Has anyone ever tried to play with just a FEW of the rabbithole careers? As in, say.....only the military, city hall and crime? I know the city will get populated with sims in other careers and services....Any suggestions as to how I can make this a viable world would be appreciated.

I don't see why this would not work. I find that my townies tend to congregate into a few rabbit hole careers, especially those in the business building, while other rabbit holes are empty. If you find that your townies are having queuing problems you could place more than one copy of the rabbit holes you want to use while deleting the ones you do not want.

Hmm, I was under the impression that you won't get ANY sims in rabbithole careers where the rabbithole does not exist on the map. Never tried this though so I can't confirm it.

Definitely SHOULD work like that though ;)

Assuming that's correct, all you have to do is delete the rabbitholes (or refrain from adding them, if you're making a new world).

When I was testing in my build world, I only put a city hall (to access NRaas mods), ended up with a town full of politicians. Not pretty.

So, you were playing Washington, D.C..

You can access NRaas mods with a computer. You don't need city hall. I play the Nothing is Free challenge and so I start out with no rabbit holes at all and then gradually add them. The only problems with limiting the rabbit holes is that there are many Opportunities you will miss if you don't have them. You won't get the simbot or the ghost resurrection opportunity without the science lab for instance.

I think it would be cool to have different areas of a world like in The Hunger Games where each area is separate from the others (maybe little islands, maybe just by barriers) and they each have their own little industry.

I have had a few towns with no rabbit holes. The problem that arose was that every day about 90 sims would arrive and become photographers. They didn't actually move in, but were homeless. So as I had 'manage homeless' turned on, they were all kicked out every night. And then the next day 90 more would arrive. and so on. must have been a particularly beautiful world!

It is my intention to create a military town, with a whole lot of bars/clubs for the self employed stay-at-home-parents and a thriving crime syndicate. Possibly some politicians with a lean toward corruption.

I just don't want to bork the city, if I don't have to. Of course, being a military base/town, nukes sometimes go off all by themselves....

I didn't even think to put more than one rabbithole per career into the city. I have a CC City Hall that is also a military base....I could use my 'launch pad' for the more physical grunts, and the top brass-y nerds can work at the 'Pentagon' in the city.....MOST AWESOME!!! :mod:

That's MY thinking, as well.....but I've been a simmer MORE than long enough to know, NEVER assume! Hence, this post!! LOL

Definitely should work with most of the rabbitholes. Niua Simoa by kiwi_tea lacks a military base and there are no astronauts on that island and the career is not available in that town, and MasterController doesn't list it either as a career option. The reverse also seems to work fine: Grey Meadow by Quailhogs used to have two criminal hideouts and both had Sims working in it.
I'm not so sure about the City Hall, though, this seems to be a more crucial rabbithole building and quite some custom worlds that I've seen so far have at least a city hall hidden somewhere. And as the NRaas suite of mods uses the city hall, too, I guess that you'd need at least this one.

you would need City Hall, at least, if you wanted, say, to register as self-employed or something. Or to use Master Controller to it's full extent, like Babele44 said. I like very small custom world where space is at a premium, so sometimes I use the Portal-looking rabbitholes from Lunar Lakes, and place a bunch on one lot to save space. But if that wouldn't fit in with your decor, you could hide it with some bushes or trees, maybe. The rest aren't needed as such, and sims will only get jobs from the ones that are in your town.

Also, a world I'm using a lot right now, did something very clever. They made a park, added a basement to the lot, and put the criminal warehouse UNDERGOUND. so, if it was just a matter of not enough space, that might be an option.

Well, as kewpie noted earlier, all the interactions are also available via the Computer menu.

Strictly speaking one does not require City Hall, but it sure it handy while in Map View.

How funny....I JUST put your mods in my game, have relapsed into my addiction because of them and will now name the city hall, Twallan Town Center!

Thanks everyone!

Don't even need to do that... just need Jynx's rabbit hole doors/rugs: http://www.modthesims.info/d/435107
