View Full Version : Change sim's position on chair/sofa

Hey
I'm a fairly new modder and created a Barcelona chair a few days ago. The problem is that my new mesh is lower than the clone mesh I used. What I mean is that when a sim sits on my new Barcelona chair, it more likely "sits in the air" because the clone mesh I used was higher.
So I thought there must be a way to change the position of where the sim sits on the chair. Is it possible?

Thanks in advance

You have to edit the bones in the chair's RIG. The bone is called something like sit_template(sorry, it's been a while).

Owh, thanks for super fast reply!
I'm only using The Sims Workshop, and I guess that has to be done by using those other Sims 3 modding tools, S3PE and S3OC right?

Right. :)

Ok, so I guess I'll have to wait for someone else to answer how to do it because I have no bloody idea how those programs works. Or you could point me to some tutorial or something regarding this?

Edit: I actually found this thread (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=401882&page=1) after searching for RIG's and stuffs on Google. And you, cmomoney, was a part of that thread. Unfortunately, I feel like an idiot when reading that thread. I don't get anything

Well the easy way would be to make your mesh match the original height.

Yeah of course. I always try to use a clone which is as near as possible my new mesh, but sometimes it's impossible.
But I'm just a modder and builder and want to make houses and furnitures which looks realistic. I don't play so I don't really care about this problem. But for those who are the opposite to me, it could be annoying.

But for those who are the opposite to me, it could be annoying. All the EA living room chairs are the same height and generally people who want the animations to work correctly on their new chair match their mesh to the clone...not the other way around.

If you still feel inclined to make the clone match the mesh instead, as Cmo said, you'll have to change the rig on the clone. The rig thread you linked to is outdated. s3pe uses rig wrappers to allow you to edit the rig in s3pe now. There is no tutorial I know of that is exactly on the topic of changing a chair's rig. But if you don't really care about the problem it prolly isn't worth it to browse the forums to find the threads addressing similar issues. :)

Good to know that all chairs is the same height, won't have to search for the most suitable then..
But the Barcelona chair is quite special..if you're gonna match the new mesh with the clone mesh it will have to be too big and won't look realistic :)

Anyway, it sounds pretty tricky to mess around with the rig so I won't bother learning how to do. But thanks for the answers though, I'm a bit more clever now than I was before at least, which is good I guess :)

You need to install s3PE and Atevera's RIG plugin for it.
When in TSRW you click project contents(menu) and right click the RIG.
Choose open as package with s3PE.
s3PE will boot up with the RIG file in it'.
Right click the RIG again and choose RIG editor.
MAke your edits and save

Thanks BloomsBase. I just tried to do what you said because you made it sound so easy but I encountered a problem anyhow. When I right click _RIG in S3PE and choose RIG editor, nothing happens. Should a new window appear or anything else?

Should a new window appear or anything else? You should get the rig editor popup box. If you aren't getting that make sure you have the latest versions of both s3pe and the wrappers and that you've installed both correctly. :)

I did everything correct but can't get it to work. That Rig editor box won't pop up :(

I did everything correct but can't get it to work. That Rig editor box won't pop up :(If you have the current versions of both the test s3pe and the wrappers and the box isn't popping up then you prolly didn't do everything correctly. If you had the box would pop up. Make sure that anything from the wrappers download that is in a Helpers folder is put in the Helpers folder in s3pe. The others in the wrapper download need to go in the main s3pe folder. :) Also, if you aren't, you should be using the EZ install version of s3pe.
