View Full Version : Strange Error that is driving me up the wall

Hi :)

I posted this at the officials a couple of weeks back (I believe) but it got no response there.

Since then, I've tried to figure out this error myself. I've made some progress :) Here's the error:

http://i1131.photobucket.com/albums/m545/Conorsim-/error.jpg

If I scroll, there's a total of three WARNINGS. There's always three warnings. They say: "there was an error saving the file: ________/[world name]/lots/[lot ID]"
I've had this error for weeks now. I didn't do anything about it at first because it is, essentially, harmless. It says it doesn't save but it does.

I've been looking everywhere and I've found nothing about an error like this. If there is a thread/info about it, then please link it. :lovestruc
Anyway, I've been doing my own examination on the error. Since it mentions errors about saving files about lots, I deleted those files. But that didn't work. The files regenerated.
But then the other day I saved this particular world and the save was successful. I was really confused. I doddled with the terrain a bit and saved. Save failed.
Now, i think I know what causes the error. Whenever I use the terrain tools or road tools, the save fails, and whenever I place a lot, the save fails. But, if I place a few objects from the metadata alone, it's a success.
But now I'm after noticing that, when I place a lot and place a tree and save (with The Error), exit and load the world back, the lot is not there but the tree is.
I've deleted the cache many times, btw, to see if that had any effect. It didn't. :wtf:

Sorry if this post is long, I just want to give ye as much information as I can so ye can hopefully diagnose this strange error. It never bothered me before, as I was only terrain painting but now that I'm placing lots it's awful! The lots vanish when I save and reopen! And sorry again if this is a known error that I don't know about! :duck:

Thanks for any help. It'll be appreciated very much.

Try deleting the .settings file for your world, as simsample always suggests to me when this occurs, if it works after the .settings file is deleted it just means it corrupt and it will generate a new one to match the world. If it doesnt work I'd suggest working off of the last working backup.

Hi, Riptide :)

I will try that right away, thank you!

No, see ... the thing is I can't work off the latest backup. I continued to work on this world since I got the error weeks ago, way back in early Feb - i think it was. After figuring out the error didn't really do any harm I said, "I'll chance it" and I continued to work away. I'm only enquiring about it now because I'm placing lots :D

No - deleting the .settings file did not work. :(

I've been considering deleting all lots from the world, as the error relates to not being able to save a lot file (or something). I have all built lots in my library, so it's not problem. I'll have to record all lot sizes before I delete, though. Still though, not a problem. I mean, there's a problem with one of the lots - or multiple lots - and I don't know which one it is, so getting rid of all of them might work.

You think I should do that?

Try placing the lots in EIG instead of in the CAW tool, and use velocitygrass's Any Lot Size mod to make custom sized lots, and save it in EIG.

Doesn't placing lots via the world editor crash EIG, though? I've never tried it myself, but that's what I heard. But I will try it. If I can get EIG to save. :(

Thanks for helping, btw :)

No Prob, I've placed lots using EIG, it works - at least on my end.

Conor, the only times I've had this is when there is a problem with one or more of the lots. You just have to find out which one(s), and that is tricky!

The best thing to do is to make a safe backup of your world before you do anything so that you can revert to that should anything go wrong.

Then, try deleting the last few lots that you added and see if you can save without error. If not, try removing more. It's just a case of finding the problem lots. You'll need to replace those lots.

Sample :)

Yes, that was my idea too. I'll start deleting the lots that I've placed recently, or at least tha last lots that were placed ... I'll report back if it fixes the issue. Thanks again :D

I was deleting the lots two-by-two, saved but still no sign of Save Succesfull! I was down to the last 15 but I just went ahead and deleted them all. Good news - it worked LOL.

Thanks for the help sample :)

It might be worth restoring your backup and testing by just deleting those last 15 lots- that way if it workd you won't have to replace them all. Whenever it's happened to me it's always been a single lot responsible, so I think it's probably save error.

I had a similar error with one lot. Fortunately I knew which one it was. My error was caused by objects overhanging the lot boundary. That'll teach me to place lights on a fence on the lot edge.

That's useful to know, bradyseitz! Thanks.
