Editing sims creates double, also thumbnail oddities

How can I edit my sims and have them save as the same file? There doesn't seem to be a regular save option, only "save sim to bin", and that creates a second file which doesn't help me at all.

What had happened, if it matters, is that I lost some custom stuff and had to reload it, and when I tried to put it back on my sims, it ended up creating doubles rather than going on the regular sims.

Also, the thumbnails of the sims that display on the side (or at the bottom when the sim is the active one), they display with their custom content even when the sims themselves don't. I'm not sure what that means, but in some cases the content doesn't show up in CAS mode despite being on the thumbnail, so does that mean it's in the game but somehow inaccessable?

Making a "copy" of the sim is how it works when you save the same sim more then ones using "save to bin" and i'm afraid that won't change, if it's any help the "latest" is always the one with the highest number (unless you delete the "orginal" one then it won't have any number after it) in the SavedSims folder in (my) documents/The Sims 3, so if you exit game you can delete any other in there to remove the "copies".

For the diffrence on "thumbnail sim" and the actual sim, is due to that game can't find the custom items that is needed to make the sim look like in the pic, it might help to clear the cache Game Help:Sims 3 Delete Cache Files (http://linna.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Sims_3_Delete_Cache_Files) if it doesn't change on refitting & resaving the sim.

So I have to edit my sims, exit the entire game, delete all previous copies, and restart my game?

This wouldn't be so annoying a process if my game didn't take about ten minutes to start up (is that normal too?). Is there anything quicker?

You can always try to delete then without exiting game if you leave CAS, though since game load them (and use?) it might freak out.
As a tip try this Builder's Island - DIY (http://linna.modthesims.info/download.php?t=419136) it's made for being able to quickly getting into game when building.
