View Full Version : Love it or Hate it? AND ... Why is ST listed as EP8?

I came to this section because I wanted to see if players were posting opinions about the EP itself, and not the bugs and glitches. I have not yet bought it, but I want to when the storm of problems settles.
With that thought, what do current players have to say about it -- IF it was an EP that was working properly as intended. What is its entertainment value? Do you love it or hate it? (based on gameplay and potential for entertainment, NOT bugs or technical issues.)
AND
Why in the EP listings for this forum section, all of the EP's are numbered sequentially through EP5 and then all of a sudden ST is EP8?
I don't think I've missed any EP's, but this has me wondering.
Thanks!

First, u don't miss any EP. It's....a fault, maybe? ST, OR SHT, is the 6th EP.
Second, I LOVE SHT. It's....better than Late Night, IMO. In LN, we will get gigs (rarely!). But in SHT, we search and auditioned for the gigs! XD
Well, that's what I want to say, for now. :)

I think it's entertainment value is pretty good compared to other EP's. The ShowT venues are just as good a venue type as the LateNight venues. The performance careers are similar to the Ghosthunter and Fireman active careers, but these are much more varied. The Sing-a-gram which the singer can do is similar to the ghosthunting and firefighting, but those two careers have only the "sing-a-gram", like "sing-a-ghost" and "sing-a-fire". There's nothing else one can do in those careers.
In these ones there is also the practicing and playing for tips, one can go on stage when there is a SimFest, and acquire the gigs; so it is much more varied.
Also the DJ Booth is cool and there are more things added than usual, like the pool table, skee ball, dominoes, the table arcade games, the golfing.
Also, the loading screen is better than all the others, lol.

I love the new expansion pack; Showtime, Pets, and Late Night have to be my favorite expansion packs. Even though I have all the expansion packs and enjoy them all, those three stand out a bit (to me, at least).
I even like Starlight Shores, too, even though some of the crybabies on the forum think EA jipped us, they say that with every expansion pack, and a lot of them hated the Sims 2 but still bought it anyways when it was out, so I wouldn't pay them any mind.
The new objects and careers added definitely compliment Late Night very well (if you have it). Some of the best neighborhood deco and rabbit holes to date were added with this pack, too. The singing domes (Bender Clips and Hoi Palloi) also function as sports and theater rabbit holes, so you can make some space for them since they're rather large.

I like it a lot. Even though I've not yet done any of the real SHT things like done any of the careers, simported and so on, I've really enjoyed the new items that came with it.

I'm actually a little surprised at how much I like it. Starlight Shores is my favorite town to play now, because of the size. After adding a few new venues (late night themed,) the town feels like a Sunset Valley version of Bridgeport - no huge apartment buildings to load!
Not a huge fan of the careers, I've done both Singer and Acrobat. I preferred Singer over Acrobat, but then again, my Acrobat Sim would stop what she was doing and start performing, no matter where she was. That was annoying.
Some of the clothes are cute, although the shoes baffle me a little, and the hairs, to me, look like something created at three in the morning at a slumber party. They're not awful, but I'd prefer to wear something else!
I actually like the EA-built houses, I'm not having to completely gut them and re-do them before playing, which is nice. The SHT venues could use a little work, but I'm finding I actually like the have-to-ask-proprietor-for-juice thing, although I don't know exactly why!
Overall, I'm happy that I bought the EP, and I'm having a lot of fun playing it.

LOL. Yeah it is. Thanks. :)
Thank you, everyone for your responses. Some of the things I've read over in the official forum made me glad I have continued to wait before buying this. But then I read some things that sound like people are having fun with it and I don't want to wait anymore! LOL.
Oh well. I am happy to hear some of you love it. I am certain I will get it now. I just think I will wait awhile longer. My game is running so well right now; I really don't want to screw that up!
Thank you.

Howdy, guys!
It's been awhile since I was on the MTS boards.
I ran out and got Showtime and Master Suite today and I'm impressed with both. (I haven't really explored all aspects of the game, yet.) At first, I thought Showtime was going to be SHT. (Pun intended?) But it really surprised me. My only qualms are about this SimPort business.
Other than that, I'm pleased as punch. I love the new traits, the lifetime rewards, the 'hood - the whole kit and caboodle.

I have played it since it was released. First, I am going to tell you, I make myself play TS3 because I paid good money for it, so I might as well try to 'love' it.
Anyway, Showtime is o.k. I'm not going to give you a candy-coated opinion.
It is redundant in many areas. For instance, the singer career. In your job description you have three things you must do before leveling up. Perform Sing-A-Grams, Sing for Tips, and get Gigs (you have to be level 2 before you can audition for gigs.).
Unlike TS1, SuperStar, your audition is the very same animation every time you go to any of the venues you are allowed to apply at. (Some venues require a higher level).
Also, even though your Sim may be level 8 or 9 etc...you are still required to do Sing-A- Grams. Even more so it seemed in my game. If you don't, the map gets covered with maptags...(but there is also a glitch with those not disappearing if they expire). And again, it is the same animation each time..for every Sim you go sing to. Howver the Celebrations Sing-A- Gram can catch your Sim on fire, so maybe you should go along with the camera to make sure you can put them out. :jest:
There are other redundant things like that in this EP. And without Simporting there really isn't much in it...if you look in the Collections folder it is very small/objects etc.
The biggest amount is in Stage Props.
The town isn't really big enough to add any of your other LN, or other EP venues. The bars for the SHT Proprietor's don't sell food (need a hack) and though it is a lovely souther Cal. town, it is a little empty.
I won't go into the bugs of the game, there are many, but you may tire of it after you have reached level 10 in all 3 careers.

I like it..which surprised me, but only along with the rest of the game. Some folks play the game, get bored, put it away and then get it out when the new EP comes out. Then they spend the next week playing only the Showtime features. If I did that, I would hate it. It is repetitive, just like the other professions in the game. Once you send one singer through the entire profession, you will find your next does pretty much the same thing.
I like the new world although not as a main hood. It is nice to use with the Traveler mod. I like most of the new items and some of the clothing. So if you play one EP at a time, you might find this one lacking. But if you play with your family/families and just use this as an add-on to everything else, you will probably enjoy it...well, depending on how you play.

I didn't realize people played expansions one at a time, that's odd to me as I like to go back and update my lots/families with the new items and features. I guess I do occasionally start a new family so they can experience the features 'right off the bat.'
I haven't gotten to experience much actual gameplay but if it's similar to late night I'm sure it'll be entertaining. I am happy with the look of the new rabbit holes. I've never been able to get a neighborhood to look 'right' as once you add in all the community lots it looks chaotic with such a mixture of architectural styles and colors.

You force yourself to play a game that you dislike? How...odd. (The point of games...I think you're missing it.)
To the OP: I am having a lot of fun playing in Starlight Shores. I integrate each EP into my normal way of playing so I don't go out of my way to play all of the EP features in one go. So even though I have only had one sim in a Showtime career, my sims are enjoying the new places to go and the new shows to see.

Funny, Sometimes I have to force myself not to play because I love it.

I hate the fact that the game holds store content I purchased HOSTAGE by saying I don't own it until I login with my email account. I think that is instrusive.

It's not my favorite expansion pack, but it does add some nice things to my game to make neighborhoods more lively. I like it, but if I had to pick one expansion pack to get rid of, SHT would be it.

I just love the more geometric/modern styles of furniture in the game. I also love the dimensional gate upgrade you can give to the Electro Dance Sphere.
