Hi,
I hope this is the correct category. I am trying to convert a sims 2 curtain for use in sims 3. I used the lofty curtain clone, I have read through a vast amount of tutorials, but I don't know what I am doing wrong...
1. I import the extracted TS3 mesh and imported it via the TS3Object by wes, checked the draw vertices with bone colours option
2. Imported the extracted TS2 mesh as a wavefront obj
3. Went to groups tab, and chose the "curtain" group, and clicked select
4 (this is the problem part) The tutorial states to go to the joints tab after selecting and now the vertices should be yellow -- but mines stay white??
What am I missing? :|

You're probably just looking at the wrong vertices. The vertices of the TS3 mesh will be coloured, the TS2 mesh will be white/grey.

Which tutorial are you following and which step are you on?
I am following this >tutorial (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Tutorials:STF_Conversion_Tute_Step_10)< and its step 10. But I think I've figured it out, because the tutorial states to select the sims 2 mesh (turning it red) then to go to the joints tab, the vertices should now be yellow, and I think the person who wrote the tutorial forgot to add that you have to click assign then they turn yellow, but if I'm wrong lol please help me >bashes head off wall<
Edit: I have gotten quite a bit further in my conversion quest, although I do have a serious head ache, what with all the head bashing. Anyhoo ~ In the tutorial above I have hit a snag... this quote is from step 11 prepare image to create the alpha:
Now that you have correctly positioned your TS2 texture to match the UV map coordinates, It's time to make the new alpha. The alpha edits the shape of your final plant. The white portion blocks the game's CAS colors and it's where your TS2 texture will appear. To make the alpha, you will use the Layers box to do the work, then copy and paste the finished product into the channels box.
But I am converting a curtain, and obviously I want it to be CAStable? What do I do now ? :help:

Turn the TS2 texture grey (using the Desaturate option in your graphics program), ignore the stuff about alphas, and use that texture as the Multiplier instead of the Overlay. You'll then probably end up with the whole thing having one CASt channel - if you want to have two or more channels, I suggest using this tutorial to create the Mask texture: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=357139.
The names of the different textures will probably make more sense to you when you get a bit further through your current tutorial. :)

I am a little confused. When I extracted the images from the TS3 Clone, I extracted 4, I have already figured out masks as I've been doing tattoos and stuff, shirts and things, this is the first object. I have attached screen caps of the 3 files I have done following your help, desaturated the TS2 Texture, the original TS2 texture and added RGBA mask, I added a new layer filled with red, then added another layer, masked off yellow section, added another new layer and masked with magenta, then I added the alpha for the 4th what else do I need, as there are 4 IMG files that I exported from the TS3 Clone

The 4th might be a overlay, check if there is something on.
You can leave it blanc(DXT5interpolatedalpha)
Edit,
Or it is your specular texture, used to give a kinda reflection to some of the parts

well, you dont need the overlay.
It is a file used to bring in non recolourable detail.
The specular you can try out by autocontrast the desaturated screensshot you posted.
You will see the effect wat is does, then finetune to your liking.(make the parts you dont want a shine on darker)
