View Full Version : Recording The Sims 3 in Fraps

Hello everyone! I apologize if this is in the wrong forum, this place confuses me to bits! At least the forum does. Anyways, I was playing around with the in-game recorder and was not satisfied after hours and hours of work, testing, and research.
I went ahead and purchased Fraps to record my series/machinima. There's only one problem (well, small problem). In my game, everything is smooth (no jagged edges on any objects whatsoever). However, when I record Fraps, I look back at the video and things like hairstyles have jagged edges on the sides.
I was wondering if this was an issue with The Sims 3, or an issue with Fraps. When I am in the game, with all settings maxed out, I have no troubles playing, and everything looks amazing. When I record with Fraps, some of the smoothness is lost and there are jagged edges. The video itself is fine, just issues with the objects that's all.
If you need me to dig out my system specifications, I suppose I am willing to. But see if you can offer me any advice before asking for my specs.
Thanks everyone! (And could you move this if it's in the wrong spot)

Open fraps, go to the "Movies" tab, and screenshot your settings. Have you tried MSI Afterburner? It's a similar program to FRAPS that can also record video. It's free and I actually find it better than FRAPS. Download it and give it a whirl to see if you have the same problem with it.

I have taken the picture. (It's under the spoiler) And, I'd rather use Fraps, as it runs just fine. I guess I am done going through many programs to get desired results, at least at this point in time (maybe I will give it a whirl soon if I don't find a solution).

Not sure what's wrong, settings look good. Try Using a lower fps recording or force lossless RGB capture.

There are various ways to navigate the site
- from the dropdown menu (I clicked on everything when I first joined, just to see what's what and what's where)
- the Site Map (under Site menu), that list the sections most of our members visit. It has a link to ALL subforums in there, too (similar to all other forums' layout), if you care to venture on the less-trodden paths with a more familiar interface.
Which means you may not have been aware of our Movies/Machinima section and the Tutorial/Tips subforum under that. Go to http://my.modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=591
Have you tried to use the tips on copying the Sims3.ini file to the last addon's relative path? And, these particular threads may help:
- http://my.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=470893
- http://my.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=481865

Oh, and to be helping with restrictions! Already informed up front on what direction to take when troubleshooting (and limiting possibilities from the outset)...nice challenge! Hope I passed. :)

Well thanks for the help! I suppose you don't use the Fraps program yourself, but I will be taking this thread to this very helpful forum at which I really needed.

Yep, I don't use Fraps. I forgot why exactly but I prefer another. When I do video-captures, that is. Usually the in-game feature is sufficient, with the tips from those threads I linked. For anything beyond what it can do, I use Camtasia.
Good luck for your Machinima Projects!
