View Full Version : Interiors - An Interior Design Contest
5th May 2012, 03:21 AM
Note: Requires 10 contestants to take off.
This contest is basically a one room interior design contest. There will be an Application round, 3 rounds, and a final. In each round you will be given a specific room to design and over the course of the competition you will be able to chose from 5 different categories, but you may not choose one you already used. In each round you will be given a set of rooms to choose from and construct in those parameters.
Qualifications to host:
I have fully participated in wgroome's "Foundations for Families" contest, in which I received 3rd Place.
- The contest is open to TS3.
- Non-Elimination (Because it is mainly for fun)
- All Custom Content is allowed, but you will get extra points if you do without it.
- All EPs/Sps allowed (This includes Store Content)
- No Photoshop Allowed, unless its borders or text.
- Each round should fit a specific style, and contain all of the required objects for that round. If an object is unclear, please note it in your entry. (Ex. Some integrated fridges match the shelving and counters.)
- State the style in your entry.
- No budget unless specified.
- Editing the shape of the rooms will result in loss of points for each judge. (You are allowed to edit windows, doors, arches fireplaces and such because the rooms will have none.)
- Keep in mind - window placement doesn't necessarily have to look good on the outside, because the pictures are only indoors.
- Do not edit the size or shape of the room/rooms in the download unless there is an exception in the specific round specifications.
- One overview floorplan, 2 sim's eye view photos, and 2 "sims-in-action" shots in the room are required. 3 more optional pictures are allowed, to a maximum of 8 images total.
Note: You are allowed to remove the black flooring from the outside, I only added it to accent the room.
Also, note for the judges and contestants, contestants are allowed to rotate the room orientation, because it doesn't really affect the interior. They cannot mirror it though, plus it's already prebuilt, but they can rotate it on lots.
Note: Since the rooms are not built to accommodate fireplaces, since not everyone might want to place one, feel free to place the chimney of the fireplace outside of the room, or if you place it indoors to build a wall around it.
Round # - Style chosen
(Insert quick description of highlights and interesting features of the room.)
Room Layout Picture (Much like floor plan - Overhead View)
Required Pictures (2)
Optional Pictures (Up to 3)
Extra Notes about CC, or confusing content.
Since constructing one room is relatively an easier process than constructing a house, each round lasts 1 week (7 days) and ends at 11:59:59 GMT-7. The application Round will last 2 weeks, to allow for people to enter. The Rounds will not overlap, but I will release the requirements while the judging is occurring. Any entries submitted before the start of the next round will lose 5 points from every judge. The next round will start the day the scores are released.

Yay! First contestant, I just entered levini into the contestants box, also just an edit, the numbers of optional pics conflicted so I changed the number in the entry format to 3 to keep at the 8 pictures amount.
Aslo, since I forgot to mention this earlier, feel free to remove the black flooring outside of the floorplan. In case you use large windows so you can make the exterior nice. Since levini's entry isn't really affected by it, he doesn't have to change it
unless he wants to.
Also, levini, is the chair the box propped up against the wall, because I can't seem to find it.
7th May 2012, 10:35 AM
Riptide, I edited my entry to include a note about the Chair and the bookcase.
7th May 2012, 03:02 PM
All right, thank you.
7th May 2012, 07:32 PM
Riptide, can I put some of those rooms' designs in here? Of course, since I'm an emergency judge, I wouldn't be counted as a contestant, but is it allowed? It's okay if I can't, I'd totally understand! Thanks in advance! :)
7th May 2012, 10:18 PM
I'm sorry, but no.
If you would like to, I can ask heaven if I can make a chat thread and if I make one, feel free to post them there.
7th May 2012, 10:33 PM
Application - Classical
The room contains two doors, one to the bottom of the screen in the overheard view which would lead towards the rest of the house, and a set of double doors to the left hand side which would lead to a back or side yard. Windows are placed on only three sides of the room to add light to the room and there is absolutely NO custom content.

I inputted Reya's entry earlier today, and I'm sorry waterjay, but I'm not allowed to make a chat thread. We could end up using them as banners though, along with other pictures, feel free to PM them to me if that suits you.
8th May 2012, 08:09 AM
What's the ideal on store items? :)
8th May 2012, 11:11 AM
I would belive they are allowed, if that is what is being asked. whether or not if it counts as CC, I dunno.
8th May 2012, 03:04 PM
It does not count as CC, and it is allowed.
8th May 2012, 05:36 PM
My storyline is an older lady used to work at the theater and now she is retired. She lives in an apartment in Paris, loves food, reading, and keeps some birds in a cage. From time to time she collects new ingredients for her experimental food and keep them in some jaws in the livingroom. Sometimes she keeps them too long, but she can't just through it away. They didn't do that during the war :)
Style: International French.
2 pics from sims view:
2 pics from sim in action:
CC in these pictures: Floor and roof from TSR, either Brandon or Ayyuff
Plant from SasiliaTSR: little pot by the birds cage.
Plant from SimcredibledesignTSR: bigger plant on the floor by the Drawer.
Hanging plant from KateLysTSR: Above the Drawer.
TablePlant from Vitasims3: On the Drawer.
That should be all. The old lady should only have EA content on here.
9th May 2012, 03:44 PM
I see Riptide fixed the main post to show that Store Content does NOT count as CC. Just a note at the bottom as well for anyone who didn't get a chance to glance up at that or notice it. Store Content is official content and will not be counted as CC for the contest. Therefore, you may use what you like to your little heart's desire. :)
9th May 2012, 11:50 PM
I know this is a little early to start being in need of contestants, but I am choosing to extend the deadline for the application three more days bringing the total round time to two weeks. All the other rounds will stay the same.
10th May 2012, 01:17 AM
I think the contests need to be advertised because they are hard to find via the menus.
10th May 2012, 02:18 AM
I currently have it in my sig, any other ideas?
10th May 2012, 02:51 AM
I have the contest in my Siggy too :). anything else I can do would be appreciated.
10th May 2012, 03:35 AM
I spammed the contest to the Random Legacy-ers but I'll add it to my sig as soon as I get on a computer.
10th May 2012, 04:05 AM
Thanks levini and Reya, I really appreciate it :)

Application Round - Rustic
This living room is the crowning jewel in the home of a rancher who has better things to do than decorate. Enter through the river rock framed door (making sure to wipe your cowboy boots off on the braided rug) and enjoy the convenience of having all your working gear immediately at hand. Walk under the light fixture made from the antlers of a deer you probably hunted yourself and through the subtle divider formed by the supporting beams into the main area of the room. Use the solid ranch desk to budget out your weekly costs in salt licks, with a water pitcher on the stand nearby for when you realize finance is thirsty work. When you're done, sit back with a book or a piece of fruit on your hide couch. Don't worry about the fire burning in the hearth. The smart rancher knows he doesn't need a fire alarm when he has his wall-mounted lucky horseshoes hanging nearby.
Not a single piece of CC. However, the room is about 70% Store content. Okay, maybe 80%. Or 85%. Possibly 90%. But that's it!
11th May 2012, 07:06 AM
Do we have to do a 'grunge' style? Darn! I don't like grunge and I don't have any grunge cc.....
11th May 2012, 10:37 AM
I agree on the grunge, but I don't mind a challenge :)
Have added the contest to my signature, and I added a link on my blog the other day.
11th May 2012, 03:18 PM
Yes, but it doesn't necessarily have to use as much CC as levini's, I've seen people do grunge without any cc at all, although Tipsy OMSP would be a good piece to use "hint hint"
11th May 2012, 04:02 PM
For grunge I'm really considering throwing out the points and just doing a full on bdsm dungeon type room. But that all depends on previous points. I mean, hey if I end up being in second or third I won't want to throw the round, right?
11th May 2012, 10:50 PM
Adding to the numbers for ya :-)
Round 1 - Modern (Mid-Century)
Anyone who knows me knows I just can't do modern but with some lovely new sets out I couldn't resist using some Mid -Century items.
Using Danish style furniture this house has been decorated in retro style items sourced from second-hand shops. I have used some new Orla Keily patterns to enhance the retro look.
Room Layout Picture :
Most of the items are from the Benton set by AnoeskaB at TSR and B5Studio. The rest of the smaller deco items are from TSR too. There is a fair amount of CC but I wanted the room to look authentic to the period. The smaller room is decorated as a wooden garden room added on to the lounge.
12th May 2012, 04:04 AM
Thanks volvenom, also Rey's, that's be an interesting stretch from the usual, but I don't think it'll fit into any of the round rooms, since I know them ahead of time - host and all.
Sandy- ill enter ur entry into the table when I have access to a computer.
12th May 2012, 04:51 PM
Hey, hey, S&M dungeons totally count as living rooms. :P
12th May 2012, 05:19 PM
Or a garage, basement, "rec" room, bedroom, spare bedroom, or even the kitchen if I REALLY wanna bug people!
12th May 2012, 06:14 PM
or a bedroom hint hint
I saw a few complaining about Grunge CC, and just to prove you don't have to use CC to make a good grunge is this house: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=468030
14th May 2012, 04:25 AM
A great person to look at for inspiration for grunge type lots with little to no CC is Feldyn. Here is one of his lots that is amazingly grungy and no CC in sight! Sinner's Remorse (http://www.modthesims.info/d/410674)
14th May 2012, 06:08 AM
Thats true, Feldyn, makes great lots, I have taken inspiration from his train station on many occasions. Thats just to show you how possible it is.
15th May 2012, 09:44 PM
Round - Application – International Styles (African)
This cosy African styled room as a hardwood floor and six windows with their own African cotton curtains. The furniture is traditional African furniture while the artwork is exact replicas of some of the most famous, beautiful African originals. The large windows show a magnificent view of the sea which can be viewed more closely through the elaborately carved telescope.
Room Layout Picture
From the Eyes of a Sim Picture
Sim Action Picture
2 More Pictures (7 in Total)
I have at least:
1 Coffee Table
2 Items of Decor
1 Living Chair
I have no Custom Content but have tons of store content :p
16th May 2012, 01:58 AM
Alright, I'll put it in right now.
NOTE: The application round closes in 4 days, and we still don't have 10 participants.
16th May 2012, 02:51 PM
Application - Modern
This is the living room of an older middle aged couple who travel frequently and have brought home some interesting accent pieces, though the overall style is clean and modern. With no children around, it's feasible to have white everywhere - crayon stains are a thing of the past. The two focal points of the room are the fireplace and the window in the section with two lounge chairs.
No custom content.
16th May 2012, 10:34 PM
Sorry I've been extremely busy today, I'm inputting pandora's entry right now.
18th May 2012, 10:49 PM
Double Post Alert!
Reminder: The contest closes tomorrow at 11:59:59 PM, so if you still need to get your entries in!
20th May 2012, 09:55 AM
I am going to apologize ahead of time, but it seems this contest has not accumulated the proper amount of contestants to continue, and it will be locked a few hours if I do not accumulate 3 more.
We got some really great entries in the short period of time this contest ran, and I would like to thank the judges for volunteering and everybody for entering. I really appreciate it. Hopefully the next time I run a contest it will fare a little better.
