View Full Version : Has the camera always been so low, or did a patch change it?

I haven't played in a while, so I don't know if I'm confused, or what. I notice when you right click a sim's portrait the camera centers on...their feet. If you zoom in as far as possible, the camera zooms in on their feet. The camera also sits a really big distance away from a sim, too, and it rotates really far away from the screen, if that makes sense...I thought it was closer to Sims 2? :blink:

I got the No Drift Lower Level Camera Mod, but it's also really far from the sims when you focus on them, and it still doesn't seem to rotate "close enough" to the screen. :| Am I imagining things or did it used to be higher up and closer to your screen? I'm really getting annoyed by it :rofl:

Here are some pictures! Click them to see the descriptions of what I mean.

EDIT! Well, I modified the no drift camera, and it was actually really easy to get the camera up to about bellybutton level. The game looks so much nicer now. It's so much easier to use the camera. :D

On Win7 there is a package called GameplayData located in C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin\Gameplay

There is a camera XML file in this package that controls the game camera. I don't know what settings were altered in the no drift mod, as I don't use it. If you alter this value
<kTargetMinPosHeight value="0.5" />
it will allow you to go low but will not default to that height. I changed the 0.5 to 0.1 in a mod, cuz I like to be at pet level sometimes...

Yes, I changed that in the No Drift mod. :) I made mine 1.3. 1 seems to be at sim waist level, 1.3 is just near the middle of their chest. Feels like Sims 2 except easier to move around. If you put it at, like, 6...it'd probably be like a 3D version of the SIms 1 camera distance :lol:.
