I made Katar as a child do the bed-making and homework half an hour after school. As a teen she cleaned the kitchen then played with the new toddler. And her brother Shadow did the trash as a child. And as a teen he cleaned the bathroom Then played video games with his siblings. It's gonna be like that for another 95 kids unfortunately. Sorry kiddos, Alisha's rules!

In the last legacy I was playing, kids would generally roam on high free will and do whatever they pleased. I made a couple of them use the chemistry set, do some writing, or go fishing though. Teens got to help with gardening and got more set roles in the family, but they still were mostly there to roam and socialize.
I mean, I don't know any kids who spend all day skilling up in real life. :P

Depends on what you identify as a skill................mine can type at blazing speeds on a little touchscreen, while juggling a dozen separate conversations, AND doing her homework.

I try to go with what their traits say. Otherwise they get boring. If they love outdoors, I try to keep them there, perhaps fishing or just running around. If they are couch potatoes or computer whizzes, they might play computer games or watch television.
They all do their homework - I almost always send them to the library and ask a random adult for help so it will go faster. Most of them cook on the oven so they can max out that skill. Many times, their food has better moodlets than whatever the parents cook so I have them make food for the whole house - which the mere idea that everyone in the house is living on Easybake cakes because they taste better than anything grownups can cook is kind of funny.

Study and do homeworks ;)
And then they can do whatever they want when they grow up

In the current generation of my legacy, one of the teens who everyone hated anyways was shipped off to Prep School (I think she's been there longer than the norm... she should have aged up a week ago) and two children, one teen and one child, don't do much of anything, I'm kind of more focused on the adults. My free-will has NEVER worked in my game (I've gone through two different computers) so I wish my sims could do "whatever they want" but they usually just stand around. My legacy has reached a dead-spot where I'm not determined to continue it anymore. My game keeps on crashing when I try to play anyways so eh.

My child/teen sims do more than their parents. Other than homework I pick three to five skills each need to learn based on their current traits and if cooking isn't already a skill I want them to learn I make them get at least one skill point in that too.
Child sims also work on a having one close non-family friend. Teens must start to date and get a part-time job, unless they have profitable skills like painting, sculpting, writing, and so on. Children and teens also help with younger siblings if they have any.
