View Full Version : HCDU freezes when I click scan.

I've searched for any help I could and I have not found any answer to this problem.

I downloaded HCDU (Hack Conflict Detection Utility) from simswardrobe.com. I have the file in the same folder with the SWsupport.dll. I double click on the icon, and a blank screen appears, and at the very bottom is a button that says scan. Whenever I click on scan, A window appears, and says it's "searching for hacks." As soon as it makes a little progress, I get an error message telling me it has stopped working.

This is driving me nuts.

I have a vista, I don't know why it would be doing this.

Any help is appreciated, or beatings if I posted this in the wrong forum.

Is it running as an Administrator? It might need Administrator access. Or it might be stumbling over a bad hack?

It is really preferred that you post at the site where you got it, but I'm not sure that simwardrobe is doing anything more than making sure his hosting bill is paid.

You might have to do the 50-50 method of finding bad CC just to use the HCDU. I must admit that I've never seen it crash before.

I tried that, and I noticed that after I split a few in half, it no longer freezes, but when I put them back, it freezes again.

There's your confirmation that it's a CC or hack issue. Next step is finding and removing the problem file(s). http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Finding_Problem_Custom_Content#The_50.25_Method

I'm not sure whether the HCDU is supported any more, but it would be very interesting to see the CC which manages to crash or freeze it; the HCDU has been amazingly stable. When you find the culprit, please post a link to the CC that causes the problem. Thanks!

I haven't been able to run HCDU for some time and I always did have troubles getting it to run, often requiring me to Ctrl Alt Delete on it. Never thought to try it on just half of my things. But back when I could get it to run it still often required me to start and get out of it three times or so before running.

Have you both got a lot of CC? I wonder whether the HCDU could be running into a memory issue?

Unfortunately, we don't have access to the HCDU source code. However, I'd still be interested if either of you found a specific piece of CC which is causing problems.

I have 12.5 GB which I know is a decent chunk. Seems like the more cc I accumulated the worse at running it got. Last time I got it to run it did toss up a few file names, but they didn't make much sense to me as they were things that seemed to be working fine. I should probably halve my downloads when my game isn’t on and see how it runs then.

I have less than even a gig of downloads, and it still freezes, I had to significantly decrease my downloads to finally get it to work. It took some trial and error, but I found what was conflicting with the hack I recently downloaded. It was another hack I really liked, but I had to compromise.

I couldn't find any CC that threw it off. Whenever I got it the downloads folder small enough, it would run fine, no matter which downloads I had in there.

That really seems to indicate that the HCDU is having problems with the size of your Downloads folder.

So maybe you could divide your downloads into groups that are about half the size that it likes, and then test each group against every other group. For example, dividing into 4 parts, and then testing 1+2, 1+3, 1+4, 2+3, 2+4, and 3+4. (You don't need to test the higher number against the lower number, because that match was already covered earlier.)

If you have scripted objects, you can see conflicts between them without having either of them broken. There are things to make wolves more common, and things to keep wolves off a lot. You might have a good reason to have both in your game. You would not have both on the same lot, so each would work as intended. But they both modify the chance of a wolf appearing, so they would show a conflict.
