So, I put my .sim file in my saved sims folder. It's in it's proper location as:
C:\Documents and Settings\My User Name\My Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\SavedSims
The .sim file is correctly placed within the folder. I start up my game, load into my saved game and I go to create a new sim. So I look in my sim bin and the sim is there. However, when I click on the sim it shows up as invisible. There's nothing there. No sim, nothing.
It is a downloaded sim, and I did download the sliders and all the CC that goes along with it. Might I add I downloaded quite a few of other sims too and this just started happening to me recently. Every sim I download now just shows up as invisible. If anyone could help me with resolving this problem, I would be very grateful.

What happens if you try changing the clothes of hair, or whatever, of the invisible sim?
Is the Basics button always missing, or only when you've picked a downloaded sim from the Sim Bin?
If you make a random sim using all EA stuff, save it to the bin, then restart the game and try using that sim - does the same problem occur?

Is your game patched to at least patch 1.26, or do you have Pets? What you're depicting is what happens if you have not updated to patch 1.26 or installed Pets, and you downloaded a sim made by someone who does have Pets or patch 1.26. Pets and that patch changed the way CAS is set up, and if you haven't updated your game and you download a sim made by someone who has, what happens is that you get a thumbnail pic of the sim in your sim bin, but when you click on them, there is no sim in front of the mirror.

@ whiterider
It won't allow me to change the color of the hair, the hair itself or anything on the sim due to the basic button being gone.
The basic button is very much missing on only downloaded sims. I have tried changing the clothes but the game crashes when attempted to do so.
I've tried that, and that works.

My sims is currently patched at 8.0.152. I don't have the pets expansion yet. However, I contacted the creator of the downloaded sim and she has the exact same patch as me.
Maybe it's a downloaded file? Or maybe my cache files?

8.0 doesn't tell us what the actual version is - you need the basegame version for that. 8.0 can mean anything from 1.22 to 1.31.

Oh I see. So how would I be able to tell what version I have?

Hover over the basegame icon in the launcher.
