View Full Version : Sound Cutting Out Mid-Game

Hello! I just installed Showtime yesterday and while there aren't any huge problems, there's one thing that seems to be coming up repeatedly. The sound for my game randomly cuts out/goes on indefinitely mid-action. What cuts out also varies. The first time it happened, my sims were socializing and all sound in the game stopped. I checked to make sure I didn't accidentally mute my computer and then checked that I hadn't muted anything in game. I tried muting everything in game and then unmuting it afterwards and that also didn't work. The second time, I was at a SimFest and the music that accompanied an act went on for about ten minutes in real life. It didn't stop when I left the lot. After about ten minutes, it suddenly stopped and my game played every single sound that it should've made during the period that the music was playing before continuing as normal. The last time, my sims was performing for tips and the sound cut off in the middle of her song. But unlike the first time, where everything went silent, only the voices and music went away. The sound of cars passing and birds chirping stayed. This time, the sound didn't come back for at least an hour and upon returning, my game crashed as it again tried to play every single sound.

Does anyone have any clue of what could cause this? Thank you so much for any help!

This is a really common one, I've lost track of all the things that cause it now. Overwatch (http://nraas.wikispaces.com/Overwatch) helps with some, and twoftmama (http://simsasylum.com/tfm/) has some mods which nuke certain sounds and sound effects which are known to cause everything else to cut out. Unfortunately there's no way that I know of to identify the cause in one specific case, so it's pretty much a question of throwing everything at the problem and seeing what sticks.
