View Full Version : Legal "Bath Salt" drug causing cannibalistic behavior in America

Apparently in the past month or so there has been more than one incident of people on a drug sold as bath salts becoming cannibals and acting like animals. One man ate the face off another man and was shot multiple times in order to stop, and another ate a person's heart. Apparently there are more cases but I haven't really researched this thing as much as some of my friends have. All I know is the "bath salts" increase body temperature causing people to go insane, and that the effects seem to be more extreme than meth and permanent. Do you guys know any more about this? All I know is that this stuff is happening all over America. What are your opinions about this?

Yeah I've heard about this too, there is also another case where a man took out his own intestines and threw them at police officers.

Zombie apocalypse is coming!!!

What's weird is that I've just had a dream about a zombie apocalypse happening in my town a few weeks ago and now this happened. I think I'm psychic.

My mom told me about the "Miami Zombie". He was the one who ate the homeless mans face. Basically, my opinion is that if something isn't done, then we will have a Zombie apocalypse on our hands...

'Cause once the known effects of a drug become "You will go on a killing spree and then be shot by police", it's gonna continue to be a really attractive vice, right?

Uh, what is the debate? Is there supposed to be someone showing up "OMG ODING ON BATH SALTS IZ AWEZOME!!!!" or something? What are we supposed to be discussing specifically in the pros and cons? Is there really a pro bath salt zombie face-eating position?

OMG ODING ON BATH SALTS IZ AWEZOME!!!!

Also, that whole "zombie apocalypse" thing is annoying. There's no way for it to spread, and these people aren't permanently psychotic. As I understand it, people go crazy on Bath Salts because it's very easy to OD on it. Most of them end up in cardiac arrest or just having the worst fucking trip of their life, and the few that do OD can do some crazy shit. Apparently, they're usually suicidal, not homicidal. The drug's still relatively new (although I remember seeing "cloud nine" in headshops at least six months ago) So people don't know everything that's in it yet. It's sometimes marketed as an alternative to cocaine, but's it's closer to meth, and it's effects are similar to PCP. It's illegal in most places now, so I suppose it's at least a tiny bit harder to get.

It's pretty scary, yeah. No one really knows much about it, and it seems to be pretty dangerous, but there's certainly no reason to get all hyped about o no zmombe apoplicypse!

I thought it was still conjecture that the face-eating guy was on bath salts. And I read that the heart/brain eating dude was on mushrooms.

Obviously this wasn't the calming lavender bath salt.

Now more seriously, I've seen pictures of the victim and I was both amazed and shocked what damage human teeth can do. It must have been horrible for the victim. For his own sake, I hope his brain will do him a favor and he won't remember anything from that attack.

methinks you got it a little backward there. the homeless man was the one who attacked the other. while suspiciously naked. /detailsiwillneverbeallowedtoforget

The homeless man was the one that got attacked.. The guy on bath salts' car broke down so he got out and started walking. The salts raised his body temperature so he started peeling off all his clothes. He came upon the homeless man and convinced him to take off his clothes too because it was hot. The guy then proceeded to attack the homeless man and eat his face. The salts gave him strength and more use of his jaw (his jaw was made stronger so he wanted to eat everything lol), therefore he gnawed on his face. The homeless guy wasn't able to fend him off because of his superstrength.

o_O the story i read mustve been wrong, then. hm.
but then, the story i read about it was much shorter and detail-omitting.

horrifying nonetheless, though.
...if you think youre having a bad day, just think; at least someone hasnt eaten my face off.

also, am i the only one getting annoyed at all this "zombie apocalypse" bullcrap? drugs make you do crazy things, how is this a surprise by now? mushrooms can make you believe youre hanging off the side of a cliff in your own kitchen, yet somehow when a couple people hallucinate into cannibalism its the friggin' APOCALYPSE? they were both on drugs (or in the case of the woman who ate her baby, psychosis). might i add: a "real" zombie apocalypse would mean these people would get right back up after theyre "killed" and keep trying to eat people.
why are people such melodramatic 'fraidy-sheep? -_-

*cough* I shouldn't have come here
But if the specific toxin in the bath salts somehow got into the water supply, then we'd have 'The Crazies' scenario.
If said toxin was also present in the saliva post consumption that it has the potential to cause secondary transfer to a victim.
The toxin would also have to be a stimulant, enough to keep neural pathways open and the body moving even after the person has lost too much blood etc to realistically still be moving.

Bath Salts are a drug that increases body temp, blood sugar, heart rate, etc.
It is also hallucinagentic, so that explains the drug induced pshycoltsis that comes with it. and most of these incidents were about the people tearing off their clothes, because their organs are literlly boiling inside their stomach, and their railed the powder instead of smoking it like you're supposed to do. snorting it causes it to "Stain" your nasal cavity and burn the isde of your nose/thoart/lungs, and then like biting into a spicy food, it burns. which causes your organs to boil from this spicy outbrust.

sorry if this thread was old, just wanted to share my input on this subject :)

I think there are other drugs that raise body temperature - cocaine/crack, methamphetamine, mdma. I remember watching Cops long ago. It seemed like every episode there was one naked guy running around in a crazed manner. Granted they never showed them eating someone's face off. In any event as far as I know the toxicology reports for Rudy Eugene aren't completed yet.

No, you are not. I've been annoyed at it since I first found out about the idea. Zombie apocalypse's are overused, pointless, impossible, and make horrible, horrible video games. And yet, every time I turn around there is yet another video game about a zombie apocalypse.

While I'm not a chemist, and couldn't give a proper description of bath salts, your list of its effects match what the Miami police said. Bath salts symptoms are similar to cocaine psychosis. It soulds like body temperature gets so high that the brain is.. changed significantly..
Also "legal" just a bit more info here. My home state banned most bath salts just before this MIami incident happened. A few other states have already banned bath salts. It seems Florida is now banning it, and I'd say the rest of the nation is hurrying to write legislation before we get more "zombies" .. One problem we had here is, the state police and attorneys said upon the first ban, a slightly altered form of bath salts appered, with claims it's still legal.. and the state must add more compounds to the list of banned substances to cover this. Apparently drugs are difficult to ban now.

Watch what you get under the counter at gas stations..
To the last few posters.. Yes, Zombies are overdone, and becoming passe. We're worn out on it. Also, my family members agreed that this guy in Miami is not a zombie. We laughed at the idea of "zombie survival pills" and "zombie stopper bullets" being sold in their apropriate stores. I pity the monster genre, because I think they're all worn out now. Maybe Bela Lugosi and Lon Cheney are right again.. time to stop.;

This is really creepy, and it might be enough to get really crazy people thinking the zombie apocolyps is coming. This story is just more of a reason not to use illegal drugs, especially with bathsalts

Rudy Eugene's system was found to have no traces of any drugs other than marijuana.

Thanks Rikachu .. The news of "no bath salts in his system" seriously surprises me. I have my doubts, but let's take that as true for a bit. Does it cast doubt on marijuana as a so-called "safe" drug? really was he stuffing his mouth full and .. however else you ingest the stuff? .. and for that kind of psychosis and violence, it doesn't match what I've heard of marijuana. We know homeless arent't as healthy as the rest of us.. But what else was going on in Rudy's head and body when he attacked that other man?

I really pity the other man. To have his face and body attacked in that way, it's frightening. i hope he gets some good donations and a change to live a normal life, look normal too.

I read that the "Miami Zombie" was discovered to not be on bath salts after the autopsy was done.
I also read of a mother eating her new born baby's brain, and some of its toes. Eesh.

In New Jersey, another case stood out. This time the incident did not involve the eating of flesh or brains, but was equally as horrific. The man stunned witnesses by stabbing himself up to 50 times, before ripping his own intestines out and throwing them at police. Despite his horrific injuries, the man still was difficult to subdue, and officers were forced to use pepper spray.

To me, that's probably the worst, lol.

"Bath Salts" aren't legal everywhere in the US. My state (Pennsylvania) outlawed it earlier in the year and it's illegal in several others.

An Atlanta man was arrested after stripping down to his underwear at a local driving range and threatening to eat people after ingesting bath salts, police said.
Witnesses said that Karl Laventure came out of the woods at the Atlanta Golf Center and began screaming about religion, rapper Tupac Shakur and cannibalism.
"Among other things, he was saying things like, ‘I'll eat you. I don't want to eat you but I will,'" Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Jake Smith, said.
Police said that when they arrived, Laventure – who had stripped down to his underwear – came right at them. Laventure would not respond to any commands and wiped pepper spray from his eyes, according to police. Authorities said it took four Taser hits to restrain and arrest him.
Paramedics arrived and gave Laventure medication that reportedly seemed to bring him out of his haze. Police said that Laventure admitted that earlier he had smoked a joint sprinkled with bath salts. Officials said that the medication apparently wore off and Laventure began lunging off the hospital bed at officers.
Smith said that Laventure was Tased an additional seven times before he was finally restrained.

Apparently in the "Miami Zombie" case of cannibalism, bath salts have not been entirely ruled out due to an inconclusive tox screen. They say tests are not sophisticated enough to test the drug, or something. I'm just typing it from memory, so could be partially wrong.

aaaand queue the parade of pot defenders.

i stand by my "needs moar time and research" conclusion. though i do find it funny an abstract sense that the minute after someone goes "pot never killed ANYONE!"...something like that comes along and happens. bahaha!

Regardless of what drugs were in his system, I'm guessing this man had some severe mental issues.

Whaaaaat? Homeless people often have severe undiagnosed mental or emotional issues? Pff yeah, droppin' bombs over here.

Meth, meth, wonderful meth.....

What? Meth 'n' marijuana and other shit causes cannibalism too. If folks want to illegalize bath salts, they need more research than a couple of cases of face-eating disorder.

Seriously? We have bath salts users in and out of detox and psych offices all the time. User testimony says "bath salts are ten times worse than marijuana" based on how high users get, and how intense the crash is when it lets down. This isn't a garden grown drug in a natural form. Bath salts are concentrated and entirely man made. They already are illegal in several places. the people who use this stuff don't like it.

But like they said.. let's cue the long line of drug defenders (not just marijuana).. can we move to the debate room?
