View Full Version : Is there a means to change townie wardrobe?

After a HDD crash, many of my Townies (whom I had customized using Simpe and other tools) lost their outfits because I lost the data. I'd like to fix their outfits as I reassemble the lost data, but I don't think there is a hack to change Townie wardrobe. Using the Insiminator does not permit the Townie to "buy" new clothes, just to switch among the outfits -- normal, outerwear, underwear, etc -- but not to get new outfits.

So if anyone knows a means whereby I can get new clothes for Townies, I'd like to know about it. If worst comes to worst, though, I guess I'll just have to move them in with regular sims and change their clothes the old-fashioned way.

You don't have to make them move in, just make them selectable with boolprop, then, either use MaryLou and Numenor's Coat Hook, or use the family you're playing and just buy them new clothes, though I don't know if this would work as well.

I use Christian Love's Gussy Up plug-in so I can buy and change their clothes on the fly. Unfortunately, I lost the link to the archive where a helpful MTS person stored all those hacks (I still have the zip file I downloaded, yay me); and in any case it can't change outerwear or jewelry.

I suggest you go to the WCIF forum and ask where you can find mods and hacks to change the clothes of townies. That should generate a number a links and helpful suggestions for alternate methods of doing this, which will help you figure out which one you want to use.

How did you do it the first time, if not with hacks?

First time, I created a bunch of sims in create-a-sim and replaced townies with them in Simpe. Had to create a new household, then use simpe to replace the townies with the new sims, then delete the new household. Tedious, but it worked okay, I was able to replace all the horrid townies with my own Sims. Unfortunately, my neighborhood backup was of a much later date than my download folder backup, so I have a bunch of Sims who were wearing clothes that got lost in the crash.

I was hoping for a way to do it on-the-fly. I'll search around some more, since the program you mention has gone bye-bye.

... delete the new household ... <wince> ... they just keep on coming.

Malthaussen - sorry, deleting households is a Bad Idea.

Found a working link to the file in this thread: http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=471289&goto=lastpost . You want one of the plug-in files - "plug in closet gussy up," I believe.

SusannaG: Thank you, that link worked.
Maxon: I've never had a problem with deleting households. I never move the replacement sims onto a lot, just leave them in the Sim bin so they will register with Simpe. When I'm done with them, I just remove them from the bin. But this Gussy Up utility sounds like it will be much more useful -- not to mention simple.:)

No, but it corrupts your hood nonetheless. You've been lucky. Anyway, the gussy up thing is better.

ChristianLov's Gussy Up mod seems to be the easiest method to date, but I'm surprised how few people seem to know about Pescado's ClothingTool, which I've been using to makeover townies for a long time. It changes clothes and also appearance.

From what I know of Gussy Up (which I have, but haven't experimented with yet), the advantage it has over the ClothingTool is that you don't even have to make sims selectable to use it.

Seeing as how Gussy Up is a bit hard to find these days, I like to promote the ClothingTool as a good alternative, should that be necessary. :)

Christianlov's clothing boutique rack is here at MTS: http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=284411 - That media fire link is a little scary - all it says is "Official".

Surely this is what is meant bye "Gussy Up" tool, right? It allows you to change the clothing and appearance of the service npc's, the townies, and the neighbors. It's great for themed hoods, especially.

The Gussy Up tool isn't an object, it's a pie menu plug-in. When you click on a sim, there's an option called Gussy Up/Buy Clothes. There's also Change Clothes (allowing you to see what they're already wearing), Plan Outfit, Change Appearance and some other options I forget. The only downside, other than it not doing Outerwear, is that if you try to change the clothes of a sim who is the only sim in a household, you can't, because it temporarily moves them in.

While we're talking about stuff to make over sims, I'd like to take the opportunity to mention Theo's Alternate Sim Surgery Plugin. (http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php?topic=3563.0) With regular sim surgery, you need to make sims in the game in order to copy their appearance, which leads to duplicate sims. Or people corrupting their hoods by deleting them, thank you for never fixing that game breaking bit of code, EAxis. With Theo's tool, you can copy the appearance of sims you make in Bodyshop, so you never have to make them playable in your game.

If you don't want to use mods or hacks, and you have OFB, you can have a Sim buy a clothing store and use the "Suggest Outfit For" on all the townies who come in. Malcolm Landgrab is a rich man in my neighborhood using this method.

You can also use a barbershop to change hairstyles the same way.

This is the one I use. I've used it for years, and I consider the rack one of my "must have" hacks and mods. Tosha Go is quite fashionable in my game thanks to the rack! It doesn't change the "official" uniforms of NPCs like the paper carrier unless you instruct him or her to change into everyday using Insim (at least it doesn't for mine), or use a like command with another hack or mod, but the post refers to townies, so that's a topic for another thread, I guess. :)

OR....you can just create clean neighborhood templates without townies whatsoever and you just make your own townies through the CAS....It works wonders for me.

One could argue that making townies in CAS takes longer than making over existing townies. Of course, making your own is certainly the way to go when you want them to look a certain way with regard to facial features. But not because it's necessarily faster or less of a pain, unless you're content with far fewer townies than what the game normally gives you.
