I have an asus k53sv. Win7Ultimate. IntelCorei7 2.2ghz. 6gb ram ddr3. 700gb hard drive. geforce 540m 1gb.

Obviously the notebook is not the problem.

I have a lot of custom content (3gb), I do not have the intention to delete any of it. These files are very organized, compiled in single packages of 200mb, with the s3pe. Previously and after, I checked with the dashboard, and there are not problems, duplicates or corrupted files.

But when I load the sims 3, everything goes fine, quickly and smooth. I go to the cas, and the same, every file is loaded almost instantly without any warning of a problem.

But suddenly the screen freezes.

This is not the first time that I have this issue (10 time or more, after install, reinstall, uninstall, This is my third time that I install the game, with the proper order, updates, etc.). Sometime the error appears after my using of the cas, but now (a few minutes ago) I was doing "nothing", I just put a name for my character and the screen freezes.

I'm sure that it is not a driver issue, I'm very carefully with that. And honestly it is hard to believe that a notebook of 800 us dolars and the components are the responsible for this.

Probably a compatibility between the graphic card with the sims or something like that.

If you have any suggestion (without eliminating the custom content) it will be welcomed.

For me is not a big deal if I can't play this game, but it is just hard to believe that I can play "everything" except this damn thing.

PD: I had consider to play with less cc, but that is simply not the point of the game. Without the cc, is just a bored and barely simulator of something.

Sims 3 - Game Problems
Please go through this FAQ and follow the instructions, doing each step in order and not skipping anything:

Game Help:Sims 3 Game Problem
Most issues with the game can be resolved by following those steps.

You don't have to play without CC, but testing with a fresh set of user files will at least tell us if the CC is the cause of the problem. Follow the Game Problem guide to determine this, and let us know of the outcome.

https://help.ea.com/article/latest-nvidia-drivers-crashing-the-sims-3

apparently there are problems of incompatibility between modern nvidia video cards and the game.

https://help.ea.com/article/sims-3-crash-freeze-troubleshooting-after-patch-1-33

I tried in windowed mode and the result is the same... crashs, black screen, freeze.

Now I am downloading the latest driver for my video card (the beta driver 304.79)

If it work I will report here my results.

In installed the last driver for my video card and nothing.

But I realize something, running in windows mode and simultaneously with the window task manager I realize that the game always stop when it reach 3.800.000k of memory.

So I went to C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Game\Bin and I edited "defaults.ini"

Trusting in my laptops capabilities, I add another zero to the limits (i.e. DBCacheMaxSizeMB = 20000)

I did the same with "sims3.ini"

And now apparently everything is fine.

Once again, I will report any change, but if this solutions works, it is not recommended for weak laptops/pcs.

Ok the performance is better, but in the end the problem appears once again.

Playing the game in windowed mode allowed me to saw in the task manager that the game consume 60% of my physical memory (plus the other 30% used by other programs).

Final solution to correct this issue:

*s3pe/ merge of packages
*dashboard --> repair and detect corrupted packages
*game setting according to the hardware capabilities
* and finally MORE RAM.

I am reporting all of this, because I read a lot on internet about the same issue and nobody gives an useful tip (like any computer technician says when you detect a problem, ..... " mmmmm, format the computer"). Have you tried removing cc???? (so smart answer, I never thought that, mmmm)

Incredible that this game can consume 6 gb of ram ddr3 1600hz. This doesn't happen with other modern games, because they are better in their design and obviously, for the lack of so much custom content.

I will buy an incredible amount of ram for my laptop, because I can afford it and I do not tolerate that this thing can beat this powerful device.

Hey, I had the same problems. I created a thread, here is the link. http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=484309
Read the last post of mine, I was able to finally solve my problems myself. Try the steps that I tried, it can't hurt an already broken game! Good luck.
