At First I was going to request someone doing this, but then I thought, No I i'll do it myself>=)
Which maybe quite overly ambitious for me but I'm determined to try.

I wanted to know how to remove a hat accessory from a hair

^specifically this hair from the store (http://store.thesims3.com/productDetail.html?productId=OFB-SIM3:35809&categoryId=&scategoryId=11960&pcategoryId=&ppcategoryId=&gender=female&startAt=30)

I love this hair mesh so much, but I want to remove the hat and perhaps edit the textures

I have a basic beginners knowledge of meshing in general, but I wanted to know if removing accessory from a hair the same process or am I able to skip some steps?

For example when I remove the hat, will there be any hair there or will I have to custom mesh the hair myself? which is ok, because I was hoping to do so depending if like was underneath it

Where do I go about starting? Please :help:

Hmm, interesting.
There's an initial problem in that, well, this is a hat hair, and as well as editing the mesh and textures, you'll need to "convert" it into a normal hair. The easiest way to do that, I believe, would be to extract the meshes and textures from this hair; but then clone a random normal hair, when the time comes to plug your edited mesh and textures back in. That saves you having to muck about with multiple textures and mesh groups and so on.

Apart from that, it's really no different to meshing anything else. There won't be any hair under the hat - you will have to mesh, and texture, it yourself. Hair textures are harder to draw than most other textures, because they're so detailed, but they're not really more complicated - they just require more time spent swearing at your graphics editor. :)

Thanks for the fast response:)
How would /where would I extract the mesh and texture files form this sims 3 store hair?
CTU and TSR workshop only use base game.
will I have to use sim PE?

SimPE wouldn't help you much, being a TS2 program. S3PE, however, would be the easiest way to get the mesh and textures - just open the file in S3PE (having extracted it from the sims3pack), tick the Names and Tags boxes at the bottom of the S3PE window, then select all the GEOM and _IMG resources, right-click and Extract -> To file. :)

I'm also looking into removing hats from hairs. There are some really great store hairs with really unfortunate hats. The katy perry sp also has some really nice hairs that are covered in candy crap hats. Is there by any chance a step by step tutorial on how to go about removing the hats and meshing and texturing the new hair? I'm a real noobie and I've never used the above programs, but I'd like to give it a try. Do you know of any useful tutorials?
Thank you

The thing is that you can do all the above with just basic meshing program knowledge, so you need to learn meshing basics for particular 3d modeling program first. The best way to do it is to look for some meshing tutorials written for that program, usually on the official website.
Only then you can move onto packaging meshes and textures properly for Sims 3, and this process is the same for making new hair and editing existing ones.
So basically what I'm trying to say is that there are no use from making such tutorial for Sims 3 (and there are no such as far as I know), since 95% of it will teach you the meshing basics and only 5% will be about Sims 3.

Check Wojeteks(?) blog, he just uploaded all of the KPST hairs without all that crap on them.
