My game is up and running now, but incredibly slowly and it's very choppy. I figure it's probably some CC, but although I know tools exist for PCs to find it, none exist for Mac (as far as I know). I'm computer illiterate so I don't know how to make VirtualBox work, either.

And, I know the slowness isn't a computer issue since it was working fine several installations ago.

Read this (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=366580) thread for using the package manager. There's multiple options, including VirtualBox, but others too. If you'd rather not do that, do the Finding Problem Custom Content FAQ (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_Finding_Problem_Custom_Content).
When you say it was working fine, several installations ago, do you mean you have installed more expansion packs since it ran well? If that's the case, could you post your specs (Click on the Apple icon (top left corner of your screen) > About This Mac > More Info, and then copy + paste what it says there in Hardware Overview and Graphics.)? Installing EPs ups the requirements.
