Install on Windows 8

I've read previous threads saying its incompatible. I understand this. Just a question though. Would it be possible to use vmware or a virtual desktop of windows xp install it on that then copy the installation files over to windows 8??

As I understand it, copied installation files don't work. You might have better luck just running it on the virtual desktop.
