With no expansions, The Sims 3 still has the "stuttering" issue that is similar to tearing but isn't.

With every expansion, The Sims 3 has this odd lagging issue.

What happens is, when I move around looking at the houses next to mine, the game will literally pause for a split second, during which the FPS will go down to the teens (12-18 FPS) and then somewhat recover.

This makes the game unplayable.
Above that, I am only getting around 30-40 FPS @1080p with max settings on GTX 280 SLi.

I remember being able to run the game at the same resolution on an old 9600 GSO, which if you don't know is about 1/8 as powerful.. of course, that was with no expansions.

So, is there any way to fix this? I simply can't play the game as it is.. :(

Do you have any packages/mods installed?

Yeah, one or two. Could that cause the FPS drop?

Hmm not if its one or two, have you checked to make sure your computer specs meet the requirements?

I also had this problem a while back, but for me, it was because I had a lot of mods so I needed to compress them.

No, like I said, my specs are far higher than necessary:
Q8400 @ 3.2Ghz
4GB RAM
GTX 280 SLi

Only thing I don't have is an SSD.

But while that would increase loading times and perhaps frames (slightly), I don't think it would outright fix this annoying issue.

Yeah maybe, try play a new game and see if that works? maybe theres just some weird glitch going on with you current game.

Sorry I couldn't be of much help!

Do you have Twallan's NRaas Story Progression mod? It seems to be causing lag with a few people.

1: Game is not multi core capabel, so it doesn't matter if you have an multicore cpu.
2: 4GB in RAM, game can easily eat up that, i have 8GB and game usually use around 2-3GB when i play.
3: The GTX 280 SLI is quite power hungry:

Maximum Graphics Card Power: 236 W
Minimum System Power Requirement: 550W
If one calculate that, it can use about 20A
So do you have a PSU that deliver atleast that on the +12V line and i mean one that can deliver that constantly.
If not the card will be under powered and perform badly.

Also even if game is old it's still more demanding then alot of newer games.
