I'm trying to clean up my downloads folder and that includes all of those ugly deceiving photo-shopped clothes I've ever downloaded. Can I do that by using the clean installer?
I'm scared that I'll accidently delete a mesh I need that has several recolors that I'm trying to get rid of.

Best way I know of to delete clothes:
Download Delphy's Download Organiser and separate all the recolours to a new folder.
Download CatOfEvilGenius's tooltip adder (it's in the Sims Tools subforum here, NOT the regular downloads) and add filenames as tooltips to all your recolours.
Open Command Prompt on your computer and go to your directory of recolours. Type dir /b >list.txt. This will list all the files in the folder.
Open (or print) your list. Open Bodyshop. Go through all your stuff, hovering over things to see what they're called. Mark on your list if you're keeping them or deleting them.
When done, exit Bodyshop and DELETE ALL THE THINGS!
Then open the Download Organiser again and scan for any orphaned meshes left behind. Isolate orphans until you're sure they're real orphans.
Tada! Clean folder!

Yup. And here's the thread: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=321239 - I wanted to get my reply done quickly, but I thought it'd be helpful to hunt it down anyway. ^^ I actually squealed out loud the day I found out it existed. Everyone should know about that program!

But if you just want lets say 2 recolours of one mesh but currently have 10 different recolours; isnīt the easiest way to just delete the unwanted recolours in Body Shop?

Well yeah, sure, that's easier if you've only got one or two thing to delete.
When you've got hundreds? In different ages and genders and categories and it sends you back to the start of the catalogue every time you hit delete? Not so much.

I didnīt mean to question anything other people said here. Iīm sorry if it soundet that way. It was just that personaly Iīm often in the situation that I have way more recolours of one mesh than I want to, and then I find it easiest to do like I said. If you have tons of different meshes and recolours that you donīt want, then sure; the best way to get rid of it is probably to do like other people here already mentioned.

Oh, I came up with my method when having an enormous cleanout and Bodyshop sending me back to the start irritated me after ten seconds, so that's when I started hunting for an easier way. As I ended up deleting over 2000 recolours, I kinda think doing in Bodyshop would've broken my brain. But really, if you've only got a few things and you find it easier, go for it!

I had the first one downloaded and just downloaded the catoofevilgenius one but have no idea what the heck Its for. What does adding filenames to tooltips even mean xD Does it just mean I'm renaming them?
Also some of my filenames have the word mesh in it but Delphy's organizer says they're just recolors is her program pretty accurate?
* Alright so I still don't think I'm getting the hang of it. A lot of the name files are just the creators name so there's no way I could find it in my folder, I think I'm missing something here...

The Download Organiser is pretty reliable. The only issue I've ever had is it telling me my elder hair recolours are clothes, but as they're still recolours, it doesn't bother me. As for Cat's tool, you know how in Bodyshop and CAS, when you hover the mouse over clothes, a little lable will pop up? Sometimes it's a useful label, such as "Peggy 4343 recolour by snapun - Volatile" and sometimes it's a totally useless "gold@peggyzone" or "shirt" or "Ģ$%&Ģ$%&"? Well Cat's tool changes the label to the files name. So if you hover over an item of clothing named 1fgde5shirtblue.package, that label will now say 1fgde5shirtblue.package too, so you can find it and delete it. The actual file names are unchanged.

How do I isolate them and find out if theyre 'real' or not

When you've done an orphan scan with the Download Organiser, there should be a ticky box to show orphans. You can select them all, right click and move them to a new folder, well away from your game. Then you can look at their names and see if they look like they belong with a set of recolours, and run the game and see if anything's missing that should be there. I gotta say, when I did this bit, I also used Wardrobe Wrangler and SimPE's orphan scanner and found that the DDO was the only one that gave me consistent results. But it's still not infallible.
