So I'm trying to get the right amount of Service NPCs in my World, and this tutorial (http://modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Tutorials:Populating_CAW_Worlds#Adding_Service_NPCs) lists how many residents should be a certain service, and I was wondering how much of a population this was based on.

I wouldn't think it would matter how big the population was, since I am pretty sure service sims don't do anything at all for households that aren't active, and you can only have one active household.

Never heard of the "Science Geek" service sim before... what does he or she do, exactly? :O

The service household doesn't scale to the number of resident Sims in your neighbourhood, so those numbers are mostly universal-ish.

Science Geek is one of those Sims that turns up in a lab coat during the move in scenarios (the one about the meteorites?) Pretty pointless, but I love adding custom ones when I make service households for my worlds.

Also, recent EPs will have added more NPCs. I'll have to check that out and update for SHT. Probably DJs in the service household now?

Took me by surprise too when the science geek came into the game when using Twallan's Kama Simtra, as they are part of the service pool for "discreet rendezvous" (not that I would ever use such a service for my sims :heyhey: ).
