise themselves.

kattenjin, Buckley & whiterider... Obviously, I overlapped the contest rounds because I wanted each round to last for 3 weeks, but 12 weeks overall seemed like a little too long. I guess it entirely depends on how you want to do this contest; if you're in it to win it and want to appeal to the judges - you can wait until the judges give their scores and feedback. If you're in this contest just for the fun - or you just want to compete without aiming your entries towards the judges' tastes, you can submit your entries as soon as you are ready. So if it's okay, I'm not going to chance the rules for that reason. That way you can start building once the foundation is released, and then hold out for the judging if you want to tweak your entry to pick up some extra marks. If I'm honest, I haven't seen much that would require people to change their entries. I hope you all get what I mean by this, I'm not trying to imply that people who want their feedback are just trying to pander to the judges, but some people do just want to play along without really worrying about feedback or scores.

sandymdh... as for your fireplace, other people have left their fireplace uncovered. I will make sure the judge do not take off any points, however you may want to consider whiterider's suggestion for future rounds as, whilst your walls do not add any extra space, they still do overhang the foundation. This has nothing to do with them providing more "living space" - which for definition, is just any inside space created by full height walls, or balconies and porches etc. As for your friezes question, you can use half-walls instead in place of fences, but other than this all walls should be part of a room (they should fit together to make the edges of a home and combine to make the edges of the house) or sloped roof walls on the top floor (created as part of the roof tool.) I hope this explains it, but if you still aren't satisfied, PM me some screenshots of your idea in-game.

Decided to give this a try- for the first foundation I decided to make the house for Tyler Gravel. I wanted a lush feel as well as modern, since I built it on my tropical island of Morikipo (http://www.bakasims.com/custom-neighborhoods/a-mass-of-morikipo-islands) , so I used a lot of plants, and sionelle's African pattern set (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=469303). Also appearing are Armiel's DIY build set, her buy set, and hudy's modern line windows.

Front street view is highly landscaped, with a wild and overgrown style that contrasts with the tidy hedge walls:
http://i1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc389/bakafox/Sims%203/Contests/Foundations%20for%20Families/Screenshot-3.jpg

First floor, with the unique foundation shape- it has a side entry and a breezeway, with Tyler having his small gym in a sun room that is separate from the house, giving him a bit of private space to train should he ever settle down (no one's holding their breath, but in the meantime it also keeps that tracksuit fug out of the main living areas). The kitchen and dining area is small, with most larger parties held out on the back patio, which is vast, and helps make up for the rest of the gardens by ensuring no one has to bother mowing much lawn.
http://i1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc389/bakafox/Sims%203/Contests/Foundations%20for%20Families/Screenshot-2.jpg

Second floor has the blue guestroom, and a contemporary master bedroom and bathroom in brilliant colors, with exotic flowers to help the mood out a little more when a 'friend' stays over.
http://i1209.photobucket.com/albums/cc389/bakafox/Sims%203/Contests/Foundations%20for%20Families/Screenshot.jpg

The rear of the house has more, and larger, windows than the front does since there's open space behind instead of a street or neighbor's yard-- giving clear views of the landscape beyond.

Do we need to build on a foundation, or if we use the foundation's shape and size, can we just build it on the ground?

Mike and Meadow had always dreamed of a log cabin in the woods. So when they found this idyllic plot of forest for sale, they immediately snatched it up and began building their dream home.

A beautiful, homey cabin, nestled among the trees. With meandering trails out back, perfect for insect hunting, leading to the pond and a campsite.

If you have a steep-pitched roof, are dormers allowed for aesthetics as long as they are not livable space? (I am working with Uni+NL in TS2, I can't alter individual roof slopes or do the non-standard roof shapes.)

katalina522.... No, you can only have full height walls on the first two levels, the third floor walls can only be those created by the roof tools (i.e. sloped.)

Nervously entering my first contest here, trying to improve my very average building skills and this seems like a good way to do it. Not sure which was more challenging building the house or trying to take decent photo's of it, anyway it was very fun and I'm looking forward to trying the second round.

I choose Tyler Gravel for the first round. Contemporary Californian in style with clean lines and a modern feel, this spacious home features 2 bedrooms, 1 1/2 baths, home gym, eat in kitchen, living area, solarium and a full lap pool. The 2 car driveway allows for both Tyler's around the town sports car and his SUV for transporting equipment and teammates. In addition there is a small but fully stocked pond for recreational use and a massage area for taking care of those overused muscles or getting that special someone in the mood.

Mike and Meadow Barkworth both love the outdoors. They have a beautiful log cabin home at the ocean shore, that they can come back to after a long day of hiking and insect collecting. Meadow has decorated the house with a lot of home made items, and has restored a lot of furniture found from various second hand shops with Mike's help. While flowers do not grow well on sand, Meadow has still a lot of plants and flowers to take care from, and they are like babies to her.

The beauty of the nature, the relaxing feel of their home, and thousands of different bug species living on the shoreline make this house a dream home for Mike and Meadow.

The house is spacious for the two of them, and has enough room to entertain a few guests too, all though they would have to enjoy sleeping out in tents or so. But what is there to complain as the surroundings are pretty and the weather on the beach warm.

I suppose the round 2 foundation would have been more ideal for a big family, but meh, it called for this house on my case ^^

All other custom stuff by me except the paving on the pier terrace which is by Merrye Makers. Foundation has not been altered - just slammed on the shoreline. Playtested as usually.

Looking forward to see what kinda foundation you have for the next round xD

Round 2 Entry - The Lewis Family

I was going to wait and post it later but need to patch my game... you all know exactly what I mean... :-)
As you can see I wanted to make the fascia of my building look unusual but obviously don't have the luxury of being able to use extra walls, cfe etc so have 'cheated'. The front of the house was made using cc and a fence (the awesims cornice).

Recently purchased by the Lewis family, the Old Railway Hotel is now a luxurious family home.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-61.jpg
Built in the Victorian era next to a railway station, this building spent the next 100 years as a hotel. Layton & Lucinda Lewis fell in love with the crumbling old house and took a chance at auction, buying the property cheaply. After some initial structural work and a lot of decorating, their home is now ready for use. The couple were determined to keep the restoration faithful to it's Victorian heritage and spent many a weekend trawling reclamation yards picking up original pieces like radiators. Lucinda particularly prizes the stained glass window in the kitchen which she found on eBay! Their home also displays souvenirs and oddities picked up on their travels.
Entering the original reception of the hotel, the original tile flooring is the main focus. Hidden by a screen, the area now has use as a small study. The central area is now a family room and the lounge has been divided into two areas, one for television and the other for relaxation and use of the open fire.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-76.jpg
With 3 teenage daughters, the upper floor layout was perfect for the family, having 4 bedrooms, one with ensuite and the others with their own small dressing rooms. It also boasts a large bathroom.
Lara, the tomboy of the family, has decorated her room to reflect her love of sport.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-82.jpg
Leanne's room is a perfect reading space with plenty of shelving and cosy beanbag chairs. There is even a quiet reading area on the landing outside too.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-62.jpg
Lorrie's room is a reflection of her love of music, displaying posters and several musical instruments.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-64.jpg
The kitchen diner has been designed using the original cabinets and second-hand furnishings found in antiques auctions.
http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Competition/Screenshot-79.jpg
The original gardens were a task to tame as were very overgrown, the 'maze-style' garden especially. It is now a tranquil haven of relaxation.

I have shown the gardens on this picture as there are several bedroom close-ups here.

Here is my 2nd Round entry for Tyler Gravel. He's a successful young professional baseball player. In high school and college he also played basketball.

The first floor. Tyler has a huge master suite on the first floor. It has an attached bathroom and an attached hot tub/massage room. After the big games he needs a way to relax, plus the ladies love a hot tub and massage.

Upstairs in the hallway, Tyler displays his trophies. There are 2 rooms and 2 bathrooms upstairs. One is used as his gym and the other is the guest bedroom for when his parents visit.

For the first round, we at SimCity Realty present a simple Spanish Colonial-style condo (1BR, 1.5BA; §32,200) for Rain Montenegro, our struggling artist.
http://goo.gl/dg2ZS

Since Rain has professed a fondness for the color green, what better way to start off the motif than to have a house with lovely (and easy-to-maintain!) greenery out front?

Main Floor
Take note of the bright colors and open floor plan on the main level! As you turn right into the condo, you will find a modest-sized living area with doors connecting to the attached sunroom at the back of the house. This "extra" room is in slight disrepair, but the space gets plenty of light and, due to its closed-off setup, is ideal for use as a home office--or an art studio.

As you head left to go up the stairs, you will pass the half bath and the kitchen/dining area, which is equipped with all the basics and plenty of cabinet space. There is also a door for access to the front terrace, which is perfect for festive gatherings or for cloud-gazing and gathering artistic inspiration.
http://goo.gl/Pw2MM

Upper Floor
The upper level of the condo contains a sizeable master bedroom with a small attached bath (shower only--no tub). It is decorated in muted tones of green that create a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for inspiring pleasant dreams!

Rain has found this modest house, which she is leasing with an option to buy, on a small, hilly, cheerful lot on DIY Island (thank you Armiel!). She fell in love with the color and the charm (duh!), but the kicker was the second floor space: lots of east- and south-facing windows AND a large skylight? How could she pass this up? It would make a superb studio! And the walls with less windows would be perfect to display her favorite (or latest) works of art, in an at-home-gallery setting. The house might be small, but that upstairs space is all she really needs.

Main entrance:

Other side, showing that cute little bay extension; the back also has a small patio for her grill and relaxation when it's just too nice to stay indoors:
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-g4KnmCAfoqI/T1WMfso4lcI/AAAAAAAADnE/TEHZnDBDfSM/s800/Screenshot-334.jpg

Second floor layout: all studio (and gallery space), all the time.

Just off the small entrance, the kitchen is easily accessible to the laundry, through arches around which Rain has some of her favorite line drawings displayed.:

2nd floor studio and gallery - From the Artist's perspective... a changing area and seating for models to pose. You can see some of her art on the wall: she uses part of the space as a gallery: Lots of windows AND a skylight provide ample lighting for work nearly any day.

First round entry - Lewis family.

Moving to Simville wasn't exactly what Layton and Lucinda Lewis wanted, but their three teenage daughters demanded a room of their own. Each.
Considering the sorry state of sim-economy these days and the exorbitant prices of real estate, they decided on this little town house. It was affordable. When the fuss of the moving settles, they'll hopefully see that both Simville and their new house have their charms.
http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s466/marija_spanjic/MTS_Contest_townhouse-Lewis_front-1.jpg

Unlike their 3-bedroom apartment in Sim City where they used to live, their new house has a siezable backyard, and finally they don't need to worry where, if at all, they'd be able to park their cars!
http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s466/marija_spanjic/MTS_Contest_townhouse-Lewis_backyard.jpg

--1st floor layout--
The entire 1st floor is reserved for daily family life.
Large living room has an enclosed study area, where Leyton placed his laptop, looking forward to the late night gaming sessions he so much loves.
Kitchen and dining take up another large chunk of the 1st floor - ideal for family dinners or even for entertaining guests, should they so desire.
One of the bathrooms is conveniently placed next to the entrance because let's face it, sometimes a Sim's bladder can't wait for a Sim to run to the opposite end of the house before an accident happens.
http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s466/marija_spanjic/MTS_Contest_townhouse-Lewis_layout-1stfloor.jpg

--2nd floor layout--
Upstairs is reserved for the bedrooms.
Each of their teen drama queens gets one of their own - not big, but comfy enough.
The master bedroom, rather large for a house this small, sports its own enclosed bathroom, a fact that made Lucinda very happy and probably closed the deal on the house.
The girls have to share a bathroom, or use the downstairs one - a fact that made Lucinda both giggle and shudder in anticipation of their future fights over who gets to use it first and for how long. One thing is for sure though: they certainly won't be using hers!
http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s466/marija_spanjic/MTS_Contest_townhouse-Lewis_layout-2ndfloor-1.jpg

A moment in life of the Lewises #1.
Layton is the chef of the family, and as such he is extremely pleased with his new kitchen. The color scheme is soothing and tranquil - ideal for good ingestion and almost guaranteeing that the family will have some nice meals in here. Unless the girls insist on their unnecessary and never-ending diets.
http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s466/marija_spanjic/MTS_Contest_townhouse-Lewis_kitchendining.jpg

A moment in life of the Lewises #2
Leanne's room. Shy and quiet as she is, Leanne prefers to spend time on her own, and now she has a space to do it in. She used to share bedroom with Lorrie, who constantly listened to music or huffed rather loudly while dancing. Not anymore!
Leanne stocked her shelves with her favorite books, put up her favorite posters and finally had a place for the TV her father gave her for her birthday. Plus, having a big desk in a room of her own means she'll have a place to write. And Leanne wants to be a writer when she grows up.
http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s466/marija_spanjic/MTS_Contest_townhouse-Lewis_bedroom-Leanne.jpg

A moment in life of the Lewises #3
Lorrie's room might not be big, but it's hers and hers alone. Finally she can listen to music and practice her dancing somewhere where her annoying bookworm of a sister won't yell at her every other second to be quiet! So that's what she did immediately after they moved in - turned the volume up on her stereo and danced.
Until her father called her for breakfast. Doesn't he know that, as a future prima balerina, she needs to watch her calories?! Of course he doesn't. Parents!
http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s466/marija_spanjic/MTS_Contest_townhouse-Lewis_bedroom-Lorrie.jpg

A moment in life of the Lewises #4
Lara is very pleased with the new house and the new town they moved to. Not only is her bedroom here bigger - big enough for the new excercise bike her mother gave her for her last birthday - but the house also has a basketball court! Yay! Plenty of wall space in her room for her sport paraphernalia and a bed to crash into after a long day of excercise - Lara never asked for more where her room is concerned.
http://i1053.photobucket.com/albums/s466/marija_spanjic/MTS_Contest_townhouse-Lewis_bedroom-Lara_2.jpg

That's it, guys! This is my first contest and I hope I did everything right.
I've built a house not unlike those I ordinarily use in my hoods - small and not over-stuffed. In fact, Lewises and their new townhouse just moved in my hood and are as of today residents of Simville. I'm looking forward to playing them :)

Simsica... You don't have to build two floors if you don't want to.

jadoureux & lipe2k (and everyone, I guess).... I will extend the contest by one day. It will now close at 11:59:59 GMT on 8th March. I really can't extend past this because some people are waiting for their Round 1 feedback so they can work on their Round 2 entries.

(An jadoureux, please try not to double post and simply edit your entries if you want to ask another question after you've already submitted your post.)

First Round - Rain Montenegro

External shot:

http://i40.tinypic.com/m9qgt5.jpg

Ground Floor (1st Floor for those in America):

http://i41.tinypic.com/9u16hl.jpg

The ground floor is spacious and open plan, with a kitchen-dining area to one side.

http://i41.tinypic.com/287i046.jpg

The living area is separated from the kitchen-diner by a pillar decorated in Rain's favourite colour, of course.

http://i42.tinypic.com/2zocklk.jpg

Rain's studio has full length windows for maximum lighting and inspiration. It's rather messy and displays some of her work.

http://i42.tinypic.com/345eu03.jpg

The rest of the ground floor contains a fish tank, a desk with a computer and lots of Rain's art work.

First Floor (2nd in America):

http://i40.tinypic.com/23hltgp.jpg

The first floor contains three rooms: Rain's bedroom, a little reading room and a bathroom.

http://i44.tinypic.com/10r1zld.jpg

Rain has a table in her bedroom for those late-night ideas which simply can't wait until the morning. The walls display lots of her artwork and also her favourite works by other artists.

http://i42.tinypic.com/eqp6xk.jpg

This is an overhead shot of the reading room and bathroom. As you might have already guessed, Rain's not very neat, and the stacks of books on the floor reflect that. There are also shelves displaying more of her favourite pieces of artwork.

Hi, I managed to make the whole thing this afternoon, now I'm in big trouble in college but that's fine :lol:

I've chosen The Montenegro Family. In my neighborhood, Rain moved into a very old house, but changed all the interiors to suit her taste and lifestyle. I wanted to create a contrast between outside and inside, and I hope you like it :D I have a very close friend who is an artist, and her tomboy-clumsy-personality inspired me to create my neighborhood's Rain Montenegro!

Tyler is doing well in the athletic field but still has a way to go before he can afford the mansion he wants. In the meantime, he's living it up in this 2 bedroom, 2 bath home with pool, jacuzzi, and observation deck.
http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/triciamanly/frontofhouse-4.jpg
Tyler will keep in shape by swimming in his backyard pool, working out in his little home gym, and trimming the many hedges around the property.
http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/triciamanly/poolandjacuzzi.jpg
Although small, the living areas on the first floor are large enough to accommodate visitors, and Tyler has his bedroom and bath conveniently located just steps from the front door and the pool.
http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/triciamanly/firstfloor-15.jpg
When family comes to visit, there is a bedroom with twin beds and bath on the second floor. The bedroom opens on to a sundeck with stairs up to rooftop observation deck.

Ummm, Sims40841, your pictures arent showing up, try uploading them on imgur.

Also, wgroome, does an overhang count as not creating the foundation correctly or is it a normal broken rule, for which points will be taken off in house in house design? And if it is a normal broken rule, just about how many point will be taken off?

I thought it would be interesting to use the most challenging family in round 1. This foundation seemed smaller than the one for round 2. Since I consider myself the queen of the "cracker box" house, this was a fun challenge.

I'm really happy with how this house came out. There seems to be a lot of space for Tyler to roam in. I thought the terrain paint worked out well for the pool area as I have Gunmod's lights installed and it does weird things to pools surrounded by flooring.

Wow, that's a lot of new entries to wake up to!

katalina522... I will allow people who have already submitted Round 2 entries to change their entry once this time, but for the other rounds, once you have submitted your entry then you cannot change it in any way.... That's why some people are waiting for their feedback before posting their second round entries. We discussed it in posts 55-57 and 59-60.
Riptide651.... overhang is included in the not building the correct foundation criteria, and as such, 0 points will be given for the Foundation Ingenuity section if there is overhang on your building or your foundation is incorrect (except for covered chimneys in a few peoples entries, which the judges and I are allowing for the first round only as the rules were unclear before the submitted their entries!)

Sims40841... those pictures are far too small for us to be able to judge your house at all! I'll keep your name on the list for now, but you're going to have to change them by the deadline otherwise I don't think we can accept that as an entry. Sorry. There are lots of tutorials on MTS that can help you take bigger, better pictures.

The Barkworth Family.

Dear Mike and Meadow Barkworth,
After reading your family description, I think we've found a great match for you.

This is a quaint log cabin. Small but spacious. Have a look at the photo's for further details.
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll90/hazzybabes-xo/snapshot_00000001_5c651dcf.jpg
A two storey cabin, with a balcony. Surrounded by forestry, its the perfect setting for an adventurous couple. And with the large pond in the back garden, fun is right at your (back) door!
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll90/hazzybabes-xo/snapshot_00000001_bc651be5.jpg
On the ground floor, we have an open living room and kitchen, a bathroom and a water closet.
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll90/hazzybabes-xo/snapshot_00000001_9c651d35.jpg
The bath is in a separate room to the loo, to ensure you get to fully relax your muscles after a hard day exploring! Comes equipped with a large bathtub made of all natural materials, and counters that match the kitchen counters.
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll90/hazzybabes-xo/snapshot_00000001_9c651c9a-1.jpg
The kitchen is spacious but homely. There are many shelves to accomodate cooking equipment. The counters are made of pine, to match the cabin. There is a state of the art fridge, and a large breakfast bar. Also, a homemade quilt has been hung on the wall, to give the cabin an even more homely feel.
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll90/hazzybabes-xo/snapshot_00000001_7c651c6b-1.jpg
Here is a shot of the breakfast bar, and the lounge area. There is a large fire place, as you requested. There is also framed local photography of the surrounding views. A beautiful coffee table sets off the whole area.
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll90/hazzybabes-xo/Screenshot.jpg
Here's the First floor. As you can see the master bedroom is just a balcony over the rest of the building. Its an idyllic setting, just as a cabin should be! There is also a patio just off of the master bedroom, which has a fire place, flowers, and chairs to sit and relax!
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll90/hazzybabes-xo/snapshot_00000001_9c651c39.jpg
Here is a close up of the master bedroom. As you can see, you climb a ladder to get to it. There is a large, comfortable bed with a beautiful hand made quilt on it, to keep you warm in the chilly winters! There is also an open wardrobe with no doors, to take up the least space possible. As you can also see, there's a glass panelled door on to the patio.
http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll90/hazzybabes-xo/snapshot_00000001_bc651da2.jpg
And the greatest selling point of the property - the large pond! Hidden within the forest, right behind the house, is an incredible pond. Due to the protection of the trees the wildlife thrives, making it a great place to insect hunt, bird watch, and just chill out! There is a double hammock for you both to enjoy the scenery, especially on warm summers days!
At just 60,000 simoleons, how could you resist?

If these photo's are too small then i'll just have to pull out of the competition, as its half ten here and i need sleep for college tomorrow!

Round 1: The Gravel Family

After receiving access to a large trust fund, Tyler Gravel moved out of his parents' place in the countryside into this luxurious two-storey house in a prime Downtown location:
http://oi42.tinypic.com/deagbo.jpg

Although there was a distinct lack of greenery on the lot itself, Tyler didn't mind. The trees behind the house were close enough but not encroaching, and a few potted plants gave him the extra colour he desired with the minimum of work. Besides, he wasn't interested in gardening; it was the swimming pool he wanted, and the concrete driveway set his prized red sports car off perfectly!

Once his possessions were moved in, the house truly became his own:
Ground floor:
http://oi41.tinypic.com/206cx3b.jpg

First floor:
http://oi41.tinypic.com/2q8x6xl.jpg

The house was perfect; the comfortable lounge holding his funky lippy loveseat and wall-mounted TV:
http://oi43.tinypic.com/2m81rpy.jpg

...the monochrome kitchen with plenty of work-space to make healthy meals (or not!):
http://oi41.tinypic.com/5w9v0l.jpg

...the spacious home gym, another of his little luxuries, with a shower room leading directly off of it:
http://oi41.tinypic.com/2ih46d3.jpg
He keeps his silver trophy displayed in the corner as his motivation to improve, and the large floor-to-ceiling mirror means he can check muscle development while lifting weights!

Upstairs was slightly smaller, but he still adored his bachelor boy's bedroom with its splashes of scarlet against the black and white:
http://oi42.tinypic.com/a9h5i.jpg

...and as for the guest room? Well, he kept the clean modern lines he liked, but in deference to his mother's preference went with a pastel green colour scheme:
http://oi44.tinypic.com/2rzqsyh.jpg

Tyler is already enjoying his new home, and while it is currently a true bachelor pad, he hopes that when he makes it to the top he'll find the perfect sim to share it with.

jadoreux... I'm sorry, but those pictures are too small for us to judge! The overhead shots are far too high to make out any detail.

Right, that's it! Round 1 is now closed! My judging is almost complete, and I have some scores from the other judges... however we will need time to finish the rest as we had quite a few entries over the last two days. Once all the scores are in, I will post them here and then PM the feedback to each of you individually. Please don't ask when the judging will be completed, because I don't know... but as soon as I can, I will publish the scores!

In the mean time, start thinking about your Round 2 entry, if you haven't started it already. You do have almost two weeks, but if get a head start we can avoid any extensions which just mess us all up!

I really enjoyed building my round 1 entry at the weekend and really wish I'd just posted up the non-proper pics I'd taken of it at the time instead of waiting till I'd made a couple of finishing touches (re-adjusting positioning and moving a sim in so I could be in live mode mainly) because I should've known I wouldn't manage to find enough time after. Anyhow, I know the deadline has passed, but it seems pointless having made the house to show and then not show - so is it okay if I still post it? And would I be able to enter the rest of the rounds but just take a big fat 0 as my score for round 1? (Though if judges wanted to give me a hypothetical score and comments I'd appreciate that for learning purposes)

Random and irrelevant note: My spelling/typing is appalling tonight for some reason so typing this has taken me 15mins?! Apologies if there's errors I have missed when correcting...

Croutonian... Sorry, but since you missed the deadline you can't post your entry here, or join the contest for the subsequent rounds. We already have 27 entries which, I'm sure you can imagine, takes a long time to score and mark, so we really can't add somebody who missed the first round.

So that's Round 1 over with, the feedback has been sent out and now you can all start/keep working on your Round 2 entries. The judges and I would like to remind you of a few things for the future rounds:

Please take nice big pictures using either Print Screen or a screen capturing program. Make sure your graphics are set to their highest (you can turn them back down for playing if your computer is slower) and please avoid any UI (such as red pause lines, plumbobs and thought bubbles) and make sure you have no gridlines in your shots!
A garden is an important part of the home. Some gardens were left bare/nearly bare.... You don't have to have a beautiful flower show in every garden but please don't just leave the garden and think you're done.
This contest is about building homes for families, not just ticking off a list of requirements and then submitting your entry. Please make sure you add decorations, plants, paintings or whatever so that the house looks realistic. Think about windows, colour schemes etc before you press submit!
Overhead shots only need to show off the house, not the garden. Please make sure that the house takes up the majority of the picture so we can see lots of detail! If you're house is longer than it is wider, take the picture sideways so that the longest edge of the house is horizontal on your picture!
Finally, make sure the foundation is the correct size and shape! This should be obvious, but 5 people lost all their Foundation marks (which works out at 15 points per round!) because their foundation was either the wrong size or, in one case, mirrored (you can rotate the foundation, but not mirror.)

Bring on the rest of the Round 2 entries!

Hello! I'd like to thank the judges for their time and useful feedback :) I was really happy with my score. So, now onto round 2! I've chosen the Lewis family.

Dear mom, it's already been a month since we moved into Pleasantview. I'm missing Bridgeport a lot, but life here is so much calmer, and the girls really loved their new school. People here are nice, but they keep talking about some lady who was kidnapped by aliens... Well, crazy people are always around us.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o285/filipepatriani/lipe2kfoundation/lipe2k203.jpg
The second floor.

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o285/filipepatriani/lipe2kfoundation/lipe2k204.jpg
Here's our Lara, still wanting to be Sporty Spice in pink! Don't you think her new room is cute?

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o285/filipepatriani/lipe2kfoundation/lipe2k205.jpg
Now this is Leanne's room, with all her books. She didn't want her face to be in the picture, you know it doesn't matter how many times we tell her how gorgeous she is, she always thinks she's uglier than Mrs. Crumplebottom!

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o285/filipepatriani/lipe2kfoundation/lipe2k206.jpg
And finally, this is Lorrie's room! Can you believe she's already in a band here? And even though I've "forgotten" all her hideous band posters in Bridgeport, she has already bought new ones. Layton is already saving to install sound-proof walls in her bedroom...

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o285/filipepatriani/lipe2kfoundation/lipe2k207.jpg
And this is my new giant suite! Everything is in here now: bed, TV, office... We've also gotten a big bathroom, with two sinks and fancy stuff, like those in your magazines!

http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o285/filipepatriani/lipe2kfoundation/lipe2k208.jpg
And this is us eating some grilled cheese (people are crazy about them in here!).

I'm having two new neighbors over for tea, Dina and Nina. They seem nice but I don't like the way they look at Layton!

I hope you will stop postponing your visit. Planes are not that scary!

Love,
Lucinda.

As a reminder, you can select any of the 2 families to build for in this round that you have not yet built for.
The foundation template can be rotated (but not mirrored) and can be placed anywhere on the lot.
Please remember to consider the contest rules and the family's requirements. Good luck!

This prolly falls under silly questions that you've already answered, but I can't find it. Can we use the decking foundation instead of the regular one for part of the foundation? I like the lattice look of it for my porch.

Phaenoh... It was post 15 ;) The "foundation itself must remain the same shape, size and must remain foundation." So sadly, no decking, but you could use a wood-like wall covering on your decking for a similar effect!

Round 2 - The Barkworth Family
Dear god, did these sims ever test me. First thing that happened when I loaded the lot to take pics? It rained. Then a tree got struck by lightning and caught fire. Then the living room rug caught fire. Then Porthos found a lovely place to sleep which coincidentally completely blocked off access to the garden - this inbetween destroying the sofa and digging holes in my very carefully terrain painted veggie plot. Bloody dog.

Anyway! *ahem*

Mike and Meadow Barkworth, their children having long since flown the coop, are living their version of the dream. Their cosy lodge, isolated in the middle of the forest, is absolutely idyllic. Surrounded by nature in all its forms, from morning birdsong to midnight silence punctuated only by the sound of owls; from bats scaring the living daylights out of the dog (artistic license #6014941), to the former trees these nature-lovers have loved into their living room wall: Mike and Meadow have it all.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34825_120314200317Barkworth-frontview.jpg
The interior of the house is warm, of course: from the spacious living room, complete with reading corner and Meadow's sewing machine and fabrics, to the small but functional bathroom, to the luscious bedroom: more of those well-loved former trees are all around. Aww. The kitchen, on the other hand, retains the original theraputic toe-cooling features, particularly in the small but sunny breakfast area.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34826_120314201323Barkworth-floorplan.jpg
Don't worry about that quilt under the dog's basket. If he loves it enough to pull it off the wall and use it as a towel, he might as well keep it.

The modest breakfast area, however, is of little concern to Mike and Meadow, who much prefer to eat outside on the deck.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34828_120314202239Barkworth-dining.jpg
The rest of the garden is no less Mike and Meadow's pride and joy. With plenty of space, a vegetable plot to aid in trapping wild rabbits, a much-used campfire spot, and both a warm pool and a sauna on the deck, to unwind the hiking muscles in in the evenings; the great outdoors really is bloody great for these two.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34829_120314202814Barkworth-garden.jpg
On those occasions when it really is brass monkeys out there (and that's not something the Barkworths admit to often), the living room provides more than adequate shelter and comfort. The high ceilings create a feelng of grandeur, while the roaring fire keeps things cosy and intimate, and the sleeping dog keeps them punctuated by wet snores.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34830_120314203313Barkworth-living.jpg
The bedroom is equally delicious, with its own small stove, rich colours, photographs taken by Mike and Meadow on their hiking trips n the wall - and a door to the garden, so Mike will stop falling over things in the kitchen when embarking on the occasional sleep-hike.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34831_120314203803Barkworth-bedroom.jpg
The bathroom, surprise surprise, is simple, functional, and in keeping with the style of the house. ;) It even has decorations and flowers, all in one picture frame! Score!
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34832_120314204111Barkworth-bathroom.jpg
And finally, the kitchen, centre of the home. Meadow always wanted an AGA; well, this is close enough - and it has more shelves, and doesn't cause the water to come boiling out of the taps when someone forgets to turn it off (and you can't get spares for them anywhere any more...). With the fire burning and tomato-fed rabbit in the oven, this room might just be the warmest and most wonderful-smelling room anywhere - so long as you're wearing fuzzy slippers.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/34833_120314204211Barkworth-kitchen.jpg

Well hell, in the course of making this house I've learnt to recolour rugs, doors, and windows, and to make walls - not bad, hey!

Dear National Historic Society,

Here are the main aspects of my home you wanted me to illustrate, because well... I live in a refurbished factory building. The outside I renovated and turned into my highly prized, slightly messy Sculpture Garden.

http://i.imgur.com/1daPg.jpg

The back of the house was left as it was with only a bit of restoration and landscaping added for looks.

http://i.imgur.com/iliTB.jpg

The entire house is very artsy studded with tons of artwork by my favorite artists, including a few works by Rodney White which were gifts from a close friend. The First floor contains the entryway, the library/Living Area, the dining area, the kitchen and the Art Studio.

http://i.imgur.com/TBQNj.jpg

The Second story is just the bedroom and my private bathroom, both of which are very modern and accented with books and magazines.

The main entryway is adorned with classic Broadway neons and ornate chairs contrasting from the modern hanging staircase and end tables (Fun Fact: The Spiral Staircase is floating above the ground hung from steel cables all around.) I hand-painted the staircase with a plaid print during the remodeling.

http://i.imgur.com/Wuea1.jpg

The kitchen is dominate by hues of yellow and blue, and contrasted by the transparent glass along the counters and the fridge. The bar stools are by BBR Furnishings and are custom upholstered.

http://i.imgur.com/uymqk.jpg

The workshop is adorned (albeit slightly messily) with empty canvases, photos and bottles of paint and wine (What, an artist can't drink?) The centerpiece is a wooden draft table, which softens under the touch of a pen, much like a thick stack of paper.

http://i.imgur.com/Jq7iG.jpg

The bedroom is very modern and very minimalistic. It features a low slung bed and modern colonial end tables which house the first editions that didn't fir in my library.

Since we're discussing our trials and tribulations with this round, I thought I'd share my experience. Before I took my screenshots, I had Rain outside painting for a while so I could get some nice artwork to hang around the house. All of a sudden I get that little red popup- "It's gotten dark outside" (or whatever it says). It's been ages since I've had the meteor event, if I ever even had one at all, so what do I do? I panic of course, and the poor woman gets crushed like a meatball sandwich. Not only that, but half the house catches on fire while the fireman stands around stomping his feet and whining about routing problems (the meteor was in his way apparently...).

Thank heaven for twallan's saver mod, or I'd be a whole lot more upset right now. I do feel bad about Rain's rather gruesome end though. Perhaps next time I shouldn't send her to stand directly under the ominous looking shadow... ;)

The Montenegro Family:

Rain Montenegro may not be as young as your typical up-and-coming artist, but age has never slowed her down before. Tired of the same old 9 to 5 grind, Rain decided a couple years back to quit her job, sell her house, and follow her childhood dream of becoming a painter. Once she sold her apartment in the city, the feisty senior packed her bags and moved to a charming little home in the countryside surrounding Riverview. While a farmhouse was not first on her list of desirable homes, she needed a place that had enough space to accommodate her art equipment, and in her budget that meant looking outside of town.

Two years later, she is as content as can be. She finds the laid back lifestyle much more conducive to creating those ever elusive masterpieces, and she loves having so much outdoor space. On clear days, she can even take her brushes onto the deck out back and paint in the fresh country air.

The Exterior:

Seemingly quite large on the outside, Rain was surprised by how much square footage her money got her a bit further from town.
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-42.jpg

First Floor Layout:

The open floor plan offers plenty of elbow room when Rain's friends drop by for a visit, and the separate entry way adds a nice touch of formality whenever clients stop in to look at her work.
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-36.jpg

Living Room:

When Rain first moved in, the house needed a bit of work. While a complete remodel was simply not in her budget, she quickly learned that a touch of paint can do wonders for a dreary room. The mural was a labor of love for Rain and provided a dramatic way to display her talent to potential buyers.
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-65.jpg

Kitchen:

She likes to keep things neat and tidy... at least in public areas.
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-71.jpg

The Bedroom:

Rain painted another mural over the bed in her bedroom, but this one is a more private indulgence.
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-55.jpg

Second Floor Layout:

The second floor is accessed by a spiral staircase in the living room. It is a loft-like space that overlooks the kitchen and dining area below. Rain absolutely adores all the windows.
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-39.jpg

Studio:

She spends the majority of her time up here in the art studio. It's not quite as neat as the rest of the house, but she does her best.
http://i1038.photobucket.com/albums/a466/colleen_davis/Screenshot-63.jpg

Round 3 - The Lewis Family

For the Lewis family I have built a 5 bedroom (1 room is used as an office), 3.5 bathrooms, house with a 3 car driveway, large backyard, and a bonus room.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1280944-round3_lewis1.jpg
The first floor has a formal living room, dining room, and gourmet kitchen, with white tile floors. There is a half bathroom for guests right off of the kitchen. The master suite is also downstairs with an ensuite 4-piece bathroom. And a back patio leads out to the backyard with a paved sidewalk looping back to the driveway.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1280943-round3_lewis2.jpg
The second floor has 4 bedrooms and 2 jack-&-jill bathrooms. Leanne and Lorrie share one bathroom, while Lara has a bathroom on her own that she only shares with the office. Lucinda is a lawyer and she tends to get ready for her cases in the office.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1280942-round3_lewis3.jpg
Downstairs is formal. Layton, being a college professor, and Lucinda, being a lawyer, have dinner parties with their colleagues at times and this is the perfect place to do it. Lucinda loves the pristine black, white, gray look of the furniture in this area, but she also loves the bold red staircase.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1280941-round3_lewis4.jpg
Leanne has a wall full of books and movies. Originally her parents thought the room may be too small, but she loves it, all she does is read anyway.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1280940-round3_lewis6.jpg
Lara loves the color blue. She's also an athlete who dabbles in all sports, she's a fan of several famous sports stars and she hangs their posters on her wall.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1280939-round3_lewis7.jpg
Lorrie aspires to play or sing classical music in the largest Opera houses in SimCity. She also loves stained glass and the color green.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1280938-round3_lewis8.jpg
There's a bonus room in the Lewis family house upstairs. The family can be relaxed and listen to Lorrie sing, or Leanne recite poetry, or they can watch the highlights from Lara's last game on tv.

Rain, who loves green and green things, but can only afford base game prices, chose this house for its many windows which let in plenty of light for her painting, and also for its grassy yard with plenty of settings for her portraits.
http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/triciamanly/frontofhouse-6.jpg

http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/triciamanly/backofhouse-3.jpg

While Rain paints wherever she happens to be, her favorite place is her hexagon room which she uses as her main studio.
http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/triciamanly/studio.jpg

She paints flattering portraits of all her friends and neighbors, but her favorite subject is her little gnome because he stays still for hours without complaining.
http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/triciamanly/Rainsbedroom.jpg

The dining room and kitchen are a large space with an artist's corner where Rain paints when she wants to be close to snacks.
http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/triciamanly/kitchen-29.jpg

http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/triciamanly/diningroom-22.jpg

The first floor includes living, dining, kitchen, guest bath, and art studio.
http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/triciamanly/firstfloor-18.jpg

The second floor includes Rain's bedroom with painting corner and private bathroom.

http://i1012.photobucket.com/albums/af248/triciamanly/secondfloor-17.jpg

Rain is hopeful that one day her gnome portraits will be world famous. Perhaps Mod the Sims will help!

Whoops! Good thing I checked the site yesterday - I'd totally forgotten that Round 2 closes soon!

So, for Round 2 I chose the Lewis family. For this family, I sort of got the impression of them being a hectic, busy household where people are basically tripping over each other in daily life (sort of like life in MY house these days! ).

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_bc5ccc98.jpg

So, this house is a two-story home with four bedrooms, two bathrooms, and (quite frankly) not quite enough space. Of course, any house with three teenage sisters never seems to have enough space!

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_bc5cccc8.jpg

On the main floor, we have the kitchen, living-dining room (Lucinda discovered - to her dismay - upon arriving that she had overestimated how much space there was for her dining set), the foyer and the master suite.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_9c5ab721.jpg

While most of the house was redone when they first moved in, the kitchen hasn't yet been updated to the bright colours that Lucinda prefers in her decor. (Next promotion that Layton gets, that's where the money's going!)

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_1c5cccbe.jpg

On the second floor, the triplets have their bedrooms and the second bathroom. Leanne's room is conveniently located next to the balcony, so that she can read outside on a warm, sunny day! Lorrie was sent to the room on the opposite side of the house, since she spends a lot of time practicing her voice and violin, and it really bugs her sisters (Lara and Leanne both informed her of this the first day in their new home).

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_1c5ccd34.jpg

For Layton and Lucinda, they chose a neutral, soft colour scheme to give both a little reprieve from the noise and chaos that come along with three teenage daughters. While the room is minimalist at the moment, Lucinda would love to be able to rearrange to get a small sitting area.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_9c5ccd72.jpg

For Lara, she chose a dark blue and gold colour scheme to match her school team colours (the Pleasantview Fightin' Llamas), with last year's divisional championship trophy placed right inside the doorway, so that you can't possibly miss it. Today, her room is reasonably tidy - only her baseball equipment is on the floor!

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_dc5ccd8e.jpg

For Lorrie, she wanted a warmer colour scheme to reflect the rich tones of the elite Tennant Academy - a school for musical prodigies in SimNation, and the school she hopes to attend for her senior year. She practices her violin and voice in preparation for the entrance exams (24 hours a day, according to her sisters). When she's composing, Lorrie prefers to sit on her floor.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_fc5ccd7c.jpg

And as for Leanne, she wanted a kaleidoscope of bright colours. With her favourite egg chair tucked away in a corner, it offers her the perfect escape on a dreary day.

Not going to lie... I'm a little in love with Leanne's room. I want it in real life so badly.

I chose the Lewis family for this round, going with a bright double-fronted building, complete with four bedrooms, two bathrooms (one of which being an en suite), living room, kitchen/diner, and a study/snug.

I also elected to do the Lewis family. Either I'm way off base with the names or I just suck at making people. The Lewis family ended up being the O'Donnel family in my game. Patrick, Brighid, Lara, Leanne, and Lorrie moved into an old Irish manor. (I was making Layton and somehow he became a leprechaun, so I made the family Irish from there.) (apologies to any actual Irish out there, this is way stereotypical).

The house has a long history, it was built many many years back before the roads through town were drawn up. What is now the side of the house used to originally be the front. There was a large garden and doors to both main areas of the house. When the town got bigger and expanded outward, the road ended up on the side of the house. The front porch was redone to accommodate the new entrance direction and a driveway was put in. Many of the original details in the house still exist - like the wood floors, bathroom tiles and much of the fixtures from the copper kitchen, though it was moved from what is now the dining room. The stone annex was less of a fire hazard. A good deal of the house has been renovated as well. Its an odd mix of old and new, and the O'Donnels think it's just perfect for them.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1281282-TripletsHouse-Front.jpg

The kitchen and the living room are just the right size for the family to come together and enjoy their favorite activities without tripping over one another.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1281283-TripletsHouse-Living.jpg http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1281284-TripletsHouse-Kitchen.jpg

When the girls want to be alone, however, they each have an identically sized bedroom to partake in their hobbies. Lara is a ballet dancer. She has a barre and a mirror and she's also a bit of a girly girl. She loves pink and has crushes on all the celebrities.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1281285-TripletsHouse-Lara.jpg

Leanne loves Shakespeare and anything from the Olde World. She also has taking up acting and lives in a fantasy land. When she doesn't have her nose in a book, she has her head in the clouds.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1281286-TripletsHouse-Leannes.jpg

Lorrie is quite the violin virtuoso. She regularly performs in concerts at school and sits First Chair. She's not just interested in Classical though, she also has a sweet stereo system to listen to the College Rock and Pop stations.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1281287-TripletsHouse-Lorrie.jpg

Just your typical family of redheads! The house is available for download (http://www.modthesims.info/d/472514) now!

"The Lewis Family - When Layton and Lucinda found out they were expecting it was the greatest day of their lives. When they found out they were having triplets? Not so much. Now their three daughters (athletic Lara, bookwork Leanne and musician Lorrie) are all teenagers, they are demanding their own rooms. Layton and Lucinda are happy to move, but want a large master bedroom and their own en-suite bathroom."

The Lewis' bought the house before the triplets became teens, and have upgraded it a little at a time over the years. They chose well:the stone and wood construction lends an air or solidity, while the beautifully colorful landscaping softens the hardscape:

This house was an interesting build. I generally like to have two story homes, but thought since it was supposed to be only one person, one story would be perfect.

I ran the household in test play for awhile to be sure everything was accessible. Rain had other ideas about her single life. The unexpected joys of the ACR mod. (You'll see the man in the shot again in Round 4 as he is Mike Barkworth.)
http://i461.photobucket.com/albums/qq333/Rosebud1773/nice-toddler.jpg

The front door is there, it's just blocked open by the boxes. It looks like moving day. Rain almost has to move since she gave birth to Mike's twins. Such a mess my neighborhood has become....

I've maintained Rain's love of green to an extreme in all her decor. Her furniture is relatively cheap stuff and yet fairly bright in color.

At this point, I can't wait to see how the Barkworths deal with the events once their house is built....right next door.

Round 2 - Tyler Gravel

http://i39.tinypic.com/np48c2.jpg

Tyler Gravel likes sport. And girls. And parties. Basically Tyler likes anything that makes him happy; he is an egocentric pleasure-seeker.

http://i41.tinypic.com/se4osh.jpg

On the ground floor of his modern home there is a spacious open plan living and dining area, with pleanty of room for entertaining.

http://i44.tinypic.com/qoj2p1.jpg

Towards the front of the house there is a living room. Tyler wanted to make it small and cozy; the perfect place to snuggle up with a date. However, the addition of a flat screen TV kind of ruined this idea...

http://i43.tinypic.com/6sbaz4.jpg

Also downstairs there are doors out onto the garden, a small bathroom, and Tyler's home gym.

http://i42.tinypic.com/vkrwh.jpg

Outside there is a large pool and patio area, perfect for parties on hot summers days, and a basketball court, complete with bleachers, where the rising basketball player can show off and impress the ladies.

http://i41.tinypic.com/nzh855.jpg

On the first floor there are two bedrooms, both ensuite.

http://i44.tinypic.com/2lmphs9.jpg

The guest room is decorated in pastel greens, fitting for his parents, brother, or old school friends. Tyler's bedroom contrasts the white of the furniture, carpet and three walls with the striking red wall, a pattern of decour which Tyler hopes will impress the ladies.

Rustic and remote this cabin was the place the Barkworth's were looking for. With the kids finally all out of the house they wanted to retire early and adapt to their new home while they were still young. Although their golden years may be just around the corner they are looking forward to spending their time together in the great outdoors they both love. There was also room enough for them to take their daughter's elderly cat, Fanny, with them since she couldn't have it in the dorm.

The kitchen is simple but does include a few modern conveniences, mostly because Meadow put her foot down and demanded a dishwasher.

With a large fireplace to keep them warm during the coldest months the living room is very cozy and just right for two.

A small simple bathroom is located directly off of their upstairs bedroom. Indoor plumbing was another modern amenity Meadow was adamant about having.

Their bedroom is spacious and airy.

Best of all they can both participate in one of their favorite pastimes right in their own backyard.

This contest has caused me to expand my simming world in good ways :D I now know how to retexture a painting to make my own artwork. I used to all the time for Sims 2, but hadn't yet for 3. After seeing the foundation for round 3, I switched families for round 2...so I now present to you the home of Tyler Gravel!

Being a top athlete has it's perks. Being able to have a nice house is one of them! After leading his team to their first championship, Tyler rewarded himself with a new home. Being a busy bachelor, Tyler turned of the decorating to an interior designer, who captured his tastes perfectly.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1281804-tylerfront.jpg
The classic contrasts and sharp lines of the house caught Tyler's attention , as he prefers a modern look. The simple landscaping allowed room for Tyler to add his own personal practice field.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1281805-tyler1.jpg
The first floor features an open living/dinning area with an office nook. There is also a home gym, a necessity for a superstar athlete!

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1281806-tyler2.jpg
The second floor has a TV room, Master bedroom with en suite bathroom and a guest bedroom.

Simple living room and dining area. The fireplace is set off by a stone accent wall.

Tyler's favorite motivation poster decorates the gym. With a wall TV in front of the tredmill for watching playback while training.

When Tyler and his teammates are done playing on the field, they can go to Tyler's place and play on the ExoEdge.

A inviting bedroom for relaxing, or entertaining the ladies ;) Features a closet.

The pool was another big draw for Tyler. The built-in grill is great for team cook outs.

Round 2 - The Lewis Family

While they were sorry to leave their old house in leafy Riverblossom Hills behind, the Lewis family gazed upon their new mock-Tudor style residence located in the just-as-leafy New Pleasantview:
http://oi44.tinypic.com/2up9xdw.jpg

The ground floor consisted of an entryway with den, which the triplets immediately commandeered, the L-shaped kitchen and a large main lounge which gave the parents their own space too:
http://oi39.tinypic.com/qrek40.jpg

Upstairs, there was plenty of space for all - each girl had her own room decked out exactly as she wanted it, and Layton and Lucinda got their wish of bedroom with en-suite:
http://oi44.tinypic.com/282usp.jpg

Lucinda wasted no time in bringing out the camera - she loved that kitchen:
http://oi41.tinypic.com/2vbu6w1.jpg

Layton's favourite room was the main lounge:
http://oi44.tinypic.com/33nw1oh.jpg

Leanne found the bookshelves in her room were a godsend, but her large literary collection still found its way on to every available surface:
http://oi44.tinypic.com/i3hyz7.jpg

Lara's room was far more streamlined and a lot less cluttered, but just having space for her exercise bike was more than she ever hoped for:
http://oi43.tinypic.com/igjjpc.jpg

And Lorrie? With hooks on the wall for her guitar, a corner for her amp and being able to leave her music stand up so she could practise the violin, she was over the moon! There was even somewhere she could leave the balalaika she'd borrowed from her teacher in safety:
http://oi39.tinypic.com/zpd1w.jpg

It always takes a while to settle into a new area, but the Lewis family are confident that settling into their new house won't take too long.

lunajumper44... Your entry for Round 2 says "The Lewis Family", can you change this please?

Right, that's it! Round 2 is now closed! I have some scores from the other judges... however we will need time to finish the rest, so please be patient! Once all the scores are in, I will post them here and then PM the feedback to each of you individually. Please don't ask when the judging will be completed, because I don't know... but as soon as I can, I will publish the scores!

In the mean time, start thinking about your Round 3 entry, if you haven't started (or finished!) it already. Round 3 will be closing in two weeks time (04/04) and the foundation for Round 4 will be published this time next week (28/03.)

Phaenoh... They won't be allowed to compete, unfortunately :( I had messages from contestants who weren't able to get an entry in (who have been marked as "withdrawn", but the other entrants just have "no submission" next to them.) The rounds are 3 weeks long so I think that's plenty of time to create an entry, or if not, let me know that you can't continue in the contest.

After years of working hard in Sim City as a scientist and a doctor, Layton and Lucinda Lewis were ready to trade in their cushy--yet very cramped--apartment for a house with enough space to let their identical teenage daughters express their individuality. Also aware that they would (hopefully) soon be entering retirment, Layton and Lucinda were thrilled when Sim Realty gave them a great price on a beachfront house just outside the city!
http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_m19f7g65qs1rqfd7oo1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1332461561&Signature=hq5%2BaY6XsKEHdnom9OIQRNfB6JA%3D

Well, it wasn't *quite* on the beach, but it was only a short walk from the back deck, and they could see the ocean from inside the house. This was a huge hit with all their daughters, but most especially Lara, an accomplished swimmer--who then demanded surfing lessons as soon as the family moved in.
http://www.tumblr.com/photo/1280/not-times-fool/19705116696/5/tumblr_m19f7g65qs1rqfd7o

Though the house wasn't a mansion by any stretch, Layton and Lucinda had the entire lower level to themselves (peace and quiet, finally!), with access not only to their own bathroom, but also directly to the jacuzzi just outside.
http://www.tumblr.com/photo/1280/not-times-fool/19705116696/8/tumblr_m19f7g65qs1rqfd7o

Their ground-level location also helped them ensure their headstrong daughter Lorrie, an aspiring musician, wasn't sneaking out to parties at night. ;)
http://www.tumblr.com/photo/1280/not-times-fool/19705116696/6/tumblr_m19f7g65qs1rqfd7o

It was harder to tell if Leanne, their quietest daughter, was settling in well, but when they realized she was disappearing every weekend to frequent Sim Isle's many antique shops in search of new and rare books, they were fairly certain she would be just fine.

Hi! Time for third round! I've chosen the Barkworth family for this one, and it was by far the toughest lot to make in this contest. I live in a hot country, so all I know about log cabins is what I saw in movies and Google, so if there's something completely out of place that could make a log cabin explode in real life, I truly apologize!

So, in my game, Mike and Meadow Barkworth were a young couple who loved the outdoors and travelled a lot around the sim world. They bought a little piece of land on a cliff somewhere in Three Lakes and built this small log cabin.

I've wanted to post a night shot since round 1, but only now it was possible :D At first, I was doing a two-store house, then I realize only one was enough for them!

No, it was right. I was confused too, because the US is already on DST but Europe isn't, and I ended up being off in how much time I had to finish up with the annoying stuff (screenshots, cropping pics, uploading, etc.).

Its such a pretty and clever house, and Day Light Saving Time is screwy and did happen in the middle of the contest. If you had checked the clock at the beginning of the project and noted down the time difference but haven't gone back since you would have missed the time change. They only barely missed it, not even a half hour, I'd let them in. :)

Rain Montenegro is a struggling artist. Her house is filled with art projects in various states of completion. She has a studio in her house so she can escape the world and focus on her art, and she also has a little shop to sell her art, but so far she hasn't got too many customers, as her house is located deep in the forest, in the middle of a swamp. The rest of the house she has filled with simple, cheap furniture, that she has bought from various flee-markets and recycling centers, and renovated with bright colours that give her happiness in the middle of the gloomy swamp. Rain loves the colour green, but can't stand purple. Purple has no room in her home.

The foundation has been elevated with CFE, but the size and shape are still the same. I PM'd the host and they allowed me to keep my foundation modification, as it's still within the rules - and asked me to link to an additional picture that shows just that the foundation is whole, as it is hard to see in the other pictures. So here (http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Foundation%20contest%20round%203/Screenshot-9.jpg?t=1332411358) is the proof pic.

Pictures taken in lovely and grungy Twinbrook, CC by me, photoshop limited to picture frames (greeeeen ;))

Notes about building:
The lot is fully playtested, and my sim also gave me giggles when she started painting the artworks to be placed on the wall - the first painting she made, was the one above the fireplace. She was using the backyard easel. Quite a funny coincidence.. ^^

katalina522... As you were only half an hour or so past the deadline, and there is still judging to be done,we can accept your entry.

Just as a note to everyone, though, please try to get your entry in as early as possible - I know it's not always possible but leaving it until the last day/hours (particularly as we are across time zones) can make everything a bit complicated. The clock under the "Rounds" section of the main post is the official clock that the contest goes by, so make sure you check it to know how long you've got! (And just as an aside, the UK/GMT clocks change this weekend!)

And just as an aside, the UK/GMT clocks change this weekend!Which brings up a valid point:
GMT itself doesn't change, but with Daylight Savings (or as I think of it, British Summer Time) obviously pushing the clock forward, will the official contest clock alter as well?

While I'm not bothered either way (being a Brit I'd automatically consider cut-off being at one minute to midnight), those in other time-zones may have to re-adjust.

I've been away from my computer the last couple of days (who knew it was sunny in Wales? ;)) but I am going to try and finish my judging - and at least post the scores - this evening if I get a chance once I've finished my work! Sorry for the slight delay!

:alarm: Also, following on from the early discussion - the rounds will now close at 11:59.59 BST. This is simply GMT+1, however I have changed the link to the clock on the first page, so make sure you head over there to work out when the round closes in your time zone. Mucking up the times isn't a good enough reason for a late entry, sadly, so make sure you get yours in on time! :alarm:

Mike and Meadow Barkworth found this rustic retreat in the forest not long after the loss of their only child. The 1-bed, 1-bath cabin gave them the distance and serenity they needed to recover.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_1c7f9094.jpg

The kitchen was placed nice and close to the back porch, so that the couple can eat outdoors if they want.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_1c7f9054.jpg

The living room is uncluttered and quiet. Mike is an avid photographer and painter, and often makes use of the window near his easel to paint wildlife that passes through their backyard. Every painting and photo on the walls are his workmanship.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_9c7f9083.jpg

Meadow is more of a needlecraft and sewing enthusiast. She put together many of the small needlepoint decorations, dried flowers and plants, and quilts that can be seen around the house. In her sewing corner, Meadow keeps her small daughter's first quilt as a memorial and a token to feel as though her child is always close by.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sims%202%20Building/Foundations%20for%20Families/snapshot_00000011_5c7f90a9.jpg

From out the back, you can see the garden, the fishing pond and Mike's pet project - an old car that he hopes to restore.

Round 3 Entry
This has been a difficult build for me but I'm actually starting to like it now. Reason for this? I just don't do modern! As you may have guessed this is the Gravel House...
The sportsman has moved to Lunar Lakes and bought a bachelor pad - he loves geometric patterns and wanted the house to reflect his larger than life personality. He also now has a gym area, pool and small grassy area for playing ball. To continue throwing his legendary parties there is an outside bar, large table and barbecue.

Hey guys, hope you're all well and busy working hard on your Round 3 entries! The deadline is Wednesday and we still haven't had most of the entries in - I know we still have a few days but I figure I'll ask now... If you feel like you may need an extension let me know via PM and if there's a sufficient need, I can extend the round by a few days (I know it took a while to get the previous round's feedback out and some of you wait to see what the judges have to say before submitting the next round!)

Riptide651

OK, so I promised myself this round, I wouldn't rush this house, and I wouldn't be the first to submit my entry like last time. But I so happened to have my entire evening free 2 days ago, and I just sat down and got to work. I made a promise.....

And well, I lied.

I had originally wanted to end with a BANG! and do something really different and make a prairie style house. My heart just sank when I saw the 4th foundation. Since the Prairie Style is Horizontally oriented, I could not build it. And on this foundation, even if I did, the balconies would take up countless space needed for the 4 bedrooms for the Lewis Family. After a bit of thought I settled on the Tudor Style. Although I love the style itself, I honestly had to clue how to build a Tudor House and make it Look Authentic. After a few hours of research and a gigantic waste of paper printing off hundreds of reference pictures to go off of, I created my 4th and Final Entry - Tudor is Better Than One Door (I loved it so much I had to give it a corny name.)

Here is the house:

http://i.imgur.com/1MKy9l.jpg

This wonderful Tudor Style home, Is fully Landscaped and topped off with little pots of flowers on the openings in the fences.
The beams and plaster filled walls are not weight-bearing although the original Tudor style houses (Before weight-bearing walls) intended them to be. They are simply now for decoration.

http://i.imgur.com/QYmPpl.jpg

The back of the house, complete with plenty of windows and a Brick wall, includes a wonderful secluded backyard hideaway, with a state-of-the-art grill, a pool, and a seating area.

http://i.imgur.com/gjJQll.jpg

The first story includes a living/dining area, a large kitchen, a master bedroom, and an en suite bathroom.

http://i.imgur.com/rVXRZl.jpg

The warm living room is full of calm colors, countering the solid plaster and beams of wood on the walls. The cozy fireplace is a great place for Leanne to read.

http://i.imgur.com/FDQ7gl.jpg

On the upper level, there is the three daughters' bedrooms, a shared bathroom, and a large billiard room/library.

http://i.imgur.com/dyAy8l.jpg

The billiard room is a great place for the family to hang out in, with plenty of space for Lorrie and Lara to challenge each other in a game of pool, and simply a treasure trove of first editions for Leanne to read. And luckily this keeps the kids entertained, as Layton and Lucinda relax downstairs by the fireplace or down by the pool.

http://i.imgur.com/dSXWil.jpg

Leanne's room is a yellow Victorian print, with a bookshelf and a chair on one side, and an easel on the other, where Leanne paints when not reading or writing. Behind us (not visible in the shot) is a loft bed, which underneath stands an antique desk on which Leanne writes. Interestingly enough, Leanne's room is the only bedroom without a TV, for she would rather read than watch it.

http://i.imgur.com/hsvmEl.jpg

Lorrie's love for music stems into the very roots of her.... bedroom. With walls covered in records, posters, and neons, it is only topped off by her very own drum set and a set of electric guitars.

Lara's rooms was messy when the agent came by and she refused to let him take a picture (This is basically my haphazard and irrelevant excuse for putting in a picture of the game room instead of Lara's room)

Special Thanks: granthes for his OMSP
Buzzler for his scribbling pad.

Round 4 - Montenegro

I have been really looking forward to this round. I wanted to create a vibrant mix of colours, clashing and complementing simultaneously. Rain's house is an old house, Victorian in fact. The attic has been renovated into an art studio with huge windows to let in the light. The windows were sourced from an old factory and the decor is an eclectic mix from charity shops. As you can see she loves colourful clutter and warm colours like reds/corals to contrast with her favourite greens and turquoises. She has picked up some antique bargains and old rugs to create a truly bohemian look.
Rain also loves her back garden, divided into circles of patio and lawn, separated by flowers and rocks.

To double-check, because I couldn't find the post on it: are we allowed to put fireplaces against an outside wall with the chimney jutting out from the foundation?

w_sims
2nd Apr 2012, 10:39 AM
katalina522... Yes you may, but you cannot build any walls around it from the outside, or place a foundation underneath it (it will place something underneath the fireplace the height of the foundation, though, so it won't look like it's floating! You just can't extend the foundation underneath it. Ideally, though (I'm saying as a house designer, not a judge) it's best to have the entire fireplace (the entire 2x2 square) inside the house, so you can decorate the walls around it.... silly EA not making fireplace bricks recolourable!

:alarm: Due to a few requests, Round 3 will be extended by 4 days and will now close on Sunday 8th April at 11:59:59 BST (GMT+1.) :alarm:

If you don't think you can get an entry in by then, please PM me to let me know!

Entrances (main, on the porch, and side entrance into a kind of mudroom, for when Mike and Meadow return from an expedition in the nearby woods and along muddy banks). This is a small lot right up against some mountainous terrain. You can't see it here, but their road is unpaved; therefore I left the landscape more "natural": worn-away grass rather than pavers or other man-made materials. The Barkworths keep things simple! Besides, they'd rather "play" in the outdoors than maintain a whole lot of hardscaping, don't you think? :)

Private rear entry goes straight into the single bedroom. It also allows easy access to the clothes line (not shown, but you can see it's shadow on the right, if you look carefully)

A small lot doesn't prevent some beautiful flower beds around the house! The stairs on the far side lead to the private bedroom's porch.

Ack, this one was close. Managed to completely break my game this afternoon (note to self - do not install Scriptorium with busted registry entries...), flashing red 'hoods all round, don't have my disks, leaving the country for a week and a half on Friday. Fun fun fun! Yay for geronimo troubleshooting.

So, eventually, somewhat miraculously, I present...
Round 3 - The Lewis Family
The Lewises are a big family, and big families have to think big. This imitation-grand imitation-old imitation-stately home makes quite the statement from the outside - making up for the statement Layton finds himself unable to make in the normal way, due to the lack of commercially available five-seater sports cars - but inside it is remarkably modern and comfortable. It may be imitation-almost-everything, but it's certainly not an imitation-home!
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/35119_120403192448Lewis-front.jpg
The grand front door opens onto a welcoming hallway, with a small downstairs toilet, and the only bookcase in the house which, incidentally, contains nothing of Leanne's. Past the staircase, a door leads to the spacious, well-equipped kitchen, and on into the small but tidy dining room. The back door leads out to an enclosed patio, perfect for sitting out in the sun.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/35121_120403193045Lewis-floorplan1.jpg
Back inside, the luxurious living room provides a comfy place to while away the evenings - why yes, Phae, that is your piano. Great minds again, huh? Through the glass door (extra thick, to drown out-umm, preserve... the sanctity of... Lorrie's sax playing) is the sunny study, complete with Lara's old world map.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/35122_120403193532Lewis-living.jpg
Well, we all know what's coming upstairs! Layton and Lucinda's spacious, relaxing master bedroom is complemented by a luxurious bathroom with in-built tub/shower and a wall of small mirrors, all the better to peek at you with, my dear. Their small balcony provides the perfect vantage point for morning coffee, or for spying on the neighbours - whatever takes their fancy.
The three girls share the larger bathroom at the front of the house - and in case of disputes, the loser can always go and wash in the fountain out front...
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/35124_120403194053Lewis-floorplan2.jpg
The girls' bedrooms are, of course, their pride and joy. Lara loves fresh air: hiking, mountain climbing, skiing - anything that's under the clear blue sky, she'll try. She's also an avid fan of watersports, owner not only of snorkelling gear ("If it can survive the ocean it can survive being left on the floor, Dad!" "No-one steps on it in the ocean, Lara!"), but of a custom made surfboard, which lives just behind the camera...
Of course, one lake/ocean/mountain is never enough: Lara is constantly dreaming of adrenaline-fuelled adventures in far flung places.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/35125_120403194753Lewis-Lara.jpg
Leanne loves reading almost as much as she loves writing, and that's saying something. In her sunny bedroom - which she privately refers to as "the tower room" - evidence of her many, many, many... many literary endeavours is all around. When she's not writing at her desk, the ottoman provides a perfect place to read in the sunshine - and the high shelf next to her loft bed saves her all the fuss of trying to sleep with a torch and a book under her pillow.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/35126_120403195132Lewis-Leanne.jpg
Lorrie has excellent taste - simple, classy, and sophisticated. Combine that with her skills at sax, violin, and cello (she's not allowed any instruments in her room - but no-one can get the cello down the stairs without Lara's help, and Lara and Lorrie have a deal...), and you could be forgiven for jumping to conclusions about Lorrie. You might, then, be surprised that, in addition to playing her music, she also composes, records, edits, produces, and distributes it - all from behind that fancy computer. There's nothing a few Young Musician Awards in a row can't buy you.
http://www.modyourpanties.com/hosting/35127_120403195648Lewis-Lorrie.jpg
When the girls aren't shut up in their rooms, pursuing their various passions, the somewhat more untamed area of the garden is theirs: the makeshift auditorium, dug out by Lara, is a great place to sit and giggle at each others' musical and poetic recitals; Leanne loves to sit under the apple blossoms, staring into the distance in the hope that her imagination might suddenly decide to line up in an orderly fashion. As for Lara - she's happy wherever there's green! Layton and Lucinda are hardly excluded, with the run of the patio (when it's not being used for BBQs), or the option of listening in on their daughter's antics from the intimate little balcony above.

Round 3: The Montenegro Family

When Rain Montenegro first saw the house, she knew it was the place for her. The green clapboard walls, asymmetrical roof and garden-gone-wild got her creative juices flowing and she couldn't wait to move in!
http://oi43.tinypic.com/2nge90h.jpg

The ground floor provided ample space for living, with a large lounge, kitchen in back and the all-important art studio:
http://oi43.tinypic.com/vg527r.jpg

The upstairs was smaller, but still gave her a decent sized bedroom and bathroom with luxury corner bath in her favourite shade:
http://oi44.tinypic.com/2vw7fqf.jpg

Once her belongings were moved in and arranged to her satisfaction, the lounge looked thus:
http://oi43.tinypic.com/2mx1szq.jpg

Her much-desired studio was perfect, having space for her artist supplies as well as her easel and half-used sketchbooks. And yes, the graffiti was her doing!
http://oi40.tinypic.com/vepv0j.jpg

The kitchen was minimalist in nature, but the funky walls and wacky worktops more than made up for it!
http://oi39.tinypic.com/n4wkko.jpg

Not long after moving in, Rain painted two of the sculptures in her overgrown garden under various light conditions; they took pride of place on her bedroom wall. But they weren't the only feature in that room:
http://oi44.tinypic.com/212v67a.jpg

But Rain's second-favourite place to spend her time was her upstairs landing. After helping her unpack, Rain's sister Sarah suggested she do something with the boxes instead of just chucking them away... a flick of a paintbrush, a couple of windows let into a loft-space and some groovy lights gave her a sculpture that made everyone who saw it smile:
http://oi43.tinypic.com/2d79c9t.jpg

Rain never did "sort out" the garden - in her eyes there were much better things to do with her time; anyway, it gave her a constant source of inspiration. When she wasn't relaxing in a nice hot bath, her evenings were spent sprawled on the blow-up armchair next to her "robot family", while she pondered on her next big project. The pad and crayons she left on the adjacent coffee table came in handy...

One autumn day, she finally achieved her dream.. Visionary; the pinnacle of Artist Appreciation.

Is the close date for round 3 still the 8th?
I'll see if I can rustle something up by then, if not I'll contribute to the final round.
Thanks & nice to meet you all.

Sorry, TheGirlAnachronism but there's really no way you could join the contest seeing as the first two rounds are already closed and the third closes very soon! You can play along, as it were, following the rules of the contest in your own game but you can't post your entries here and they won't be judged.

I need to thank you wgroome very much for the extension. This round coincided with me returning to the US after a month and a half long trip in Europe, and then quickly jumping back into school two days later. This last week was taken up playing catch up in all my classes after missing the first week. I don't anticipate the next round to be such a trouble maker for me ;)

After seeing that piece sticking out by itself and the nice octagon shape I knew this was my log cabin on a lake. Twins Mike and Meadow Barkworth (or Todd Oliver and Alisa May Jenson) both love the outdoors. They've always dreamed out having a beautiful log cabin home they can come back to after a long day of hiking and insect collecting. They've realized their dreams after their Nana died and left them some money. It wasn't much but together they were able to afford their little cabin.

What really sold them on this house in particular, is their little rock-quarry lake off the back porch. They adding a diving board and ladder and love cooling off in the lake. They also have a small hot springs in one corner and the lake is stocked full of fish.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1285600-LogCabin-HotTub.jpg

The twins enjoy gardening and are trying to live as off the grid as possible. They have a small garden on the side of the house, and there are solar panels on the roof. They do have a station wagon because its quite a hike to get back to town. Now they both love a good hike, but not so much when it is part of a grocery run. Newspapers and kitchen scraps get composted to help the plants grow.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1285599-LogCabin-SideGarden.jpg

They love that their house is a traditional pine cabin, with a small but gorgeous fireplace in the living room. The cozy little cabin didn't have much room for a giant hearth, but Mike is thrilled that the woodstove is an original from the 1800s. The previous owners of the cabin had real class. The bookshelves are full of trinkets they've picked up on their trips and a few things from Nana. They each have their own easy chair to curl up in next to the fire. Sometimes Meadow will do embroidery there while Mike reads.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1285603-LogCabin-LivingRoom.jpg

The bathroom is simple and in-keeping with the style of the house, and they each have their own rooms with quilts Meadow made. Mike has his bug collection and a TV to keep up to date on events and sports. Meadow has a lovely little sewing nook which she uses constantly in the evenings. She made both their quilts and the curtains throughout the cabin. She doesn't have much interest in sewing clothes for them, but as part of their dream to be entirely self-sufficient, she is learning. Making fitted shirts is much harder than just sewing back on the occasional button.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1285602-LogCabin-SewingCorner.jpg

Their kitchen is a lovely little gem. Its just big enough for the two of them and they grow and cook organic as often as they can. Meadow loves spreading flowers, home-made quilts and decorations all throughout the house. Once a month, they go into town for the local farmers market and their favorite is homemade jam - strawberry and apricot.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1285601-LogCabin-Kitchen.jpg

When the weather is nice, they can eat outside on their flower porch. After dinner a porch swing overlooking the lake is nice for winding down in the evenings and just listening to the forest.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/1/0/5/2/6/7/5/MTS_Phaenoh-1285604-LogCabin-FlowerPorch.jpg

The twins go hiking every chance they get, and take camping trips on the weekends. They are very happy that they don't have to go far to the trail heads or have much time blocked out anymore to enjoy their outdoor activities. They are just getting settled in, but with the house entirely paid for, they are considering going jobless and just living life as they believe it should be lived - as close to nature as possible. The house with more photos is available for download (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=473442).

Round 4 - Rain Montenegro

For Raina Montenegro (yes I'm renaming her a tiny bit), I really wanted to do something different. Being the struggling artist that she is, she can't really afford a single family home. So she's renting an apartment in the Oasis Apartment Building. The landscaping of the building has a desert like feel, with a small pond, "oasis," in the back, even though it's situated in a lush green neighborhood.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1285642-round4_montenegro1.jpg
Raina's apartment is on the left. The potential neighbor's apartment is on the right. A complete mirror image of her apartment.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1285643-round4_montenegro2.jpg
The landlord is pretty flexible and allows his tenants to have a custom hobby room if they want one. Raina loves hers dedicated to her various art projects. She even got a sink installed for quicker clean ups.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1285644-round4_montenegro3.jpg
She loves her bright green kitchen.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1285645-round4_montenegro6.jpg
Her living/dining room area is perfect for her - and a couple of friends to hang out.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1285646-round4_montenegro7.jpg
Her art studio is good enough for her to work on her projects.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1285647-round4_montenegro8.jpg
This is where she rests after a long day of work.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/7/3/8/3/4/1/MTS_aaries16-1285648-round4_montenegro9.jpg
And she'll sometimes gather inspiration from the "oasis" in the back as well as from walking around the neighborhood.

So after moving 2 times (first out of their round 2 home, then out of a different round 3 home, because I change my mind a lot) Layton and Lucinda Lewis found the perfect home. Lucinda knew when she saw it and it brought back fond memories of summers at her grandmothers in Mexico, that it was the home for them. The girls could finally have their own rooms, and Layton and Lucinda finally had their own bathroom!

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1285682-lewis1.jpg The simple landscaping (meaning less yard work) was a draw, as well as the pool and patio with built in bbq area.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1285683-lewis2.jpg The first floor opens into a small foyer and slightly raised living room to the left. Large eat-in kitchen. Laundry room off of the half bath.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1285684-lewis3.jpg Second floor. The three girls' rooms and their bathroom. The master bedroom with en suite bathroom.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1285685-lewis4.jpg Lucinda had a wonderful time decorating the new house. She absolutely loves the new "Through the Years" photo arrangements for the girls.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1285686-lewis5.jpg kitchen with hand tiled table and slightly mismatched chairs.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1285687-lewis7.jpg Lara decorated her room in her teams colors and hung pictures of all her favorite athletes.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1285688-lewis8.jpg Leanne wanted a classic look to compliment all of her classic literature.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1285695-lewis6.jpg Lorrie's love of music definitely shows in her choice of decor.

*totally unimportant side note* When the Lewis family moved from their Victorian they were living in for the first part of round 3 they got rid of their St Bernard and got an English Mastiff. (They had a St Bernard because I made some victorian paintings for the old house with Bernies and kids, but for some reason the St Bernard just didn't feel right with the new house. Sounds weird I know, but I'm weird so, hey, lol)

Too many people give up pets when they move, and now its happening in Sims as well?>!? Please tell me that they at least found a new family for their tired-of pet. :call:

(irl, my kitty just went through tummy surgery. We could have lost her to a tumor blocking her intestines preventing her from keeping any food down. Luckily she is back home again now and very hungrily eating, and more importantly, not throwing it back up. She lost half her body weight during this crisis!)

Yay your kitty is feeling better. And actually she still lives with the other Lewis family in the Victorian because the family also got a little bit of an overhaul with this move, lol.
I hate that in the sims 3 you can't edit a family in the bin like you can in 2... so many times it has irritated me. This was one of them.

For Mike and Meadow Barkworth we have a lovely, rustic cabin tucked into the foothills on the very outskirts of SimCity:
http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_m26mrsHEss1rqfd7oo1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAI6WLSGT7Y3ET7ADQ&Expires=1334011027&Signature=hRVg2NK9RxyvA%2BTisCEIv5%2BZYOw%3D

This simple, single-floor home contains a large living/dining area with antique fixtures and a stone fireplace, a sizeable bedroom with adjoining bath, a small back porch that's perfect for stowing plants, and a flat space for gardening.
http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_m26mrsHEss1rqfd7oo2_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAI6WLSGT7Y3ET7ADQ&Expires=1334011142&Signature=jHyguO6X%2FMKXWt9453nusoR9%2Blk%3D

Upon moving in, Meadow gets straight to work quilting and sewing, and many of her creations adorn the walls (and bed) of the new home. Mike, a craftsman, adds his own touches--homemade bookcases and a small set of birdhouses, perfect for attracting wildlife to their big backyard! (decor pictures attached)

I just want to say thanks for running this contest, I've had a lot of fun and I've certainly enjoyed looking at all the fabulous houses everyone has done. I really just wanted to improve my building skills and to finally learn how to put on a stupid roof without using autoroof. Well I did finally learn that and a lot more as well. I've been very busy rebuilding and making over lots in my hood and have bulldozed some very unattractive houses for which my Sims are very grateful. :D

Now on to round 4.

On a tight budget Rain Montenegro was lucky to find a little house on the outskirts of town. The yard is a bit overgrown, the bathroom a little old and the floors certainly could stand to be refinished, still Rain fell in love with the house once she saw the floor to ceiling windows in the back room overlooking the terrace and little pond.

She had to buy most of her furniture at flea markets and yard sales and it all doesn't exactly match but she doesn't spend much time out of her studio anyway. One of these days she might get around to dealing with the overgrown and weedy yard but for now she's happy to paint it as is.

She has a few finished canvases about the place and hopefully one of these days she will actually sell on of them.

I've finally found the time to build my Entry 4 lot! This is inhabited by my last available family: The Gravel Family - Tyler Gravel is a romantic, fitness fanatic and rising athlete. He wants his house to have a modern feel, and the wow factor that will impress all the ladies. A home-gym is a must, and a swimming pool outside would be his idea of perfection. Tyler also wants a guest bedroom for when his family fly in to town to watch his matches.

Well all righty then! Tyler, how about this house? It's a 2 bedroom 2 bath with an open concept living area, loads of outdoor play area, a pool and hot tub, a semi-private workout room attached to your top floor master suite, and a rooftop garden around two sides of the bedroom which creates a sense of intimacy in spite of the big windows.

Speaking of big windows, you will NOT want for lack of natural lighting: they're everywhere! Take a look:
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GsGPdwPnwSw/T4uSGQlqj2I/AAAAAAAAEGQ/lIgqqtMVWXU/s800/Screenshot-17.jpg

From above, it looks like this:

See where it looks like there's a break in the roof? That's your garden, with lush plants.

https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-EvlK3QVvrh8/T4uSDqVz0FI/AAAAAAAAEF4/KvwKJFsulWs/s800/Screenshot-8.jpg

Top floor. (You can see some of the main floor too. That's because that area on the left of the rooftop garden uses a frieze, allowing for a raised ceiling in that area without breaking the rules.)

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-_11X7UW1Fek/T4uSEjhIIRI/AAAAAAAAEGA/SpDg8B76Vbs/s800/Screenshot-9.jpg

The main floor. Yes, those are planters in the alcoves on either side of the entry. This is where you find the open living area, as well as a small guest bedroom and a three piece bathroom.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-d0AnTq3RaSo/T4uSFR5CTjI/AAAAAAAAEGI/cybR6BF0J3E/s800/Screenshot-10.jpg

From the bar area, you have a commanding view of the entire living space so that you can interact with your guests, or prepare a quick drink for the lady friends. :heyhey:

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-abOGmSx1qXk/T4uSHA4sT2I/AAAAAAAAEGY/YxwhjkqrFTo/s800/Screenshot-16.jpg

Here's where you work out, but also where you bring the ladies... Stunning views on two sides are mitigated by lush plantings just outside your room.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4G0TAjkHUd8/T4uSHx0E_xI/AAAAAAAAEGg/4hZu0j7e-sw/s800/Screenshot-11.jpg

Access to your bedroom and workout room is via this spiral staircase, tucked out of the way so as to not distract the attention when you're entertaining.

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-BPtxh_rK0uc/T4uSIpswNII/AAAAAAAAEGo/SW_s6s5aT50/s800/Screenshot-14.jpg

Water. Fire. Pool, hot tub and did I mention the fire pit? all kinds of ways to get ... relaxed.

I'm aware that I will lose points on the finished-ness of the house, and if a description was required, this post is really lacking on one. CC was minimaly used, the required pics are up, and in decent size - no photoshopping what so ever used. The pictures, some are dark cause they are all process pictures.

That's about it. Thank you for the host for this awesome contest :)

Sorry for the double post, but since you can't edit your entries ;)

The foundation is the shape required even though it looks like it's missing a piece where the chimney is. The wall makes the hole, foundation is intact. This is due to the way the lighting acts in game, so if I had made the wall so that it goes inside the chimney, it would have appeared ridiculously dark. So yeh, just wanted to explain. (Excuses!!!)

Sorry, my life just sort of exploded in the last week, so I am too exhausted to come up with a backstory of any kind... Here's the pictures before I face-plant into my keyboard.

The master bedroom is actually done with a roof, I just didn't put ceiling tiles in.

Thanks for hosting the contest! Can't wait to see who wins!

I've recently gotten a copy of TS3 base game so the Barkworth family has found they needed to immigrate. Their log cabin was built with base game content in lovely Sunset Valley. The house is waiting for it's new owners to unpack the last of their knick knacks and officially move in.

Um, didn't White ask about switching between the two games and get told that it wasn't allowed?

She did, and was not allowed, no.

Yeah, unfortunately... Rosebud1773, I can't accept a Sims 3 entry for your last round as you've submitted all the rest in Sims 2! If you still want to submit a Sims 2 entry, there is still a good 3 days left and we'll accept that entry! Sorry! :(

Cute entry Rosebud, just rebuild it in TS2. You can do it! :)

As I did not see anything in the rules regarding switching between games, I did not think it would be an issue. Given the fact that I had very little time to reconstruct this due to my current class load, it is far from my best house. There were also structural issues and other limitations while rebuilding between games.

It's a bit late now, but maybe next time it'd be a good idea to add all the rule-related QAs to the first post, so no-one misses out on any restrictions/clarifications.

*This has been an extremely fun contest! Thanks Wgroome for hosting it! When I finally settled on this New Orleans style home (after several other "starts" as with the Lewis family) I realized it's kind of difficult to add in Mardi Gras decor for a girl who hates purple!!! lol. *

Rain was drawn to the diverse culture of Faux Orleans, so when she moved out of her parents to pursue art, she headed straight for Faux Orleans. This beautiful home grabbed her attention right away.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1288910-1.jpg The brick exterior walls were already painted green, so that was a plus for Rain.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1288911-2.jpg The first floor features a living room, kitchen, laundry and half bath.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1288912-3.jpg Second floor: Bedroom, studio, full bath and open landing space Rain has converted to a reading area

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1288646-5.jpg The living room is decorated with Rain's artwork, including some things she painted directly on the walls. It's also a favorite napping place of Dali (dog) and Escher (cat)

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1288649-7.jpg The reading area also feature some wall art by Rain and some Mardi Gras masks

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1288647-6.jpg Over her bed Rain hung a piece of art she did in high school that has always been a favorite.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1288645-4.jpg Most of the time Rain can be found in her studio painting or sculpting or sketching (can't see the sculpting station or draft table in this pic, but you can in the overhead)

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/5/6/0/3/1/3/MTS_jones7659-1288648-8.jpg Her back yard menagerie are poised by her haphazard garden.

*Thanks again Wgroome. And thanks to everyone else who participated! I've really enjoyed myself and have loved seeing all the other wonderful entries! :gjob: everyone! And yes, I just realized I somehow forgot to give her a stool for her drafting table :( *

*EDIT* Thanks to Wgroome allowing us to edit our final entries, Rain now has a stool for her drafting table and a dining table indoors. And thanks to Jaguwar's help, the ground floor shutters are back! :D

Also I would like to add, but didn't want to edit my entry, the ground floor does have shutters also, but for some reason when I go up a floor they disappear. This always happens in my game, I don't know if others have the same problem, but I promise they are there! lol

Our last home offered by SimCity Realty is for one Tyler Gravel, up-and-coming football star and ladies' man extraordinaire. This house has a modern flair to reflect Tyler's status as a young, popular athlete famous throughout Sim City.
http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m2vcriMN3i1rqfd7oo1_1280.jpg

The main floor of Tyler's new home features a two-story fountain in the entryway, a spacious open living/dining area, and a home gym with a private shower room.

http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m2vcriMN3i1rqfd7oo5_1280.jpg
The large backyard offers a pool perfect for cross-training and a jacuzzi to soothe sore muscles, as well as plenty of space to sunbathe or host a barbeque.
http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m2vcriMN3i1rqfd7oo6_1280.jpg

The second floor is equipped with two large bedrooms and two baths. The open hallway is brightly lit and contains a stylish reading nook.
http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m2vcriMN3i1rqfd7oo3_1280.jpg
The master bedroom is perfect for Tyler, decorated to his taste in seductive tones of red, black, and white. The room's front alcove, decked out with candles and an impressive leopard-skin rug, is perfect for more intimate conversations with guests; while the small, sunny workspace near the bathroom allows Tyler room to indulge in his serious side when in private.
http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m2vcriMN3i1rqfd7oo7_1280.jpg
The second bedroom (also with its own adjoining bath) is reserved for Tyler's parents, whenever they come to see his games. This room is done in more reserved tones than the rest of the upstairs so as not to offend their sensibilities, but still retains the same modern feel as the rest of the house.

(Build notes: yes, there is a roof. It kept disappearing when I dropped the camera to street level. The weird pixelation along the roofline is a byproduct of having floor tiles against the wall-windows--there was nothing I could do about it. Also, there *is* deco in the master BR on the wall/floor near the doorway, but due to the angle and the black paint you can't really see it.)

Thank you to wgroome for hosting this challenge. It's been a lot of fun! And thanks to everyone who has been judging!

Yes, that's a setting under "options", something about hiding objects on other floors. I discovered the problem the first time I tried using the TAB camera to make sure I got a proper view of my ceilings: furniture disappeared on lower floors! Changing the setting solved the problem... but increased lag a bit because the house was pretty big and loaded with *stuff*.

Thanks! I didn't know that. It's always irritated me.
