View Full Version : Does it matter which icon I click to start the game?

I've searched google but am unable to find anything. I'm wondering if it makes a difference whether I click on the base game icon to launch the game, or the pets icon, or WA, etc.

Thanks!

I know, it's a bit weird. Use the base one.

What is the reason for that?

I always click the latest one, but I don't think it makes any difference. Whichever icon you click, the same launcher will open and the same game will start.

If you are starting from the launcher, I doubt it matters.

I prefer the base game icon in my desktop so that's what I use.

I believe the "correct" answer, if you're starting the game from the .exe file, and not the launcher, is to use a shortcut to the TS3W.exe found in the base-game game/bin folder in Windows. That will consistently work regardless of any additional EPs/SPs you have.

Hmm..I have a macbook pro, is there something similar for my operating system? I usually launch from the Pets icon (which is the latest one i have installed) with no problems, and I just tried launching it from the base game icon and it crashed.

Then I think you have your answer ;)

Don't know if there's a way to bypass the launcher on the Mac, you might try the OSX forum under Help though: http://www.modthesims.info/forumdisplay.php?f=443

For some reason, TS3W.exe throws an error message when I try to start the game from there, so I use the TS3EP05.exe (since I don't have SHT).

I use basegame icon, but only because I don't use the launcher to start the game. I use the TS3W.exe file inside the Game/Bin of the Base game's folder

Didn't that change at some point? I used to use the .exe file in the latest exp pack folder, but suddenly that didn't work anymore? I may remember wrong though.

Same question for me.. well i click on different icons that I have to launch the game, seem to work just fine . Is there like a difference if you use base sims 3 game / main sims 3 EP icon?

Due to the way EA decided to patch the game after 1.22, there is really no difference anymore.

I use the FPS limiter icon. It's tedious like everything Windows so I keep the latest EP icon on my desktop too, just for illusion.

I just use the icon of the latest EP I have installed. Force of habit, I suppose. *shrug*

Which icon or shortcut doesn't matter if you have updated to 1.22 and above (anything after Generations release), all roads lead to the TS3W.exe file in base game's \Bin path. But the disc in the drive (if not a digital download) has to be for the last-released addon that you've installed.

Not the last time I checked.

Not having your disc drive needlessly checking one crappy file so you can use it to play music CDs instead? Priceless.

From the Site Rules:
No-CD Cracks - Even if you own the original game, no-cd cracks are notorious for viruses and causing game problems. Because that, and their association with piracy, we do not support any discussion of using no-cd cracks here. Don't ask for them, don't provide help if someone asks, don't talk about them.AFAIK, MTS is totally separate from nraas.wikispaces. Or, do you know something I don't? ;)

I know that mod is not a crack per se, but any mention of such always have people asking for where to locate and how to use and we're already violating the "No discussion" anyway.
